Boot Camp allows users of the new Intel based Macs to install Windows XP natively.

I personally think Apple is just trying to shoot themselves in the foot and it makes me sad as a Mac user. :/

I have no idea to be honest with you..

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was an Operating System called OS/2..

And guess what? It had Windows binary compatibility. Which means it could runs Windows applications natively. Well, you'd think that would make the OS more popular, yeah? WRONG. It killed it. It killed it dead. And the scary fact of it all is.. they had more market share then than Apple does now.

I fear for Apple if they keep making stupid mistakes like this.

Eh, While that's plausable. That's hardly the reason.

From the response I've seen/heard. The people most likely to dual boot OSX with Windows of any sort are people who absolutely NEED a Windows app for their job but don't want two machines.

I always hate sounding like a sour worry wart but eh..

Hm, IE is still iffy in other areas besides security.. Even with 7 beta 2 :/

I really cannot wait for XHTML2.. it will bring some amazing features that will make XHTML seem different..

Like any property will be able to add the href function to it. So you can like.. make a div, set a background image to it and STILL make it clickable by just adding href="http://www.blah.net" after it's class or id.

That will be VERY handy for me, I always use a javascript to do that dirty work.

I really don't have too much to contribute to this topic other than what has already been said, Obviously this is an awful idea and is about taking the freedom away from the users of the computer. If this should become mandatory on all OEM PCs I could definitely see a rise in people getting their 'geek' friends to build their computers.

This kind of reminds me of what Richard Stallman says about DRM.

He calls it Digital Restriction Management.

This thread is a great example of the changing face of America, for the better.

I used to be pretty gloomy about the future of America based on the current leaders but if the young people of today are tomorrow's leaders? I think we'll be in great hands.

Are there any At The Drive-In fans who post here? I've been a fan of them for about a year and half now. They're really an amazing band if you want to check them out I highly suggest Invalid Litter Dept. or One Armed Scissor from "Relationship of Command". Pattern Against User is another favorite of mine.

If you like The Mars Volta, You'll love At The Drive-In, It's the same guys (almost) but more experimental with what they do.

I am an energy drink / caffeine fanatic.. BUT ... I hate Coke. With a passion.

For sodas I drink Dr. Pepper or Vault.

As for energy drinks I like Monster or Joker. Sobe for taste.

Yup, I'm taking my certifications to be come a joe shmoe IT guy.

I've already got my A+ certification books, I'm going to borrow some Network+ books and then just take the Linux+ since I know all that crap.

The only reason I need books for A+ and Network+ is because they focus so much on OLD and WINDOWS/DOS specifics. Really frustrating when you've spent the last 5 years focusing on all the emerging standards you forgot the differences between a 16bit and 8bit ISA slot.

I really.. REALLY wish I had started on this last year. I didn't realize my insurance would cut out if I was no longer a student and I won't have all these out of the way by the time I turn 18.. which means I won't have a job with insurance coverage by then.. oops?

That's an entirely new adventure in itself.. but yeah. Yay me. I may still go to college to be like.. uber employable. But it probably won't be needed if I get all the certs out of the way.

Wether or not I still go to college is up for grabs. If I can get a good job based on the certifications I'll be getting. Then I'll do that. If by some chance the places I look into further require college experience or college degrees I'll be willing to do that as well. Just whatever it takes.

I've never been to a school dance. I was never asked to go with anyone and the thought of showing up alone and sitting in the corner didn't thrill me too much..

Oh well, I guess it's just one of those teenage things I'll never experience.

Posted on 04-10-06 02:13 AM, in OS Virtualization Link
Okay with all the new news about Windows running on the latest Intel based macs, I want to take the time to talk to you guys about OS virtualization.

At face value it looks nothing more than something like vmware which emulates hardware in a window and is let's face it. Ass slow.

But let's say you have a really modern Mac with a dual core processor and 1.5GBs of ram.

You can allocate one of your cores to Windows XP and give it 512mb of ram to roam with.

Not only does the parent OS still behave VERY fast and normal (It's got one core still and 1gb of ram) but the host OS is just as fast with 512mb of ram and a core of the processor. Which means you can run OS X and Windows XP at the same time at amazing speeds.

Why is this cool? Well, for most users honestly, it's nothing more than "wow" factor. But when you're a developer or you're a mac user and your job REQUIRES you to use some weird Windows only app, it's a godsend.

After the summer is up, I might buy myself on of the latest macs.. anyone want to loan me 2 grand so I can go all out?

I am listening to At The Drive-In - Invalid Litter Dept. from Relationship of Command.

It's a really sad song about these slave women in mexico who are routinely raped and murdered.

Well that may be true Syntax, but it's no reason to call names.

I've been more and more dissapointed in IE7, The Microsoft team for it has been saying it's CSS rendering will be better than Firefox's.. Riiiight.
