In what sense?

We've got three decent films and three crappy ones, a holiday special where everyone's coked out of their minds (or maybe just Carrie Fisher?), and a ton of published fanfiction that people are building their fandom on.

This coming from someone who's been to one of the Star Wars Celebrations and never been to a Trek con.

Oh my FUCKING god.

So it just opened in the UK (in second place, yay!), but was beaten out by "Grown Ups."

What the FUCK!?

Maybe I have too much faith in niche movies? I mean, it was directed by Edgar Wright. That's gotta count for something on the other side of the pond.

It made £1.6M this past weekend. "The Expendables," which has been out for a week there, came in third.

Scott Pilgrim didn't even place this past weekend.

People really don't know what they're missing out on.

Sorry, I think I came off too bitchy in that post. It's been a long day and my feet hurt. Waaaah!!!

Really, I miss all the action/adventure/sci-fi/fantasy shows we used to have throughout the '90s.

My list of favorite shows went Hercules, Xena, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Adventures of Sinbad, Brisco County Junior, Lost World, Star Trek: Voyager, it goes on and on.

Then they had all kinds of other stuff: Beast Master, Mortal Kombat, Queen of Swords, Conan the Barbarian, Mutant X, Earth Final Conflict.. shit. There was SO much more. Cheesy effects and all.

*Flips through the shredding/spamming insanity*

Heh, guess I missed out what with being in class all day and then going on a date that night.

Then tonight, in class 'til 9:30.

I feel like my head is going to explode with all the course work and reading. So much to absorb and think about.

Thankfully, it's only graphic novel class tomorrow. Trying to think of the story behind this French surrealist collage book is also kinda tough.

One Boob is accused of killing the other.

Jesus Christ.

It's comedy gold, but for the fact that someone died.

Fuck how everyone's in such a hurry to grow up and get life over with. I love keeping everything in the blissful future. While I'm excited to be graduating soon, I'm happy to be taking classes now (for the most part... ugh, comm). I'm happy to be in a long term relationship and keeping marriage and kids out of my present. I'm happily living in anticipation of awesome things to come. I'm unbelievably confused as to why, even though I'm in a university, there are constantly young women who just go on about getting married, "and now that I've got that over with, I can..." fill in the blank. Now that you've got that over with? And then when you've got life over with you can comfortably die.

Now further down this avenue, fuck the insistence on being sad. I have this friend that I feel I'm constantly in the process of trying to cheer up. She called me last week before class demanding I come over because she was worried her boyfriend was about to dump her. While I held her while she cried for an hour about this guy, she occasionally said things like, "I want my heart to die," "I want them to take out of the part of my brain that had feelings so I won't be hurt any more," "I don't deserve love," and so on.

She's been with this guy a year and only really sees him every other weekend. In fact, between fits of declaring she was going to kill herself, she sometimes went on to say that she's been thinking about dumping him anyway and that she thinks he's an asshole. Every single time I attempted to be reassuring asking if it's really so bad that he's breaking up then or that you've got to take the bad with the good, she just reverted to being more upset and saying the above statements again. It was like she refused to be cheered up and just wanted me to dote on her while she cried.

When the boyfriend finally showed up, I ended up sitting in her room while the awkward conversation occurred. As it turned out, she was being paranoid and they didn't break up. Then I was stuck with the greater awkwardness of her bringing him to her room to talk to me and my boyfriend (who was also trying to cheer the friend up).

I really don't blame the friend, as she's bipolar and her emotions are like a light switch. I've taken her to things that she'll suddenly cry through.

But I feel that insisting on being sad is becoming a running theme throughout the world, at least in America. Perhaps keeping you sad makes you buy things. I dunno. Maybe people feel they just need to be sad for a period. I can completely understand it with mourning. But I mean in almost everyday life.

I dunno. Maybe I'm crazy.

At least in this case, there is no concern about a leak as the rig wasn't pulling up oil.

What are your thoughts on off-shore drilling? How about your thoughts on how the last rig explosion, and consequent leak, was handled?

Rescue efforts under way after oil rig explosion in Gulf

[Posted at 11:53 a.m.] U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough tells CNN that 12 people from the rig are in the water immersion suits as they await rescue.

Colclough told CNN there are reports the rig is still on fire.

"We don't know what caused the rig to catch on fire," he told CNN, noting the incident is under investigation.

Asked about concerns regarding oil leaks or pollution, Colclough said "there are reports the rig was not actively producing any product, so we don't know if there's any risk of pollution."

[Posted at 11:43 a.m.] U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough tells CNN that all 13 workers involved in the rig explosion are accounted for, but one person is injured.

Coast Choppers are on the way to the site 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay.

[Posted at 11:33 a.m.] An oil rig has exploded 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, with 12 people overboard and one missing, the Coast Guard said Thursday morning.

Rescue attempts are under way for at least 12 people, Coast Guard spokesman John Edwards told CNN. 13 people were on board the rig total, Edwards said, noting 12 have been accounted for, but one person was missing.

The accident took place 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana on the Vermilion Oil rig 380, which is owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy.

The Coast Guard has multiple helicopters, an airplane and several Coast Guard cutters en route. It's unknown if there are any injuries.

I agree it's unfair for you, but what I think they're trying to do is form a bond with the Iraqis by playing in their court for a while, eating (or not eating in this case) their food, observing their rituals, and trying to gain their respect.

Many think Americans just rush into other countries and then try to make them conform to our ideals. You constantly see the stereotype played up in movies -- whenever an American tries to converse with someone in another country they shout loudly and slowly in English. Or they commit sacrilege in sacred places.

It seems whoever is commanding you to follow their customs is trying to gain the Iraqis' trust and prevent them from thinking of Americans as uncultured brutes.

I mean, Muslims derive from Christianity, which is derived from Judaism. It's a shame that these three often don't get along in a world setting.

Tables fixed. Something in Bitmap's post before True's was setting it off.

EDIT: Weird. So my post went haywire too. I deleted Valhalla's layout above and it's back to normal.

Interesting. I hit edit my profile and it didn't have either checked for enabling or disabling headers and signatures. I checked enable and not everything's fine.

The issues with the broken tables in some threads disappeared for me.

This is so disgusting to hear, I'm not going to click on anything regarding it.

I'm sorry, I know people used to drown cats because it was "supposedly" the most humane way to kill them at the time, but that doesn't mean I want to hear about it, watch a video regarding killing animals to put them out of their so-called misery.

Things are finally starting to fall into place regarding my graduating in the spring. I have the minimum number of units to walk at the ceremony. I'm taking 15 units now, and I just need 9 next semester.

I finally got the Titan Degree Audit people to look over my case and update my transcript to reflect what I've taken so I don't have to sweat some of my GEs not showing up anymore.

The American studies department, being a totally kick-ass chunk of the college of humanities if I do say so myself, also input some classes into their section of my TDA, double-counting comm classes and such, in order to help me graduate right away.

And, woot, no school on Monday.

It seems small, but I'm happy that I finally got my desk out of my room and that, after measuring, Brandon's desk should be able to fit in this alcove in one of the corners.

Next up is taking the dresser out, and then rearranging the room. I hate having so much furniture.

That letter was awful. I felt like I was stuck reading notes made by people I knew in middle school. God, she probably was that.

But, hah! The "Family Matters" theme song.
