| "Hey hey hey!" Kayla wraped her arms around Ryan from behind to stop him from hurting himself more. She turned him around to face her and reached up, wiping a tear from his eye.
I have no idea how to handle this... she thought to herself ruefully. "If you're in a hurry to leave this moment...don't let us keep you..." She didn't even turn to Dutch as she spoke. She was too busy tearing a piece off of the bottom of her lab coat and wrapping it around Ryan's knuckles. "There, that should hold until I can look at that properly." Finally, she turned to Dutch. "This needs to be handled right away and I need to at least go in tomorrow to let them know I'm taking off." God damn it Kayla! Do you HAVE to sound so insensitive?! her thoughts echoed through her mind as she faced Ryan once again. |

Well you see Xander...it's because you're a dork and can't enjoy a good book.  Kidding, kidding.
Not everyone likes Harry Potter, and that's cool. I'll admit, I didn't jump on it right away cuz I thought it sounded stupid. Got really bored one day when I was in 8th grade, picked up my sisters' copy of the first book and couldn't put it down. As far as them not being your "reading level"...that's kinda the point. They're supposed to bring you back to the magic of being a child...well, that's what they do for me at least. |

| Kayla nodded. She patted Ryan on the shoulder before taking off to the nearest phone booth. She dug through the pockets of her labcoat for some change. Quickly, she put the coins into the slot and picked up the phone.
She froze. Bakairu... she thought to herself. She stared at the phone, now cradled in her shaking hand. Finally, she just swallowed and took in a deep breath. Kayla then quickly dialed the number. |

| Holly's patience was wearing thin. She let out a long, deep sigh, as she waited for Brad. She didn't want to be there. At all. However, she really didn't have much of a choice. Everything happened too quickly back at the Marinae base and she would be foolish to try and escape now. She wasn't going to give up her shard though, that was for damned sure. She didn't trust Brad, not the Eshy'um(Sry, I forgot how to spell it) faction for the matter. As far as Josiah was concerned, her mind was torn in two directions. Part of her couldn't help but see him as her friend, that same person who accompanied her on her search for the phantom shards. But another part of her felt that his recent actions were extremely suspicious.
She sighed again as she twirled a piece of her black hair between her fingers. She decided she was going to wait it out, get to know her surroundings before trying to make any sort of escape. |

| **nods** Yeah...Apple would've sucked..and yah...gotta learn to control them emotions too. Lost it again tonight...but this was different.
Okay, so, two of my sisters, Nicole and Tisha, they live on the same block, just on opposite ends. Tisha is the one who had the baby. Everyone was at Nicole's, and Tisha said she needed me to help her at her place to carry some things over to my other sister's. So we got there and she was like "Before we go, sit on the couch and close your eyes." Didn't seem suspicious though, cuz Tisha and I always exchange a gift on Christmas Eve. S'been a tradition since I found out George was dying, which was Christmas Eve, 7 years ago now...so I lost a father, and a year later she lost a son. We both agree that a parent losing a child is the worst possible thing in the world, but a child losing a parent sucks too...  So...I dunno. We just always do something special for each other on Christmas Eve.
I didn't know my brother-in-law was upstairs already. So, I'm sitting there with my eyes closed, then all of a sudden...the baby is in my arms! She was sleeping, so it worked out perfect. I didn't hear anything coming. I just looked at her and started to cry. She's the prettiest thing I've ever seen in my life. We really thought we were going to lose her...After doing the whole baby Matthew thing with them about 6 years ago...I know its selfish...I'm not the mother or father...but I would've really been heartbroken...this past month was so scary. It really was. I dun even know how to stress how it felt...and then she was there in my arms tonight, sleeping. Oh! And she looks just like my Vincent, her big brother. Well, she has the big bug eyes like he did...they're so cute though...and she's so little...
My sister, brother, and I cried for like 45 minutes though, before we finally pulled ourselves together and went to my other sister's house...it was great though. I can't emphasize it enough. I'll try and get picys tomorrow. |

