It IS a little difficult to find a career that makes money with that degree unless you persevere and take every opportunity you get to be an intern, etc.

As for student loans.... I've got a good $12,000 in loans, one is a government loan, the other (bigger) loan is a private loan. I don't have anything but a good time to show for it. I went to a photography school (Brooks Institute of Photography), and couldn't stand the way the teachers taught.

I'm thinking about going back to school to get a bachelor's and possibly a master's degree in History and be a history professor at a university.... I'm just scared of the debt I'm going to accumulate.

Free Rice!

It tests your vocabulary, and for every word you get right, the website donates 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.

Soooo... play stupidly addicting game... donate lots of rice. ^-^

I learned about sex when I went through puberty, which is probably the best time to have learned about it. This is when I was 10 years old. Why lie to a female child about why she's bleeding for 5 days? That'd be pretty retarded. My mom told me the basics, and towards the end of elementary school they separated the girls and boys and showed them each a video explaining everything... my middle school seemed to have skipped the whole thing, and in my freshman year of high school we had health class and everything was said in depth, including STDs, pregnancy, etc.

ahhh I was making sure a girl that came to our party wasn't going to die in my bathroom because she drank too much. my husband sprayed everyone with champagne and therefore was covered in it, so I refused to kiss him because he was all gross... and I'm sure if I smelled like champagne, the girl I was helping would have started vomiting again. She prolly weighs under 100 pounds and drank 5 beers, had around 6 shots of hard liquor then decided to have an Irish car bomb. Dummy. >.<

fuck you UHaul!!!! For nearly killing me, my husband and my friend!!

We were driving down the I-5 freeway in Stockton, California with a stupid UHaul trailer attached to the back of our truck going around 50 mph... when all of a sudden we hit a bump and there's a crash and all of a sudden you can look out the mirror and read the entire side of the trailer!! The damed thing came unhooked and the trailer went sideways nearly tipping over while still partially attached to the truck via the safety chains.... We had to pull over on the side of the busy freeway on a BRIDGE at an offramp because it was the only wide part of the road.... and people wouldn't even merge into the other lane!!!! big rigs passed us, causing the ENTIRE bridge to shake like it was an earthquake while the guys did their damnedest to rehook the trailer!!

FUCK YOU UHAUL PIECE OF SHIT!!!

I'm definitely voting for Ron Paul, despite not being republican. It doesn't really matter to me what label you want to put on me for my political choices, because I'm voting for the candidate who I agree with most.

I live in a desert. It hasn't snowed one bit!! w00t.

As for Oregon however.... I had to drive through all of Oregon in the second week of January. It blew. Oregon doesn't know how to plow roads. It was terrifying. Oregon's residents drive like maniacs... and it was just a sucky adventure all together.

I did a little research.... and got a little off track. But the $35,000 Ashera kitten can weigh up to 30 pounds and can be walked with a leash. Some people try to sell the Savannah Cat as one of these.

I was a part of these two boards a llooonnng time ago called Summit Island and Shadow something or rather. They were Final Fantasy boards. Some random guy joined one of them and we talked on AIM and he told me about VizzedBoard. After awhile Vizzed got really lame and religious and so someone gave me the link to here, and voila! I'm here. Keep in mind this happened within 6 years or so. *feels old*

I second Genome. *hugs*

Out of high school I wanted to be a photographer. So I went to photography school, found it too expensive with very few opportunities. So I left. Thought about school and different things... meteorology, couldn't find a local school. Thought about interior design... moved 1500 miles away to go to school and start a new life where I was... but it didn't work out.

So right now I'm back where I'm from and thought to myself: I think working in a hospital is in my blood. My uncle's a nurse, my grandma's a nurse, my mom's a secretary/nurses assistant, my aunt is something at a hospital... etc etc..

So right now I'm going to try the nursing program at the local community college. It's pretty good from what I hear and has some really high passing results on the NCLEX (registered nursing exam). And surprisingly, I'm really excited about it. I didn't think I'd like the medical field, but it has some good perks. Like $28 an hour for graduate nurses. ^-^

So don't fret about changing what you wanna do, Katana. You have to feel out what you want to do. <3

Yeah, I took the SAT when I was a senior in high school.... I didn't need to take it, so I bull shitted it. I got 1000 out of 1600. They changed it so you had to do the essay portion RIGHT after I took it. It was a really dumb test if you ask me....

Hey, I never realized that this thread was here... and I read at least 2 or 3 books a month. I just finished Kim Harrison's newest book, "The Outlaw Demon Wails" which is book 6 in her Rachel Morgan series. It was pretty fast paced, good character development and funny as always.

