For your computing needs take a gander at TigerDirect.com and Newegg.com
As for your specs, I haven't thought anything of them (Last edited by HoboConductor on 08-17-05 03:10 PM) |

I'd say you're computer is above average, good, but not spectacular. What exactly do you want to do with it, or, did you just want to show off your specs here?
You should look around for ATI's Radeon 9800. By now, I'm sure it's gone down to at the most around $150, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were much cheaper. It's a higher end graphics card, but it's got nothing on GeForce's 6800 Ultra. I have a GeForce FX 5200. Got it about a year and a half ago for $60. It can play Halo PC at max (not single player though ...), but I doupt it would be able to handle Doom 3, or Half-Life 2 very well. So, if you're just looking for a decent card, I'm sure you can find the 5200 extremely cheap now. (Last edited by Xeolord on 08-17-05 10:36 PM) |

Ati Radeon 9800 is outdated, don't buy, you can get a 9600 for less and does the same job. Now This Is much BETTER | |||

Originally posted by HoboConductor Yeah, I'm just really not in touch with graphic card news, so yeah I'd highly recommend this card also. Great price, and from what I hear, nVidia is much more stable and better with updates compared to ATi |

Your processor would be fast enough if it were an AMD device of the same speed, but its an intel and has longer pipelines, so you'll either need to overclock the crap out of it or replace it. 3.2GHz is the minimum speed I would recommend for a gaming machine these days. I've never even heard of your videocard, but it's obviously crap since it doesn't even support shader model 1. I don't see how you could end up with 959MB of RAM, but that's still good enough, assuming it's at at least 400MHz with timings of 2.5-3-3-7 or better. If I were you, I'd just sell your computer to some idiot on ebay for as much as you can and putt that money and whatevert you've got towards a new computer. Right now the best value would be something like this:
CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Core - $200 with the XP-90 heatsink for $50 VGA: GeForce 6800XT (Actually exists) - $175 RAM: 2x512MB PC3200 CAS 2.5 - $100 HDD: 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer SATA150 - $100 ODD: 48xCD-RW/16xDVD-ROM - $25 FDD: 1.44MB 3.5" - $10 PSU: 450W+ with dual 12V and active PFC - $50 Motherboard: SLI support, gigabit ethernet, and 7.1 audio. - $125 Total: Just over $1000 with SLI. Just use your old monitor, case, speakers, keyboard, mouse, etc. until you can find something you like. Make sure to add another 6800XT later for SLI. And these prices are only approximate, I would recommend buying from newegg.com even though they charge CA sales tax. As for your current comp, try running SiSoftware's Sandra Lite's (free) benchmarks and then compare them to some other parts that have preloaded values. |

Wow, his system is like... just...Wow... It should be in a museum or something... Even E-Machines come with Pentium 4 2.80 GHZ, atleast a 128 vid card, 80 gigs of ram, etc.. If you want to get up and running, I suggest you get the most top of the line E-Machine and build from there. My machine could run Half Life 2, but I need my dads Geforce 4 card in my computer to play it... Im thinking of taking out my 256 and putting in a 512, then upping my memory with an extra 100 gigs, just so I have room for all my stuff ... And If I get really rich, I will get a terra byte of ram, just to say I got one!! (Last edited by Jedi Master Desroth on 09-22-05 12:42 AM) |