BIC: "Because...You just can't have it." Her voice was still soft. Was she caving a little? There was a knot in the pit of Holly's stomach. Her mother had given her the shard before she died...Her eyes looked to the ground for a few moments before she tilted her head to the side and looked up at Brad again. "Extreme measures?" She shook her head slowly. "Mr. Desin, I don't call taking a shard, that does nothing but protect its user, from someone who is on no one's side and unwilling to aid anyone an extreme, or necessicary for the matter, measure." She looked to the floor again, still clutching onto her shard. This was it. The only thing her mother left behind...Holly was losing the battle. There was no reason for her to be cocky anymore. These people had guards, with weapons, and she only had hand-to-hand combat training as well as a shard that she could not control. She didn't want to be there anymore...but no one would save her. Who the hell am I to assume someone would come? No one's that special... she thought grimly to herself. "I'm sorry..." she says, shaking her head again. "I'm not giving it up. Why do I have to give a reason? It isn't your's. Why isn't that simple enough?" |

| Before Holly could respond, they were at the top floor. When Jack offered her a seat, for a fleeting moment she subconsciously grabbed Brad's sleeve and froze. She closed her eyes and breathed in only to open her eyes as she let the air out. As she stepped further into the office, she caught a glimpse of Josiah out of the corner of her eye. However, she did not make eye contact. She was finally with him again...but it didn't have the same feeling she thought it would. Now, she couldn't even bring herself to look over in his direction. She took her seat, crossed her legs and folded her hands on her lap. Holly then glanced over at Jack.
"I bet you boys feel powerful now." She says sarcastically. |

| Bastard... Katana thought to herself a strange man entered the inn. Well, most of the people there could be considered "strange"...but this one had an aristocratic air about him...but there was also something else odd that she could sense...
Katana sat at one of the tables, leaning over a drink. She wore a black cloak with her hood up to help conceal her demonic form. She watched the man head toward his room and then paid no more attention. Rather, she finished her drink and rose from the table. Underneath her black cloak was a turquoise top with thin sleeves that draped losely over her shoulders, along with a dark brown skirt and black leather knee-high boots. Everything was tight fitting of course, but she didn't mind. Her human side felt it was easier to fight in the tigher clothing. In her present form, however, she simply kept them to show off her slender, curvy figure. Gingerly, Katana pushed her chair in and began making her way for the door, her boots clicking on the wooden floor. As she passed Enn, something about him drew her attention as well. She peered at him through her red eyes from underneath her hood. Her lips parted as though she were about to speak, but formed a smirk instead. She then turned to head out the door once again. She was only three feet from the exit when it happened. One of the men who had obviously had too much to drink reached over and grabbed her upper thigh. Katana looked sideways at the man as he flashed her an almost-toothless grin. She rolled her eyes and let out a sigh as he made an offer she had only heard many times before. Gently Katana leaned forward and lifted the man's hand off her thigh. She then smirked as she threw back her hood, revealing her cat-like ears, short black hair, and red eyes. Her lips were pressed into a smirk once again as she lifted the man up by the collar of his shirt with only one arm. Almost as though it were nothing, she flipped him over the table and he landed on his back. His two comrades quickly rose to their feet, but she simply reached out behind their heads and knocked them together. As they crumpled to the ground she steped over them to the original offender. Katana was still smirking as she placed the tip of her boot to his throat. "The next time you want to play, make sure you know what you're playing with." She says cooly. She then glanced about the room as she slowly lifter her hood once again. Her eyes fell upon Enn once again. Odd... she thought to herself as she gave Enn a wink and turned and finally walked out of the Inn. |

