This shit has been playing on every channel for the past week.
And all these places are starting at midnight? Bad enough the Christmas decorations were up before Halloween. |

I know this holiday commemorates exploitation of Native Americans by a cultist group of English separatists, but it's a grand excuse to be with those we love and cherish and eat a glorious carb-overloaded meal.
I hope all of you who hold this holiday dear are among your family and friends and have a wonderful day. Though I'm not where I wish I could be, I feel I'm where I should be: mashing potatoes at my parents' house. Happy Thanksgiving! |

Holy crap, nice picture, Thex.
That's not what I pictured for some reason, but hey good to know what you look like. |

Glad to hear everyone's Thanksgiving went well, mostly. I just had my first leftover sandwich of the week. Sadly, we don't have much turkey left.
Originally posted by Katana Tell me about it. Brandon and I went out for a hike and when we got back there was some drama about my parents not being able to find six of their silver spoons. Bad enough that we ended up starting dinner an hour late because we were waiting for my uncle and his wife. It was the first Thanksgiving I've had with my parents in 7 years. Usually we spend it in Arizona with Brandon's grandmother and other family. Afterwards, his mother, Brandon, and I go hiking in the mountains to burn off the excess. Had to do it in L.A. this year. So here's the Griffith Observatory and downtown L.A. at sunset on our way up Dante's View: |

Here's a handful of pictures from my trip a couple weeks ago. We took over 4,000 pictures, but Flickr would only allow me to put up 75 of them for this month.
There's more on Facebook, but since they're trying to make more room on their site these days, the pictures end up coming up as lower quality compressed images with a lot of distortion. What appears in the pictures there are Egypt, Israel, the Palestinian territories on the West Bank (they're surrounded by a graffiti-covered wall, much like the Berlin Wall), Greece (Rhodes), Turkey, and Greece again (Gythion and parts of Mani), and Stromboli (a constantly erupting volcano island). She's all right, from what I've been hearing. She had heart surgery last week, after she and Brandon's mom came out to see the baby Michelle just had.
Since we were so bummed about not heading out there for Thanksgiving this year, we might end up visiting right after Christmas. And, man, you've got balls saying things like that. |

So this woman in L.A. pepper sprayed a crowd of people on her way into Wal-Mart for the Black Friday sale. Apparently she was after an Xbox marked 50% off, and 20 people needed to be treated.
Seriously, fuck Black Friday. Too many idiots in the German market today. Macy's is also blacklisted for me, alongside that Rebecca Black crap post above: (Last edited by Rogue on 11-25-11 07:04 PM) |

So the pepper spray lady turned herself in, but the police let her go. I hope some of the victims choose to press charges. This behavior should not become a precedent with more people doing it because they figure they can get away with it.
Can't believe how many fights have been making the news. People are getting into cat fights over TOWELS. Oh, for fuck's sake. Sorry to hear about your work schedule, Alex, but glad to hear sales are up. |

In all honesty, I've never had a problem with Twilight itself. Sure, the fanbase was annoying, but I've always felt people are entitled to their fandoms and never really passed judgement on those who like it (well, except for the occasional fan who's really lost it that I have to deal with in person... thank you, Comic-Con for that privilege).
Anyway, I've never read the books, seen the films, or really discussed it all at length, but this girl apparently has: It's kind of amazing how objectionable a book designed for teenage girls has become, but if its readers are coming away with this poisoned idea of love, this does need to be addressed. It's been a shame seeing the 50-somethings into this (or Twi-Moms as they're called), but then again I'm sure they're well-read in the rape fantasies that fill romance novels these days. Seriously, though, asking a 17-year-old boy to sign your thong? |

