Unfortunatly no contract. I wasn't important enough for one. It's more a "fuck you" to circumstance than it is to anyone else. I can TOTALLY understand Disney's angle on this. It was just rather disappointing. But fuck it. I'm going to answer the nagging call of law school. It's been beckoning me since I was a wee lass. I'm just finally confident enough to think I can handle it.

As for those mofos...just beat them. They might like it, but it might work too.

Stealing the phrase off of Drizz.

Dudes...we should totally like, make one weekend a month a mandatory "nerd weekend." Sure, most of us don't have the time to be on all the time like we used to...but at least an entire weekend will be fun. Even if not everyone is available the whole weekend, it's still better than sparngly hearing from each other.

But yeah...naturally calling it "nerd weekend" is meant eversoendearnigly...but just to make a longer topic out of this...does anyone here still unwind like that? Even sometimes? Where you just say "Fuck it. I'm going to my room, and not coming out until I've relaxed a little and got back into some of my hobbies."

I still do that. Wish I could do it more often, but ever so often, I climb up to my room, steal my sister's mini-fridge, and don't come out unless I've gotten at LEAST a few hours of gaming under my belt.

And I'm not talking what do we do to relieve stress. While something like this can be stress relieving, what do y'all nerds do for fun anymore? Whether stressed or not? :p

Hahahaha. I was dying. In all honesty, I think the notion, while still sexist technically speaking, wasn't meant to be as bad as it was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC5aGCOT6bs&feature=player_embedded

Rather than saying "Women suck at driving. Let's make that the goal for people to get." I think it's more like "It's a woman. Care about their safety more. Especially on the big bad road."

Edit again: Screw it. Copy and paste the link for now? I have to get going.

Posted on 08-16-11 02:03 AM, in Happiness... or Realism? Link
I'm having a similar dilema with the prospect of going to lawschool. I'll keep this short, so as not to make this about me.

The realistic idea is...there is debt and hardship everywhere...but people still manage to be happy. A quick perspective...between my mother and I, we brought in less than 25k last year. That's REALLY poor here where I'm from (although things here aren't AS inflated as they are out west it seems.) Bills are ALWAYS piled high. We don't have much, nor do we have the best of the little we all do have. BUT, I am still VERY happy. I get pissed off and have lots of frustrations, but overall...have nothing at this moment that can get me out of this bit of a slum, and yet I still love life.

Point is...if money is what you're worried about, realistically, "money problems" are inevitable, at some point in life. Those privileged to not have any worry like that are SOOOO few. As long as you make sure to the best of your ability that this won't be a waste, then this is a realistic decision, as well as one that will hopefully make you as happy as I know you freaking deserve to be. Go balls deep. If this is what you want, take the plunge.

There are probably going to be times that suck. When you first get out there may be a pretty damn hefty struggle. But you already forsee this possibility. If you want a "realistic" outlook, then change the idea of the struggle from being a possibility. Know that it's a definite, unavoidable part of this decision, and most likely, life in general. Understanding this first will be a BIG help. It'll help you keep your head in the game and held high. Do your damndest while you're doing the schooling, no matter where you go, to minimize the length of extreme financial struggle. Do everything and anything you can to research and accomplish what it is that will maximize your chances at getting the job asap.

It takes money and risk to make money. But one can still be realistic and happy at the same time.

Edit: I took too long typing this. Didn't see others posted before me. but I agree with them wholeheartedly.

The second one is MUCH cuter. Perhaps the camera freaks him out a bit? It's obvious he recognizes the person filming, but he does seemed a little perturbed, minus the obvious the poor baby is suffering from.

Foxes are VERY pretty though. I've seen a lot in person lately. Red ones like this one. Very pretty. Real fast too.

I have ALWAYS wanted to go to a LAN party. Much envy to you, man, should this be accomplished.

But yeah, there are a TON of games to play for the kind of LAN party you're thinking of. And Steam is fantastic. So even if you guys all come up with a game that you think might be awesome, but no one has it yet, like the Boss said, check out Steam. (Yes, I'm still a GameStop employee. Haha. But Steam is SOOOO much better for this kinda thing.)

And the image didn't show for me. I wanted to see what kinda glasses you wanted.

I pointed out your notion of a slow clap to several others, and I now have a legitimate excuse for not understanding that they're patronizing me. Hahaha. So once again, you have come to my aid, Elara.

At first the name colors were coming up sporadic. There'd be a yellow, few shades or that, purple, blues...etc....and now they're all coming up different shades of the same color, for me.

So now I can't decide which looked cooler. XD

Oh, and I had to change my theme for this too. I've been using the Night one since....forever?

Boss ftw. (Gotta honor Leon's memory and keep up his tradition of calling you "boss" in case you haven't noticed. Haha.)

I've been meaning to get back into card games myself actually. My friends and I have been poor as well...but we noticed we seriously don't have as much fun when we have some spending money. We actually prefer to just go to someone's house, hang out, drink, watch movies, play video games, etc...and we've been looking for something else to add. Tabletop RPGs are REALLY fun. I'm embarassed to admit that I'm not too familiar with them though. But Xeios and Caiori play DnD and I've been wanting to play, Xei and I talk about it all the time. Just never had the time.

