| Books. On politics and shit for my classes. Then I was entitled to one free book, so I got Bill Maher's "The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody but Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass." Why? Because it fit the price range of the free book I was entitled, and Bill Maher is hilarious. So, 3 books, plus a 4th free book, spent less than 50 bucks. I guess that's good?

| A little late, I know...but "Hugo" got a lot of attention too...
And, I don't know...I was actually pretty excited about that. I ended up seeing the movie on a whim, but I was glad that I did. Ben Kingsley was fantastic, as always. I'm a fan of color schemes though. And the whole feel the colors in the movie brought on were really what did it for me. But it was refreshing, since things suck so hard lately. As for Billy Crystal...Its sad seeing him get old. **goes back to watching Billy Crystal on "Soap"** |

| She died like two days before my gram did. We had just left the hospital, stopped at a diner to get something to eat so we could go back in within the next few hours, and my mom's phone rings. She answers and says, REALLY shocked like "Dead?!"
My grandfather and I looked at each other and I never saw him more pale in my life. Then my mom puts her hand over her phone and says "Whitney Houston is dead!" and we wanted to punch my mom in the face. The end. |

I agree with the "middle ground" when it comes to help. No one held my mom's hand, but *I* was helped a great deal growing up, because my parents couldn't, and I am eternally grateful, and I break my back for all of those who stood in for me (that are still alive, that is, cuz most of 'em aren't.) But there's a line between actual help and enabling, and it can be difficult to see. My older sisters and my younger sister? I love my nieces and nephews. And my great-niece. All of them. Very VERY much. I've given up A LOT for them. But after baby number one, there shouldn't have been more. My mom, on the other hand, was lucky enough to "get it" and did not have more after me. (And when she tried, she was in a position to do so.) Point is, if you really want input, there's plenty here. There's reason to be happy about this kinda thing sometimes too. 
But I'm with you on feigning surprise.  I had to learn to not laugh in my sisters' faces at a VERY young age...if you can keep faking it, you truly are the man. |

| I'm sitting down for what feels like the first time in ages. Although, I don't sleep standing up, and I sit all day at work pretty much, so....guess it's not really an appropriate phrase? :p
But I finally feel like myself again, and not this mental whirlwind that was just going through the motions. I was taking care of my gram up until she died last month. Rogue would understand, most definitely. I loved her to death and she raised me, so there was no such thing as not taking care of her. And maybe it's just me, but doing right by her and making all of the sacrifices I made has made her passing much more bearable and while I'm not heartless, I'm not a bumbling idiot that's always reduced to tears over it. It's sad, but it's life, and I got to spend a lot of time with her But the week she died, I landed a new steady job, plus I was like 3 weeks away from midterms. While I never fussed over tests before, there has been a bunch of other shit going on. I'm getting commissions, so I've been busy with my art. (Elara, I didn't forget about Dahlia. I'm just not making any promises because I need the money more than I can afford the free-time.  ) Plus, I'm taking 6 classes, and still maintaining my 4.0, working full-time. It's only 4 days a week, but I put in about 46 hours each week anyway. I landed one of the law firm gigs. No file clerk position either. I'm a "legal secretary." No paralegal just yet, I only just switched my major, but the pay is much nicer than anything I've ever experienced (Still not enough to get a car and move out AND support my family, my grandfather is all alone now, and my mom is on disability and my step-dad has cancer, so I couldn't leave them even if I COULD afford it.).
But yeah, I'll be a paralegal soon, and I'm still doing art on the side. I'm just finally having a little room to breathe. Work-load didn't decrease any, but I have a better handle of it, so I'm feeling more like myself.
And yay Temple! Phoenix! We can go to school together! Hahahaha! And Rogue I really admire what you've done for your grandmother. I hope all is well and she's getting used to the nursing home. We were going to have to send my gram to one too. I physically couldn't lift her up all on my own, no one else could help me, and she couldn't help me move herself either. Besides, the last Pennsylvanian President didn't work out so well...
Also, I'm willing to bet money that Rick Santorum thinks he's got a good chance at being asked to fill the vice-presidency seat/candidacy. Mild side note, but just a "dreamy" notion of what I wish politics COULD be... My boyfriend and his family are hardcore Republicans and I bump heads with his mom a lot about it. My boyfriend just shuts down and refuses to talk about what's going on. But his dad is super cool. He's one of the few Republicans I have ever met who is able to concretely support his views and even though I don't exactly agree. He doesn't just say what he think SHOULD be, he offers potential plans to achieve those goals, and lives his own life accordingly. He also commands this sort of respect and dishes that same respect back even if he doesn't agree with you. That's the way we all can only hope it'd be. I'm quite a fan of the Lincoln quote "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. I'm proud to know someone who will hear me out even though he thinks right from the get-go that I'm probably wrong, admits to me when I surprise him and make him see things differently, or still disagrees but does so without being a complete and utter jackoff about it. Partisan is good. If Obama wins again, I hope he REALLY learned his lesson and stops trying to be everyone's friend, who sits to have a beer with you over a disagreement. That shit disgraces the office, and while at the time may be "cool" it diminishes the respectability of the office to the opponents. |

And I'm okay with that, as long as I know I'm making an effort that'll hopefully be in that direction, and I hope others feel the same. |
