Gore actually won both the popular AND the electoral vote, according to my boss. I don't really recall caring/understanding at the time (Sue me, I was 12) but apparently there was a supreme court judge who didn't do his thing...I dunno...I was listening to the ramblings of a wickedly stressed out of his mind attorney today. :p

And Cteno...you were able to vote in the Bush/Kerry election? Didn't you like...JUST turn 25? I was 16 when that shindig went down...couldn't vote until McCain/Obama.

But, huzzah. My boss let me come in late for work just so I could vote. I could have just gone super early, technically, but, the safety in my neighborhood changes exponentially when one is out BEFORE the "going to school" traffic starts, and during(and even then, still not so safe...). So, my boss was a bamf on my behalf.

Aaaannnndddd, there goes my two cents. The image is hilarious, btw.

Yeah. That's what I meant, that pro-choice doesn't mean you're all about abortions willy nilly. But that's what pro-lifer's seem to throw at the pro-choicers.

Bit late, but Happy Thanksgiving guys!

Mine was normal. Nearly 30 people crammed in one house, and yet there was STILL too much food. It never goes to waste though. None of were ever picky about leftovers or having the same thing for like...two weeks straight. Even then, we'd still eat the same thing, but the food goes bad by then. Haha.

Let's see...what else...there was the normal trip to the ER. Usually one of more of us gets hurt. You all know that meme about sentences starting with "Watch this?" well yeah...most of those memes stemmed from truth...seriously. Because when my brothers-in-law, nephews and I get together, "Watch this" are typically the famous last words before an ER trip. This year had something to do with trying to make their own torch with fire and cooking oil. Backfired of course.

No it's not. It's the easiest, most fun way to instigate on a massive level. Wanna cry about rejection being the worst pain a human being can go through? Fine. I shove scientific proof that actually, getting shot in the knee cap is one of the most painful euphorias that doesn't kill you. Might not be THE, but I didn't see rejection higher on the list than that. I get deleted on a daily basis.

That little friend request notification is a bullseye. People putting their own targets on their own backs. It's great.

And any who...yeah, I can see how this Hostess thing was annoying to see when other issues were being ignored, but Astrophel is right. Its still news. Locally, there was A LOT of fear and trepidation about whether or not they would have a job. Like...its easy to assume that jobs would be an issue, but it wasn't just something I was reading about. Since this has been going on, I've been in the room more often than not, with someone who's put almost 40 years into the company and are going to lose not just their job, but everything.

But like everyone else has pretty much been saying, yes, its been exceedingly annoying to see that everything was about hostess and making Twinkie jokes. Twinkies taste like shit anyway. But For the people who use social networking a billion times a day on useless shit anyway, they could have afforded more time on not just the hostess bullshit, but other issues as well.

Yeah. Cuddling. That's exactly what happened. :p

So...I did these make-up tests this time last year, and was able to re-create them, but didn't get pictures this time. But I live in this unchanging bubble of never growing up, so here they are anyway. Cuz, Facebook isn't the only place to post this shit. But make-up is an art to me. It's REALLY fun. I just don't normally walk out the door with this much on.

It was supposed to be for the Marine Corps ball last year, but I ended up not having the balls to go out that done up.

My Christmas was hectic as hell. As usual. 22 people in my small ass house...and NO ONE fought. It was REALLY freaking weird. And instead of picking on me, my sisters kept telling me I reminded them of "Jackie-O"...which is probably the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me...and it was said by the meanest ones! So I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.

But...if anyone ever put up with my babbling over the years...my nephew Vincent...my baby. Seriously, he shoulda came along years later as my own child. I love them all, but he's special...well...he's 14 now. Was about 5 when I first joined here, and I talked about him constantly...and now he's bigger than me. Like...I had on three inch heels in this picture...

I used to toss him over my shoulder, and my other nephew Joey under the other arm and we'd beat each other up. Now they're both bigger than me and even though they're supposed to be my babies, heaven help the one who messes with me now. I'm not sure if I'm too comfortable with the sudden change. XD

And my great-niece is 2 now. She's been up my butt constantly for the past few weeks now. But at least I finally feel like an actual aunt now.

And this was taken today. The sorta boyfriend. His mom made him bring me over since she swears we're going to get married someday anyway. I dunno. Food was awesome though.