A book that I really want to read, but haven't had the chance to is called "Thirteen Reasons Why" which is about a girl who committed suicide and records herself giving thirteen reasons why she is going to do kill herself. A boy is one of the reasons, and he is one of the main characters in the book. A girl I work with said that it was one of the best teen books she's ever read.

And.... I'm currently in the middle of "City of Ashes" which is the second book in a trilogy about a girl who was raised normally but actually "Nephilum" (or something, can't figure out how to spell it right now...), and finds that her father is some evil mastermind and there are others like here and are known as Shadowhunters who generally protect humans, werewolves, warlocks, vampires and the fae from demons, etc. It's quite good, even if it is only a teenager's book. ^-^;

Posted on 04-18-08 01:30 PM, in Marijuana: A Cure For Cancer? Link
An article from my local newspaper, The Desert Sun:

http://www. mydesert. com/apps/pbcs. dll/article?AID=/20080412/COLUMNS26/804120315

"The Office of National Drug Control Policy has been spending millions of taxpayer dollars on advertisements and printed material declaring that marijuana causes cancer. The truth is just the opposite - marijuana can prevent cancer. Recent research has shown that the cannabinoids found in marijuana can not only halt the spread of cancer but can also kill cancer cells.

A study conducted in 2005 by Dr. Donald Tashkin at the UCLA School of Medicine demonstrated that people who smoke marijuana are at less risk of developing lung cancer than tobacco smokers. The study of 2,200 people in Los Angeles found that even heavy marijuana smokers were no more likely to develop lung, head or neck cancer than non-users. In comparison, tobacco users' risk of cancer increases the more they smoke.

Data in Dr. Tashkin's study suggest that people who smoke marijuana are less likely to develop lung cancer than people who do not smoke anything at all. Since marijuana smoke contains the same cancer-causing agents as tobacco and the only difference between the nonsmokers and the marijuana smokers was their use of cannabis, then it is not an unreasonable hypothesis that marijuana can prevent the development of cancer.

In 2003, Dr. Manual Guzman at the Complutense University in Madrid Spain published a research paper entitled Cannabinoids: Potential Anticancer Agents. Dr. Guzman's research on the brains of laboratory rats found that the cannabinoids in cannabis inhibit tumor growth and are selective antitumor compounds, as they can kill tumor cells without affecting noncancerous cells.

Investigators at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health reported in January 2008 that the administration of cannabinoids halts the spread of a wide range of cancers, including brain cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, pancreatic cancer, and lymphoma. The report noted that cannabis offer significant advantages over standard chemotherapy treatments because the cannabinoids in cannabis are both non-toxic and can uniquely target malignant cells while ignoring healthy ones.

Is the evidence incontrovertible that cannabis can inhibit the spread of cancer, kill cancer cells and prevent the development of cancer?

No it is not - but doctors are telling millions of people to spend billions of dollars and ingest all kinds of supplements on way less evidence than there is to support the anti-cancer properties of cannabis.

When taking any kind of medicine or supplement, a person needs to decide if the claimed benefits of a product outweigh the risks. Many times the answer is no.

Cannabis is not one of these products, as there has never been a single death attributed to cannabis or any other significant debilitating consequences.

Further, the vast majority of cannabis users report numerous beneficial effects.

If cannabis can prevent the development of cancer, then the appropriate ingestion of cannabis is desirable in the same way that the appropriate ingestion of calcium supplements can prevent or at least delay the onset of osteoporosis. Since for the vast majority of people, cannabis has no negative side effects and only beneficial effects, it would seem that the regular appropriate ingestion of cannabis as a cancer preventative agent would be a prudent course of action.

Lanny Swerdlow, a resident of Palm Springs, a registered nurse and is director of the Marijuana Anti-Prohibition Project, an Inland Empire-based medical marijuana patient support group and law reform organization. He may be reached at lanny@marijuananews.org."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what do you think? Will discoveries like this be the cause of the legalization of marijuana? Is this the beginning of a complete cure for cancer?

Posted on 04-19-08 01:05 PM, in Hello, sunburns, my old friend Link
SO..... it's already been about 100? this year, where I am. No clouds in sight. I got sunburned about a month ago at an autocross (a bunch of fancy cars running a road course).... it was about 85? then.... and it is only getting hotter! YAY PALM DESERT!! Anyway, my next sunburn will probably be at the Renaissance Faire on the 10th up in Irwindale. <3 I'm already starting to carry around sunblock, but seeing as how I'm only outside at night, except for driving the 4 minute drive to work, I can avoid the sun daily. It pays to be a night owl. ^-^
