Has anybody besides me seen this? It was made by the same guy who made Kiki's Delivery service, Steamboy, Castle In The Sky, Spirited Away and all those really good movies. It was on cartoon Network a month or 2 ago. It was really good and i almost made me cry. Little baby..... And if you havn't seen it, get on whatever shareware program you have and d/l it!

Disclaimer:
I do not advocate shareware and/or piracy in anyway. Stealing movies, music, etc. is wrong. Do so at your own risk.

Hehe, don't wanna get this board in trouble from "they" You know, the people who scan the web sites and look for people to prosecute for the hell of it to give the public an example and the media some ratings? Anyway, you can't get this oard and me in trouble now! I have a disclaimer!!!!! >D

Honestly, he did not do steam boy. That was the same maker of some other anime. Dammit I forgot the name. It had Tetsuo in it that's all I remember. Miyazaki did a lot of films. And I appreciate his work. Spirited Away happens to be my favorite. Howl's Moving Castle's another one too. So yeah I think his grandson or nephew is taking over his job. Don't rmemeber much on the news for that one though.

It's "My Neighbor Totoro", and yes. I have it in a Miyasaki collection I imported from Japan a few years ago. When Disney picked up on the license, I was eager to purchase the collection, but decided not to just yet. Maybe just to replace my faulty DVDs in the collection.

Much like everything Miyasaki being released in the US, it's great, but it's old. This isn't new, really.

Remember Princess Mononoke? That's his as well.

There was also a twenty-minute sequel to となりのトトロ,tonari no totoro (My Neighbour Totoro), called めいとこねこバス, Mei to Konekobasu (Mei and the Kittenbus), that was never broadcast nor released on video (at the time). The only showing outside of Japan was to John Lasseter from Pixar to commemorate the launch of Spirited Away.

It's "ytmnd". The abbreviation of "You're the man now, dog".

It's such a wonderful site.

I love the nekobasu. I saw a full cosplay of the bus once online.

A lot of the things by Miyazaki are, at the moment, the only tolerable anime in my opinion. I first saw Kiki's Delivery Service, and then my cousin and I rented "My Neighbor Totoro" and it blew my mind. My ten year old's mind. What I mean to say is that you're right about it being old, but its definetly one of those movies that's become timeless. I noticed that in a lot of his movies it is hard to tell what time period they are set in; thats hard to do with a story I think. Thats one of the many qualities in his films that makes them so good... but look at me, overanalyzing this... its a cartoon! Its wonderful! That's it!

And it's "You're the man now, dog." Wuhahahahha (Hey! Where did the devil emoticon go??)

That was the famed "best anime ever", Akira. And it was really good

The theme song to My Neighbor Totoro was unbelievably catchy. I liked it. ....When I first heard it, I was like "I gotta sit through this stupid song?" Then a few seconds later I was "Holy shyt...this song is awsome!!!!"

I was about to say, Steamboy was done by Katsuhiro Otomo.

You're thinking of Miyazaki Hayao, who did Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, the Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, and Laputa among many other things including episodes of Lupin III.

Katsuhiro Otomo directed both Akira and Steamboy.

Master Naruto--your concept of what shareware is is skewed. I don't know what you think it is, but shareware and freeware are perfectly legal. You are thinking of warez, which is illegal. Shareware and freeware are protected under GNU licenses and similar laws and standards, and are often what helps early programmers and developers find their "niche".

Again, do the research somewhere, and it stops you people from looking like an ass. The internet is this vast field of information...

Freeware, like ZoneAlarm, AIM, Trillian and other software is legal. Shareware, or trial-period software, such as ZoneAlarm Pro and some other software is legal. Just had to throw that out there, mostly to make you look stupid, and me look like the same ass I always am.

And, why would you toss in that disclaimer? This isn't an illegal discussion of movies that have been legally released years before way overseas. While we still have our freedom of speech, it isn't illegal to discuss anything about movies. I may buy bootlegs now and then, and I may import legal copies of DVDs from Japan, but I do nothing illegal. Or, I may, but I don't care. And, if you realize it, every single DVD we buy is a copy of the master used to burn it.

You were trying to seem smart again, weren't you?

Whoa. There's a lot of miscommunication in this thread.

Let's just straighten this out since it seems there's very little reading what was said above:

Katsuhiro Otomo directed Steamboy and Akira. (Saw Steamboy before it was supposed to come out... there was an ungodly amount of hype connecting the two movies together when one has NOTHING to do with the other.)

Hayao Miyazaki did My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, "Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, the Cat Returns, Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, and Laputa among many other things including episodes of Lupin III."

OK?

Anyway, on topic, My Neighbor Totoro is cute and a landmark in anime. I saw it when I was a kid and loved it.

What I always like seeing is at conventions, they'll have a display of this quilt of all of Miyakai's notable characters hanging out together in meadow/forest on a large, elaborately stitched splash panel.

Totoro is always the most prominent on it.

I have a small version of the larger Totoro hanging in my window. He came with the Miyasaki boxed set. Totoro is so awesome. If I didn't already have a giant Stitch plush, I'd have a giant Totoro. Just have to find it. But, not getting it now!

Woah, Katsuhiro directed Steamboy? o.O I saw no similarities of characters in that movie... unlike that one show that comes on Toonami now, the one with the kid and the golden bat....Jeez what was that anime called? PARANOIA AGENT THATS IT!

But yeah, I rented it, and somewhat liked it...I diddnt understand 80% of the movie...but ah well...

Edit- Pertaining to the slash: I kinda understand that the character drawings are not up to the director, but I guess I kinda ment that in my own way, so kinda, you know, scratch that out you guys....

OMG...that movie is like...the cutest friggin thing I have ever seen in my life. It didn't make me cry, but it did however leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It was absolutely...m-azing.

The reason why Miyazaki's pictures come out with the same characters (and most other directors don't) is because he's the lead animator as well. *sighs* Now I wanna go an watch a Miyazaki film. XD

Hayao Miyazaki is genius. I luv all of his movies. I own a japanese Studio Ghibli Collection. It has Princess Mononoke(Miyazaki), Laputa(castle in the sky) by Miyazaki,My Neighbor Totoro(Miyazaki), and Kiki's Delivery service. One of the saddest anime's ever is on it also. It is called Grave of The Fireflies. Japans perspective of 2 young boys in the aftermath of World War 2. If u havent seen it i reccomend going down to a movie place and renting it NOW. Nausicaa and The Valley of The Wind is another on this 6 disc 2 movies per Box set. Howl's Moving Castle is not of it because it is fairly old. One of the funniest and saddest in the boxset is Hisen Tanuki Wars, or in english Pom Poko. the story of Racoon and Fox families in Japan over the years of construction. All of these i reccomend u try and get your hands on to watch.