Aaaannnnddddd....of course I have a buttfuck ton more pictures...since I got a new camera and all.

I hope everyone else had as good of a time as I did! Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Edit: Wtf. I re-sized everything to be smaller. Its coming up smaller everywhere else, but here...

Man...my senior year theology teacher would have had a field day with this. Woulda been nice to still be in her class and bring this one up. 12 years in a Catholic school, of course I heard all about abortion being wrong and how important it is to be against it. Although the enigma of my personal experience with Catholic school is that they taught me those things without teaching me to hate others with different opinions, AND they also had a pretty damned decent respect for science. Senior year "Science is God's way of looking out for us. If a doctor tells you your baby can not be born under normal circumstances and will kill the mother if she does not end the pregnancy, then the obvious choice is to follow God's will and save the mother's life." or something like that, and then she'd add "See? You can believe in God AND science!"

Can't say I agree with everything I was taught in regards to what my religious beliefs ought to be, but I'm damn positive I like the way it was presented to me. Without bigotry. But its things like this that pisses me off. Outside of my bubble, I saw this all the time, people using their religious beliefs, Catholics specifically, in my local area, in accordance with convenience. The only positive I can say is, maybe mistakes like this WILL be good for the fight against having Roe v. Wade overturned. I mean, I'm against abortion in the sense that I don't think it should be a go to unless necessary, but I do understand that there are extenuating circumstances, and health isn't the only one, and I don't believe in forcing my beliefs on others.

Otherwise, my heart goes out to the family who has to suffer because of the this wrongful death.

I kinda wish our armed forces members would weigh in on this, because part of me feels like this is something that you kinda gotta be there to truly understand it.

While I am definitely always excited for new developments in gender equality, or any type of equality, I've heard some cases against this idea throughout my life, and they sound silly to me, but I'm not there, ya know? So I'm not a hundred percent on how I feel on this yet. Like, are they talking about letting women on the front lines by mixing the genders up? Or are they talking more like larger and more Lioness teams?

Its lines like your's though, about the women in the armed forces to be fully recognized for what they've done that gets me pumped up for the idea. I wish there were more women in my family or friends whom I could go to and ask about this though. True's input would be immensely appreciated. (I've been thinking about this topic since I heard...)

Posted on 01-27-13 10:22 AM, in Gun Reform Link
Astrophel basically hit it on the nose for me. You too, LA, with your idea on gun safety and respect notion.

The purpose of the second amendment is a little outdated, if you ask me, and that's saying something considering our entire constitution is a good example of things that stand the test of time, agree with all of it or not. But the main purpose was to be able to form a militia against governmental oppressors. But technology has changed the relevancy of that idea. I saw it in a picture that was meant to be a sarcastic/funny meme, but its true! I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible to stand up to the US armed forces via militia now. That doesn't mean I don't support the second amendment for other reasons, but that is one that I'm pretty sure is irrelevant at this point in history.

Here in PA, we have Castle Law, which means you break in my house, try to harm me or my family, you're not getting out unscathed. I am somebody who has personally had to rely on that law three times. And by personally, I mean I was either the only one home(once) or was the only adult home(twice), otherwise, its happened more than three times in my own life experiences. But my family is also CRAZY big on the idea of respecting weapons and learning how to use them, like you two have talked about already. And like Astrophel expanded upon, we also don't believe on forcing the idea upon everyone else. Comparing it to a driver's license was pretty much dead on with how I was raised to think of it. But any who...we know how to make sure we're 100% positive a real threat is involved before squeezing the trigger.

Otherwise, schools should be gun free. As horrible as what happened recently is, the idea should be to prevent school VIOLENCE, not school "gun" violence. Rather than repeat any of the usual sentiments about teachers carrying and what parents may think/feel about that....I'd rather go with the other "usual" sentiments being that guns aren't the only way to terrorize schools. And it's HAPPENED, in recent history, and every day. Yes, I'm willing to bet that while some kids I just wanna smack upside the head and tell them to grow a pair, even going as "basic" as the bullying that goes on, is cause enough to make someone grow up and snap. And if they can't get a hold of a gun, they'll do something else.