Originally posted by Elara 1. If you would like a demonstration, wave a dollar bill around in front of them and see who kills the other one racing to you to snatch it out of your hand. Beth has (or at least had) all of Lola's money. And now it's all been spent. When Evelyn (SF aunt) came down to visit, she was gathering things in the house to mail up to her clan in the Bay Area. They pretty much strong-armed Lola into selling her house, which has been on the market for a few months now, and Beth ransacked it for whatever she could get her hands on, even bringing in her friend to take what she wanted. Said friend ACTUALLY told me, not realizing who I was, "Just take anything you can get. You can always sell it later." Every time Beth went over there, she loaded up her van with anything that wasn't nailed down, no matter who it was promised to or what it meant to someone else (she ALMOST stole my mother's sewing machine, which Mom had loaned to Lola to use over the years), and you know where most of it is? Rotting on her driveway. Literally. She doesn't care about any of the stuff, just so long as no one else can have it. Whenever I was over there as Beth started "clearing the house," Lola would beg me to take things and keep them safe and at the same time, whenever she had a lucid moment, she would cry and sob about how she had nothing left and she doesn't know what she's going to do. And in the mean time, Beth's spent all of Lola's money, and kept Lola in complete and utter squalor -- a room that's just her bed, in my aunt's house where there are no less than 10 chihuahuas (my aunt has dozens) running around shitting and pissing everywhere and it's not getting cleaned up and everything cluttered and dusty and you can barely navigate through the house. This is HER MOTHER. A few weeks back, I had to to take Lola to get her nails done. There was so much fungus under her nails and Beth NEVER bathes her. My mom is the only one who does. Whole weeks would pass before Lola was allowed to come over. She was supposed to come every weekend (and I'm supposed to get paid for watching her), but Beth would make it so she only came once a month, if at all. And Evelyn hasn't done anything in the way of trying to care for her mother. She's up in the Bay Area with her family and the only news that we hear from her is her fuming about Beth taking the money. 2. I'm sitting with Lola in the dining room right now, and she keeps begging to know when Brandon is going to drive her up to my aunt's house (where she may never return to again). She keeps giving reasons about how today would be best because Mom would be working tomorrow and that my uncle is sick (I have no idea where this info comes from). I've literally had to flat out say, "Beth doesn't want you to come." With how heartbroken she looks, it's among the worst things I've ever said in my life, but at the same time it's like she forgot it right away because she keeps going, "Brandon will take me now?" This morning she screamed at me to come down stairs because someone was in the house while my parents were at church. A few nights ago she got up at 2 in the morning and started banging on my parents' bedroom door with her cane, shouting that the house was on fire. (Last edited by Rogue on 11-27-11 03:14 PM) |

On the way into Alexandria's port, there are just random shipwrecks all over the place. It was really eerie at the time since it was early morning and you'd just see these shipwrecks emerge from the fog.
When you visit Giza, watch out for all the people trying to sell you something or get you on a camel (there are a few pics of me and Brandon on camels on Facebook). They're on you like flies, and some of them are pick-pockets. We seriously didn't have a moment alone there with someone ALWAYS on us for one reason or another. The camel guys were the worst. Some tourists got on them after they were told it was free, but once up there were told to give over more and more money or else they couldn't get off. We kept hearing horror stories of people paying $50, sometimes all the way to $80. We got away with paying $7 and walking away. |

I gave blood once while attending City. I was doing a story about a blood drive at PCC and for some reason decided to try donating.
They couldn't figure out why my information that was on file was incorrect (saying I was a year older than I was). I had tried to give blood in high school, when the Red Cross was desperate for blood after 9/11, so I lied about my age to try to donate. I ended up not being able to give, since they test your blood first and I came up anemic (common for teenage girls). If you were tasked with buying books for a child reading at the 8th grade level, what would you get them? (I had to do this last night since my mom had to get something for one of those donation trees at her church. I spent WAAAAAY too long at Barnes & Noble debating what to get) (Last edited by Rogue on 11-29-11 11:09 PM) |

Haven't gotten anything yet, except for picking up books at Barnes & Noble to fulfill my mom's donation to the her church.
She pulled one of those ornaments off the tree, that signifies the wish of a needy child whose parents can't afford to get them anything, and the kid wanted books at the 8th grade reading level. She said she couldn't figure out what that meant, so the boyfriend and I spent two hours (because I'm that much of a lame ass) walking around the store debating what to get and ended up getting a leather bound copy of Treasure Island and paperback of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. |

Went by the library yesterday and noticed they finally had the latest graphic novels for the Usagi Yojimbo series, so I've been reading Volumes 22-24. Stan Sakai is the man.

I sure hope so. Didn't want to get anything too cliche, like Harry Potter or Twilight.

None that I know of, and I feel rather fortunate about it.
What would be a deal-breaker in a relationship (lying, cheating, drugs, etc)? |

I LOVE the Wayback Machine.
When that one guy fucked over all those local metal bands claiming he was putting together an Ozzfest-like show in the desert and deleted his website, I pulled up the Wayback Machine, found his deleted website and pulled up the contact info for the guy, took screen caps, and sent them off to what people might be interested. |

Hehe, yeah, I reek of old age.
Happy birthday, Elara! Well, for no reason at all, here's some glam metal: |

Definitely. Same could be said of non-fat milk. It's pretty much white water, but hey, makes no difference when you have it with cereal.
