I'm sure all of you have heard the rumours of "Firefox loads faster than IE" and the like. Well guess what, you are wrong. There is a site that deals with these myths and tests them.

The Myths and the Reality.

If you still think Firefox is the ultimate browser that can do anything. Go crawl under a rock.

:: Crawls under a rock ::

Even so, it helps with my coding on Japanese porn Anime sites...

And who the hell said it loads faster? It all depends on how fast your connection is...Duh...

I dont like IE cause 65% of the sites I went to while using it messes up and "Error message*" pops up, with Firefox, That hasnt happened to me once...

I do Like opera better however...I use that on one message board that I go to

Syntax.. You poor soul.

We both know each and every one of those claims can be refuted time and time again.

Why is IE faster on WINDOWS? It's built into the OS. That's also why it's one of the most insecure pieces of software on computers today.

I think anyone who takes this as fact has to be Microsoft fanboy with their heads up their ass.

Now, I don't think Firefox can do everything. It can't. I still have IE for the simple fact that 89% of the world operates on Microsoft standards, and doesn't build things for other browsers.

And, I'd have to agree with Jin. There are reasons why more things happen to Windows PCs. They are integrated environments. After Win98, Microsoft started integrating IE directly into the Windows shell, that's why it runs faster (even though it doesn't on any of my PCs). I smell a Microsoft Fanboy in the works...

On another note, almost all of our proprietary software at work functions better running through Firefox than it does through IE. I mean, without Mozilla, there would be no IE. Mozilla started the internet browsers back in the day...it was the first browser ever. Now, it's just one of many, and one of the better ones out there. Quit knocking something because you're a Windows/Microsoft/IE fanboy.

Also, consider this: the site you present is obviously a personal site run by some who-ha somewhere. It's not even from a credible source. Were this presented by a non-partisan committee across several credible and respected sources over the internet, in print, and otherwise, then I might have something to refute my alliance to Firefox. But, this site just doesn't cut it.

You wrote the site, didn't you?

Actually Zabuza, The first web browser was on the NeXT computer and was called.. are you ready for it? World Wide Web!

And you make an interesting point about Microsoft's own products working BETTER with Firefox. They intentionally cripple their live.com if it identifies as a browser that's NOT IE.

But if you set your browser to identify as IE, It works BETTER than IE itself!

You just contradicted yourself! Obviously, the industry is going to respect dutiful Microsoft and Internet Exploder. You can't trust any corporate chain to execute a study on Firefox. Yes, Firefox is incompatible with many websites. So what? Just keep both on your system.

I don't use Opera because it doesn't work with all webpages. And, I can't tweak it the way I can Firefox. I still use IE because school needs it for online courses. And, its the only way I can pay for my car insurance. But, those are the only two reasons that I have for keeping IE on my computer at home. At work, I only use IE for Yahoo! Launchcast. Our software is designed to work with Firefox. Therefore, Opera sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. But I don't like the interface. It feels too cluttered in Opera. And, IE is too static.

Clean and simple, Firefox. You still can't believe claims made by Comcast. Advertising is advertising. At some point down the line, someone is paying someone else to sell you their crap...even if it is free to download. This includes Firefox and Opera. You can't take a claim like this as fact.

I'm sorry to break this to you, as you seem to have forgotten, but not everything you read online is fact. There are things that are made up. That's why, you have to find consistency amongst a variety of supporting and opposing sources to make up your own mind and view on anything. Or, you can go the lazy and ignorant route and do what you did, and then get your ass handed to you by the bitter ex-hacker.

Take a look at my Pay-to Play and the Tiered Internet thread in the tech discussion of this forum to see why they are also not a credible source of information.

If internet explorer was somehow proven to be a bit faster than firefox (Which will never happen) I'd rather use a browser that is a bit slower but in the long run has less security exploits, cleaner user interface, lots of options of customizability, and doesn't have the word microsoft/windows on it.

This is retarded. Stuff like loading time and the like are computer dependant. Firefox loads faster than Opera on my computer. Geez.

I've never seen Firefox fuck up as much as IE did.

The part about Opera having no unpatched holes is plain wrong. I'm pretty sure there are alot of unknown holes.

Of course, the part about it (firefox) being more secure because it's not integrated in the OS is true (it doesn't change much). But IE having ActiveX on by default is stupid (of course, I remember that there were some holes because IE was integrated in the OS). The part talking about ActiveX on that website is bullshit.