See, I'm not a "gun nut" but I'm not anti-guns either. I don't think guns kill people, although using that line followed by "people do." as an argument is getting rather tiresome, because its used more or less as a one-liner thought to shut the opponent up, rather than to see the bigger picture. Again, I know I"m paraphrasing what's already been said. But we have other problems. The REASON for people to go apeshit with a weapon is a pretty big fucking deal to me, as I'm sure it is to you guys as well.

But what will be done? Nothing in the foreseeable future. I'm not even putting faith in much cosmetic changes being done. No one knows how to compromise in our government, and in my opinion, they should all be fired and replaced. The right won't let up because they can't seem to grasp that the left doesn't want to take away all guns and ignore the second amendment. I watched Obama's speech. At no point did he say "Second amendment? Fuck it." They also can't stand the idea of big government and this is a big deal for this country as a whole and something that in order to accomplish the bigger picture, MUST be done as a whole. But on the other side of the same coin, the left doesn't seem to understand that its not all big picture, there ARE smaller picture visions, and I believe that local government knows best.

Kind of off topic, but what I like telling the irrationals is to just learn how to count. That one comes before two, and if they want to whine to me about their second amendment rights being taken away, (which those are the people that I don't bother to explain to them that I'm pretty much on their side with protecting their amendment rights. And by "those people' I mean the irrationals out there. Total, batshit, irrational thinkers.) they had better hope that they're not going to tell me that religion should be a factor in social issues. Give me any intelligent reason other than religion, because the first amendment says we have a right to practice our own religious beliefs, but it also EXPLICITLY states that if religion is a reason for push for government action, the government can't give a shit about that. If they want to relent on THAT idea, then maybe their relentless cries of tyranny against the second amendment will be heeded. (It just seems hypocritical to me. First amendment: Keep the government involved in pushing our religious beliefs and keep the government involved in personal lives and blocking say, gay marriage. Second amendment: Get the government out of my right to weaponry. <---take my rants and assessments lightheartedly, just in case anyone gets insulted. I mean more in jest and lightheartedness rather than heated "I'm right and you're wrong because you're a stupid face." sort of discussion.)

Mia Turner begrudgingly made her way down the stairs of the dark movie theater. Her best friend Emily had gotten the soda refilled the last time they saw a movie together, so it was only fair for Mia to retrieve the next. Clutching the large cup of soda in hand, she made her way to the front concession stand. As usual, the back, and closest, concession stand was closed. With the sounds booming behind the closed doors of the other movies playing, Mia didn’t think much of the flickering lights. Besides, no one else seemed to notice.

“Refill please.” She says, handing the boy behind the counter her empty cup. The boy smiled. “What kind did you want?” he asked. “Uh…Root Beer.” Said Mia. The boy smiled and nodded as he made his way back to refill the cup. Once again, however, the theater dimmed. Once, twice…three times the lights flickered this time, only they went on and off for a good full second or two, unlike the last time. Glancing about again, no one seemed to notice, so she figured it was another glitch with the electronics running throughout the joint. Before she knew it, the boy was handing her the soda, and Mia was on her way.

After the movie was over, she and her friend walked out puzzled. The movie wasn’t too bad until the very end and most of the audience left the theater practically scratching their heads. As usual, the girls stopped in front of the bathrooms to chat with some of their other friends from school. Friday nights at the movie theater was popular for high school students, it seemed, and the theater was close enough to the for the kids to walk there right from school. Most of the friends she ran into were still in their uniforms even.

“Hey, Mia. Wait here. I have to go to the bathroom. Be out in a sec.” Emily called as she and some of the girls jogged toward the bathrooms. Mia waved toward her as she continued her conversation with the remaining girls. Once again, however, the lights flickered. Only, this time, everything fell dark for a while and when everything settled, her friends were gone.

“Hey, kid. We’re getting ready to close.” Said one of the employees. Dazed and confused, Mia looked around. “Huh?”

The gentleman let out an exasperated sigh as he continued on his way. “Oh. I’m sorry! I just need to go check on my friend if that’s okay.” The guy simply shrugged as he walked off. As she made her way toward the bathrooms, Mia’s confusion was replaced with heart pounding dread. Picking up her pace, she pushed through the narrow, tiled hall until she reached the open bathroom area.

