California bill seeks to legalize marijuana
By Jim Sanders
The Sacramento Bee

Smoke weed — help the state?

Marijuana would be sold and taxed openly in California to adults 21 and older if legislation proposed Monday is signed into law.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, said his bill could generate big bucks for a cash-starved state while freeing law enforcement agencies to focus on worse crimes.

"I think there's a mentality throughout the state and the country that this isn't the highest priority – and that maybe we should start to reassess," he said.

Critics counter that it makes no sense for a Legislature so concerned about health that it has restricted use of trans fats in restaurants to legalize the smoking of a potentially harmful drug.

"I think substance abuse is just ruining our society," said Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley. "I can't support that."

"I think it's a slippery slope," Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto, said of easing pot laws. "We'll do everything we can to defeat it."

Medical use of marijuana already is legal in California, but the new legislation would go a step further by allowing recreational use.

Assembly Bill 390 would charge cannabis wholesalers $5,000 initially and $2,500 annually for the right to distribute weed.

Retail outlets would pay fees of $50 per ounce of cannabis to generate revenue for drug education programs statewide.

The bill would prohibit cannabis near schools. It also would ban smoking it in public places or growing it in public view.

Before California could sell marijuana openly, however, it would have to persuade the federal government

So, what do you think? Is this good idea, or a bad one? I agree it could easily be legal and would bring in lots of money to the government. I kinda agree with it.

Another one is that if a woman worked, was wealthy, etc... when she married everything belonged to her husband, not her. The husband could spend HER money on mistresses/prostitutes. The technical role for women was to marry and reproduce... They took the phrase "obey your husband" too seriously (that phrase which is no longer around when saying your wedding vows).

Let's see... I changed what I wanted to do more times than I can count... at the end of this semester I will be done with half of my prerequisites for a nursing program... I was married in September of 2007... I'm having tons of fun!!! (which is the most important thing).. and finally, I'm coming to realize just how important my family and friends are to me.

God damn Indio cops. (I live the next city over).

I had heard about this from some friends, but wow! That was completely uncalled for. Everyone was booing at the cops, yet no one was standing up for him. The guy wasn't violent, there was no need for a flippin' taser him.

He must have been on drugs, but seriously, he wasn't harming anyone. Yeah, arrest him for indecent exposure.... why fight with him and make a show out of it?

ARGH. This is why I don't go to Coachella Fest, it's stupid.

I know the crazy guy on drugs was in the wrong.

But I know the cops in that town.... and they are idiot assholes on a power trip. I guess that's what made me irritated about the situation...

I'm currently reading:

Buzzed: The straight facts about the most used and abused drugs from alcohol to ecstasy.

I have the advanced reader copy (ARC, and uncorrected proof) of Kim Harrison's teen novel that comes out next month: Once Dead, Twice Shy.

And I'm also rereading Kim Harrisons The Outlaw Demon Wails before I read her latest, White Witch, Black Curse.

That's... such a bizarre occurence. This is probably the most normal looking child with anencephaly I've ever seen. Look up "anencephaly" on Google and look at images... but only if you have a strong stomach.

She's definitely not crazy psycho or anything. She sure as hell isn't an octo-mom... but I would rather have had an abortion than put a living being through anencephaly.

Anencephaly is a cephalic disorder that results from a neural tube defect that occurs when the cephalic (head) end of the neural tube fails to close, usually between the 23rd and 26th day of pregnancy, resulting in the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp. Children with this disorder are born without a forebrain, the largest part of the brain consisting mainly of the cerebral hemispheres (which include the isocortex, which is responsible for higher level cognition, i.e., thinking). The remaining brain tissue is often exposed—not covered by bone or skin.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anencephaly

Only view this page if you have a strong stomach.

Without a forebrain, the body cannot control temperature, reproductive functions, eating, sleeping, and the display of emotions.

So, it's killed quite a few people now, and is infiltrating California, Texas and New York.

A local school, Indio High School had an infected student, so the school (all students, faculty and staff including janitors), has been shut down for seven days.

The nearest marine base (Twenty-nine Palms) has a confirmed case, and the infected marine and his roommate are under quarantine.

Sooo... thoughts?

Posted on 05-05-09 02:55 AM, in Turns out my younger sister is suicidal, in a special hospital for awhile... Link
Because she's a minor, you may need to get permission from your parents to visit her.... I think.

As for the whole situation... We're in a very similar boat. My little brother is kind of the same. He was born with a disorder so that his entire right side is bigger than his left (he even wears two different sized shoes), and had a very hard time with his appearance and going through school. He hardly had friends, wasn't social, etc etc.

He joined the military and was doing great. Now he's in and out of a psychiatric ward of a hospital... doing weird drug combinations and partly suicidal. None of us understand... we think it's odd that it would randomly come up like that, and it will probably screw up the rest of his life.

The best thing you can do is be positive and talk the person into understanding. But, since she's young and in high school.... she may be a little angsty and not willing to budge on her opinion. I really had to push on my brother that his entire family loved him, along with naming a few of his friends who cared.

It's hard. I thought I had a close relationship with my brother.. then it seemed as if we didn't know each other at all.

Good luck, I'm sure your sister will be okay given some time.