Also, memory leak? Never happened to me.

Reality - Internet Explorer 6 supports Tabbed Browsing when used with the MSN Toolbar extension in Windows XP.
MSN Toolbar is crap. Not to mention that FF supports it natively for retarded people.

Internet Explorer has very good support (81-86%)
I'm pretty sure that alot of browsers have more. The guy seems to say nothing about Opera in this one. Opera doesn't have 100% support (I've seen things not working).

---

All this to say that ANY broswers have their flaws.

Oh and IMO: Firefox's look > Opera's and IE'S

---

And the thing about fanboys at the end, is out of place. Because he seems to think that Opera is the best browser and stuff and that it has no flaws (he only admitted one).

---

He does make some good points, but seriously, you can't expect a program to act the same way on each computers (loading times and all. Firefox loads faster than IE or Opera on my computer).

---

Oh, and what interested me the most is the Diskeeper stuff on the left side. Because Diskeeper is the shit.

Oh, and the fanboy shit was directed at Syntax, not at the creator of the website.

That interested me too, but do you use it? And what version would you recommend (probably the most expensive) if you have it?

Also, that shit about requirements, if your PC is running at 64 MB of RAM, its about time you head to Circuit City and buy yourself a 128 stick of memory for your slot and get your PC a damn makeover...That or pawn your PC for about 20$ and not use it at all, its shit...

THen go get yourself 200$ like I did and build yourself a bad ass one...Meanwhile getting whatever the fuck Internet Browser with support clips to attach to it, and quit bitching on how bad the internet browsers run on Dial up...

If your internet is slow, thats your problem....get DSL

If your internet gets a virus because internet...Thats your problem...Quit fucking going to porn sites and get a damn firewall or something...

If your Internet browser fucks up SOMEHOW, get another IB...your problem, prolly downloading useless bullshit that claims to update your computer and dosent...

If theres something that I missed here that was an open problem with FF, its going to be YOUR FAULT...

Probably the main reason why I like MFF so much more than other browsers.

Really, the browser arguement has aged ...

It's simple. I prefer Firefox because it's nice, clean, simple look, and it's plugins and easy to use functions, settings, and it's ability to block popups far greater than any other browser I've ever used, and whatnot is great. (I'd also say tabs, but I'd be willing to bet someone would counter with "IE7 has tabs too!")

Speed, loading, whatever, is not something that bothers me. Heck, I use DSL that's supposedly 100x slower than Cable (sarcasm, but I'm sure you've all seen the commercials), but when I click on any page anywhere, in seconds I'm on the site and browsing and it's fast enough for me to be happy.

You are mistaken, yet again. The first web server (httpd) was on the NeXtCube computer system. And while the first browser was composed by Berners-Lee on this system as well as the first web server and web editor, the first publicly available, multimedia capable, graphical user interface, and most popular browser was an early version of the current Mozilla-based FireFox and Netscape Navigator.

It was also one of the few browsers that ran on UNIX/Linux, Windows, Mac, and DOS at the time. And, one of the few companies that openly released its source code, hence helping start the open source movement. However, in the early days of Mosaic, "...despite persistent rumors to the contrary, however, Mosaic was never released as open source software during its brief reign as a major browser; there were always constraints on permissible uses without payment." The grandfather to FireFox was king before Microsoft dethroned it around the mid-90s.

After graduation, Andreessen and Jim Clark, former CEO of Silicon Graphics met and formed Mosaic Communications Corporation to develop the Mosaic browser commercially. The company and the browser changed name to Netscape in April 1994, and was developed further as Netscape Navigator.

Also, it was the foundation of IE:

So, Mosaic started the whole browser revolutions back in the day, and is still credited as the first publicly available, most-advanced for its time browser. Not, WorldWideWeb.

Huh, then I guess the author of this is mistaken?

As you can see.. WWW was developed in 1990 and Mosiac was developed in 1992.

Yeah, if you were paying attention, I did credit WWW. It was the first browser ever. However, it was the first publicly available, somewhat free, mass utilized, predecesor to IE and FireFox. Mosaic was, and it was made by creators of Mozilla and FireFox.

So, pay attention to what I type...

Don't play cute with me, boy.

What the hell were we talking about?

Oh, yes. Firefox is awesome. Quit badmouthing the browser because you like Opera. To each their own, I say. And sometimes, we're forced to use IE. Why are there so many fingerprints on my monitor?