“Emily?” she meekly called out. “Emily…where are you?” For the fourth time that evening, the lights flickered until going out completely. “Emm…?” she whispered. Despite the unnerving dark however, every other sense was heightened. Her arms and legs were littered with goosebumps, and she was certain the stiff hairs along the back of her neck would be visible to all. She took a few more steps before letting out the shiver she could no longer contain. The temperature dropped to below freezing, she could have sworn.

“It’s not funny.” She said, through clattering teeth. Then, suddenly, the lights jolted back on. With a sigh of relief, she began to press on. As she made her way toward the stalls, however, she smelt it. At first, she thought maybe Emily had been hiding so she could smoke her cigarette. It was a habit she wished she would quit, but she always knew the smell that comes right after a match has been lit. It was distinct. However, as Mia drew even closer, the smell got worse. If she never knew what rotting, burned flesh smelled like before, she did now, that was for sure. Instinctively, Mia put her sweater to her mouth, covering her nose as well.

“This way…” came a faint whisper from behind. “Not funny, Emmy!” Mia shrieked. Now, she was truly terrified. Once again, the voice cooed from behind her. Spinning around, there was no one in sight. Something was wrong. Mia knew that. Mia knew that the moment the lights started flickering earlier. She just didn’t want to believe it. As she heard the voice for a third time, she spun around again, violently this time.

Not again…she thought to herself. I thought they went away….

The monsters. When she was a child, she created some wild nightmares. So she thought they were. Nightmares didn’t leave bruises in the morning or scratch marks. They especially didn’t leave enough marks to warrant the state to take her away from her family. Nightmares didn’t do that…

As the memories began flooding back, she heard a loud thump in one of the stalls. Not knowing where she found her courage, Mia kicked open the door, only to see a dark, motionless lump. As she stared, the added smell of copper sickened her even more. And there was another figure. Hovering over what she finally recognized as her friend. She couldn’t see anything more than a dark blob, but it let out a shriek so bloodcurdling that she nearly passed out. But not before it darted straight toward her….

Hey everyone! FX and I felt like doing a new story, for shits and giggles. This is meant to be something fun, not too serious. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join. Extra input and imagination is also most welcome. Figured it was time to get back into bringing stories to life within a group, rather than my own personal endeavors. Nothing wrong with collaboration for us twenty-somethings, especially if it’s a chance to showcase new and improved skills in character designing, writing, and just general collaboration of ideas.

The premise so far is basic. Don’t worry about a backstory here. I just wanted everyone to get a basic idea of what we were thinking here. Just add a character profile here and I'll kick things off in a new thread once I have a few here. PM me for ideas on any sort of NPCs anyone would like to add, just so I can make sure everyone stays on the same page and this doesn’t turn into a clusterfuck. But, this takes place at a college every main character is somehow connected to. Be it as a student, faculty member, staff member…just make sure it makes sense for them to be there, is all. And if we don’t get much age variation, we can work with that too, so no need to force anything. Your character is a normal human being in many ways, except for one: They can see things that not everyone else can and their extra sensory abilities make them highly sought after creatures. Since the recording of human memory, there has always been a balance between the seen and unseen. Just like our society, not everything is bad…not everything gives a shit about being beyond indifferent and just trying to do their job…but sometimes…the things that go bump in the night are very real. I’m not talking Frankenstein and the like. The challenge here is to mix realism with imagination. Things don’t magically happen. For example, if I were to believe in “ghosts” and that they could physically contact or mark the living, there’d obviously be some very realistic and possibly devastating consequences, as already insinuated in the opener above. I have a few monsters in mind that I’ve created, but as the DM, essentially, I want to keep some surprises for everyone else.

But essentially, you are caught in that veil between life and death. The seen and unseen. The fathomable and the unfathomable.

Pending on how popular this becomes and how many people/characters we get here, I will of course run this accordingly. For now, let’s have fun in the simplicity. Use your imagination. PMs will be encouraged for any major sort of ideas.

I manage a gym now (got laid off, but this place pays more money, so woot?) but anywho...we sell this. Everyone buys/drinks it, and I'm just there with my soda and chips/fruit snacks/candy/pizza.

Anywho...tap water, bottled water...no matter. Whatever is in front of me. I'm still an avid soda/juice drinker though. I SHOULD do things that are more healthy, but...yeah. Well water though? That shit is in Jersey where my family goes for the summer, and it makes me sick and gives me the shits. So, I avoid it at all costs.