| Outraged, Holly jumped to her feet.
"He stays Josiah." She said cooly. She finally made eye contact with him. She froze in place and no words could come to her mind. Part of her wanted to just reach out and slug Josiah, and another wanted to hug him. She was glad he was safe...couldn't help it...but she was also still suspicious of him. "If I have to put up with being here, so does Mr. Desin." She says finally, gently nudging Josiah's hand out of the way. She then looked over at Jack. "Now...Mr..." She paused, unsure of what to call him. It doesn't matter now. she thought to herself. "I don't know who the hell you think you are...BOTH of you." She says angrily, turning to Josiah as well. "Where do you get off thinking you can bring me here...AGAINST my will I might add...You're not getting anything from me, so you'd better either kill me or just send me on my way." She grossed her arms, glaring at both Josiah and Jack. |

| Ignoring the offer for tea, Holly glanced up at Brad and shook her head. "You didn't see the display that I was so privileged to witness..." She said softly. When he attacked them at the Suvoj base... she thought.
She let out a sigh and then looked over at Josiah. "What are you doing?" She decided to get to the point rather than go off on another one of her tangents. "Josiah, you're not getting the damned thing from me." She didn't know what to do. There was still a small part that saw him as the Josiah she had traveled with. Maybe he's just trying to trick them? she wondered. But then...why would he act as he did earlier? "Mr. Dreddin, what makes you think he won't use this thing against you?" Holly had finally decided not to trust Josiah this time. Even if this was some sort of trick, he was wrong. He was hurting people to get what he wanted. She wasn't going to help him. "Mr. Desin, there was something I didn't tell you earlier." She turned around to face him, and caught a glimpse of Josiah. It doesn't matter what I say about my shard in front of him...he already knows. "Yes, it always formed a protective shield around me when I've needed it, but...Leo-someone was hurt. Severely. I can't explain exactly what happened, but it healed him...I'm guessing that's why it didn't activate when you held the gun to me and brought me here. It's probably been tapped out for a while. I sure as hell felt that way after the little light show from earlier." She paused. "I still don't understand the damned thing, but I've been comming up with some possibilities...Josiah..." Again she turned toward him. "I'd rather not experiment with my assumptions today. You're not getting it." She turned to Jack and gave a slight nod. "Now, I hope that I've made myself perfectly clear. As long as I'm alive, this shard will be in no one else's posession." She said matter-of-factly. "Mr. Desin, I'm sorry...it won't do me any good if I'm dead...but we'll all probably end up that way if Josiah gets everything he wants." |

| "No." She said calmly. "Hasn't anyone heard a damned word I've said?" Her cheeks began to fluster. She was getting aggrivated. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out. Instead, she turned sharply and quickly moved past Brad toward the elevator, the way they came in.

| Holly gasped as the doors opened and Seifer appeared before her. Her eyes widened and her heart skipped a beat. Finally!! she thought to herself. Holly grinned. "Hello Seifer." She says calmly. However, before she could say or do anything else, Brad had used his shard to bind Seifer.
"Stop it!" She shouted. Her wrist grew warm as her shard began to glow. She took two steps back, practically leaning aginst Seifer. It's working again! she thought, as a shield enveloped both Holly and Seifer. She looked over at Josiah and glared. "I still don't understand what you're doing or why you're doing it...you're not getting it." Her voice was soft, but firm. |

| I'm being trailed... Katana thought to herself a few moments later. She walked through the town as though she owned the place, taking one confident stride after another. She could smell it in the air though. The scent was familiar...it had to be someone from the inn. She smirked to herself as she decided to make following her difficult. Gracefully she weaved in and out of the crowds or people swarming the place. She kept this up for a few moments until...
"Goddamn it..." She mumbled under her breath. She could feel herself growing faint. Her eyes darted around quickly until she spotted an alleyway. She walked over to it, inspecting the area around it. Luckily, it was completely empty. Once again, she glanced around to see if anyone was watching. She couldn't spot whoever was following her from the pub, nor could she smell them. Hopefully I've lost whoever it was... she thought to herself. Katana knew that she was about to change to her human form, but she hoped that she lost their scent because she really lost them, as opposed to her demonic sences failing her. With that she ducked into the alley way and knelt behind some crates before passing out. |