Playing videogames like you do, Xeo, is fun. But honestly, I can only do that with certian people. It's either gotta be 2 player, I'm playing on my own, or I have something else to do while said other friend is playing games all day. I love all of my friends, but some of them just don't share my taste in games. But this one girl I grew up with and I, we could sit in the same room, only one of us have the controler, and still have a ball just hanging out all day. I miss those days actually.

But nerd weekend here for the board...I don't expect everyone can be here the ENTIRE weekend, it would still bring more conversation, like previously stated. I was thinking, actually, if we did this, we should make it maybe the first weekend of every month? Most major, family eating up the entire time, holidays aren't in the beginning of the month...and I'm sure Labor Day, 4th of July weekends might have lots of drunk posts, but they're hilarious anyway.

Posted on 08-21-11 12:36 PM, in Changing Your Name for Marriage Link
Was having an interesting discussion with my sister yesterday. She just so happened to hear me say that if I ever married, I sure as shit would change my last name. I'd be sad. My grandfather gave me this last name, but I can't use him as a scapegoat. The man was CRAZY old fashioned (although I was able to get away with being a tomboy.) and would roll over in his grave if I didn't take my potential husband's last name.

Other reason why It'd be sad? My last name is Babe. So yeah...hahaha.

But I was wondering, because there are many valid reasons FOR a woman to keep her last name after marrying. If she's in the entertainment business, or medical field, as my sister pointed out, then her name identifies the woman nearly if not AS much as her work. What are your thoughts on this? Men and women can answer. I know some guys who say they refuse to marry a woman who doesn't take their last name.

Me personally? I don't think it's that big of a deal. I'm feminist enough to think women deserve equality. But that's just it. Equality. I deserve equal pay as anyone for doing the same job and doing it at the same skill level, etc...but you know what? If a man is going to get on his knee, look up at me, most likely in front of other people, present a ring that HE paid for, and put himself on the line like that, then the least I can do is take the poor bastard's last name.

I have other views and reasos for feeling this way as well, but I was wondering what everyone else here thought? Does it matter? Or do you lean toward one way over the other?

Posted on 08-21-11 03:17 PM, in Running an Experiment Link
H'okay. So I'm taking a bunch of honors courses this semester, and I was wondering if I could call on members of this board to help out a little. Nothing will be required other than simply doing what we already do. Post. I'll be sure to let people know if there is a specific kind of point before, or sometimes after. (I may need the raw reaction to a post or such of mine to support a hypothesis. So, this post is the actual warning. In those cases, I'll be sure to let you all know after the event)

We have so many people here from all over the country, and some from all over the world, and I appreciate this place as one that I will always be able to count on for learning something new, and understanding the opinions of those effected by things other than what happens to me locally, and I hope others feel the same. Knowledge for knowledge sake is of great value to me, and I'm sure it is to you as well.

In any case, the first actual "experiment" I'm going to run is for a business course. It's an assignment on Network Marketing, that I've already been assigned, and I was curious how many people I could get to pledge to do their best to *attempt* to make 10 posts here a day throughout the entire month of September. I know we're all busy so all I'm asking is that we try our best. For the end result, I'm actually counting on there being days where someone can't make the 10 posts(be it any number between zero or 10). I definitely don't want to bring spam to this board, so the more people who pledge, the easier having sustainable content to talk about will be.

I'll explain what my hypothesis and goal for this at the end of September, once I get an idea on how many people would/could be down for this. And I thank everyone in advance, even if it's just for reading this.

Hahaha. Good point.

Although...Your mother's birth name...Beautiful! Seriously. And Christine Marie Demaria...call me weird, but I think that sounds REALLY pretty as well.

I think first immediate good that would come with my taking the husband's name is...with my last name being "Babe" It's VERY difficult to use on the internet at times...for instance...with the exception of running an experiment on facebook, years after the initial issue, it was easier to go by my middle name all the time "Kate" (Well, actually I have a double name, EleanorCatherine = Ellie-Kate = Kate. Was never given an official middle name. I looked for one. Hard. My mom's just dumb.)

I have to get any school I attend to use "Kate" as my first name, because when they use my full name, or do that E-mail address most schools seem to do, where they use your first initial and your last name, it never failed for my inbox to be overflowing with porn shit, somehow breaking through the "security" of these schools, and going to the address eBabe@whatever.com. (That and I've had some problems with hackers a while back. In my first year of high school, right before I joined here actually, our computers had to be shut down at the school and they had to re-do the security system, and actually just exclude the first part of my name for a while. It was that bad...)

Two points...taking a new last name would make most of tha shit go away, haha. And another, because I bring this up to cover the feminist angle as well...my sister, knowing all of this, STILL swears that I'm disgracing the idea of women being independant. And somehow, gets others to side with her and get them on my case about it. Because apparently there are NO exceptions.

So, if there are any feminits, or I'm just asking you, intelligent people of this place, is there a line? I mean, can you still take another name, and rally that women are worth being treated as equals and not as property?

Snce people seem to jumble FF into the anime crowd...this was from a few years ago, but...

For those who don't know, that dude is Xeios.

But I've since worked on perfecting the costume. Every year I say to myself that I plan on going to Otakon...and every year I fail to do so...but...I'm going to go eventually...so...yeah.

My secret obsession is that I like this kind of stuff more than I admit. Anime, video games, just general shit like this...although when I do admit it, well...then I feel like I don't fit in because I apparently don't like it NEARLY as much as others.

But, DBZ and Sailor Moon will ALWAYS be special to me.
