Further coverage of Avatar-induced depression:
Now admittedly, I've kinda gone "Awww... sucks we don't live on Middle Earth or have superpowers" and I have gotten a bit bummed that politics and many other things don't work out like in the movies, but I've never seen something and went, "Damn, my life has no meaning now." Sort of reminds me of the my American studies professor saying one of his students dumped her boyfriend because she realized she could never have the deep relationship Edward and Bella have in the Twilight franchise. Yeah, I still haven't seen it. I probably will eventually. I'd heard the "hair rape" thing from watching the video.

Hey, thanks again for all the birthday wishes.
Well, my sugar daddy's not as rich as yours, Shuyin. No garish trips to anywhere cross country for us. We went hiking/rock climbing then had Cajun/Creole for dinner with my parents on my birthday. The next day we went exploring around L.A. Went to the Coroner's office, this temple that was straight out of National Geographic, wandered through downtown just looking at old buildings and watched people living. Lunch at this hipster place. Friends took us out for dinner in Little India, then bowling, then yogurt in the middle of the night. It's been an odd few days. A couple days ago, I interviewed this professor from my university who has this rare, debilitating and fatal illness that's made her blind in one eye and making it harder to walk on her own. She climbs mountains and scuba dives and ballroom dances with her husband. She's getting ready to climb Everest in June before the disease fully takes hold. I still have to write the story. And another one that's going to be a first-person narrative about the time Brandon and I had to be saved during a hike. It's almost been one of those focusing on mortality birthdays. Unintentionally. I'm not trying to be deep or morbid or anything like that. Well, gotta write those stories. Then it's off to fag-hagging with Stitch around San Francisco. EDIT: Heh, forgot to mention that Brandon and I had gone drinking with friends the night before my birthday and when it hit midnight, Brandon told them all and we all ended up taking turns singing karaoke to a crowded bar. Brandon and I CLEARED the people standing around singing Metallica's cover of "Whiskey in the Jar." Kinda crazy. A few people had too much to drink. (Last edited by Rogue on 01-18-10 04:15 AM) |

Well, a fag hag is a chick who hangs around gay men. Fag-hagging's pretty much just hanging out with a gay man, painting the town, talking about our feelings, having corndog eating competitions, and so on. :-P
Odd thing about it. One of the columnists at the paper a couple months ago wrote that we shouldn't be called fag hags any more, but rather fruit flies. Well, what can one expect when his column is seriously entitled "That's So Gay!" |

The columnist's reasoning for changing the word to fruit fly was actually kinda sweet. He said he'd rather not call the strong, beautiful women of his life hags, so he created this term so it wouldn't be offensive to them.
Honestly, I prefer fag hag. I don't consider it an insult at all, even in dissecting the phrase. When Stitch and I ran away to Northern California for a while and crashed at my aunt's house she called my mom concerned saying I'm a fag hag and she should be worried. My mom thought that was funny. |

I've got two stories I should have turned in today, but I keep putting it off.
My grandmother is staying over right now because she's saying she's hearing voices. |

If only that really was a prehistoric ground sloth spraying Beluga cavier on a genuine Picasso.
In all honesty, not many people in L.A. even like Leno. The city's mostly behind Conan. A few days ago, there was a huge "I'm with Coco!" rally in the rain outside of NBC Universal (outside of Universal Studios Hollywood) and he came out to greet them and talk with them. |

Keith Olber man comments on the Supreme Court case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission which was decided a few days ago. The case focused mostly around free speech, then centered around corporate spending.
It appears now that SCOTUS decided that corporations can spend AS MUCH AS THEY WANT in terms of giving to politicians for their campaigns. Though Olberman's been known to exaggerate and this commentary is somewhat over-the-top, he does paint a pretty dreary future of the world further controlled by corporations. I could see a lot of this happening. Hopefully much of it can be prevented. |

Here's the new trailer for the A-Team movie.
I'm probably going to see it in the cheap theaters. I was a huge A-Team fan when I was a little kid. I actually was looking up the show's intro on YouTube because I had this weird dream that I was the female member of the A-Team (there obviously is no female member) and that Face and I were into each other. Weird, but I liked it. No one could really duplicate the original team, though. No one. |

I'm really having my doubts about Roberts' court. This is the same group, under his being a chief justice, that said that the statute of limitations for suing (and winning) in a pay discrimination case is 180 days from the very first pay check, which goes against the previous precedent of 180 from finding out that you're being paid less.
Thankfully in that case Congress immediately pushed legislation which Obama signed last January for fair pay essentially vetoing SCOTUS' decision. If only there was a vote of no confidence for justices. EDIT: Fixing a typo. (Last edited by Rogue on 01-25-10 09:45 PM) |

Well, the issue with Leno's show was that it was taking up the 10-11 p.m. prime time slot Monday-Friday.
This pretty much killed NBC's safe harbor time which made it impossible to air shows like Southland (which they spent MANY, MANY a pretty penny advertising) due to their being too adult to show before 10 p.m., when safe harbor starts. By not allowing for multiple dramas to take up that time, it was also killing the studios who put together those shows for the networks. Leno HAD to be pushed back to after the news which would mean pushing Conan back and putting it all back where it was, except with their shows having different names. To be honest, the best route to go would have been to cancel Jimmy Fallon and put Leno in that spot and to leave the Tonight Show where it was. Is Carson Daly's Last Call even on any more? |

BUMP for being sort of relevant ...
Yep, comic blogs aren't always right. Should have figured when the url came up as "manip." So there's a few blogs out there saying this is Ryan Reynolds. But I guess to refresh the topic, what are your thoughts of him playing both Deadpool (Marvel) and Green Lantern (DC)? (Last edited by Rogue on 01-26-10 12:12 PM) |

Winter break went REALLY fast. |

Grandma's out of the hospital. They're moving her in with my aunt and selling her house.
Just got back from seeing "Shinjuku Incident." Pretty dark for a Jackie Chan movie. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-15-10 07:44 PM) |

Now... who likes a good story about a bridge?
Meh, but Buzz Killington's so much more entertaining than watching Jimmy Fallon muse to himself about ponytails making the back of girls' heads look like "horses' butts." |
