I've heard just about everyone complain about dubbing... Personally I've never really heard any bad dubbing... it's just different... It's not like they can really keep the voices the same... so I watch it... and I don't have a problem with it... what do you think?

If you haven't heard bad dubbing:

A) You haven't watched many dubbed anime.

B) You haven't watched many subbed anime.

C) You're lucky.

Inuyasha's voice makes my ears bleed. Anything that 4kids licensed makes my soul ache.

I don't hate all dubs....just 97% of them. Cowboy Bebop, Dragonball Z (to a certain extent), Gundam Wing. They have tolerable/likeable dubs that I can actually manage to bear.

Gundam Seed had a decent dub (seriously, sometimes the sub was worse in some ways). But aside from that..... I hate them.

I'll tell you what though, the one anime were the dubbing is better than the original is Ranma. I've heard subbing fans praise the dubbing of Ranma.

Trigun is the only exception. Honestly, I liked Trigun's dub over it's sub.

Other than that, dubs should die.

I'm surprised Jexim, that you haven't heard a bad dub. That, or maybe you just haven't seen anything good beyond your obsession with Eva? ...

Crest of the Stars is a good example of a great series with one of the worst dubbing jobs ever. Characters sound like robots, and they show no emotion whatsoever, it completely ruins the show. Most older animes are like that from what I've seen.

Good dubs out there would be any Miyazaki film, since Disney licenses them, they usually get big time actors (and not Spike's voice!) to do the voicing, and unlike a lot of anime you can tell they actually "try".

But now I almost refuse to watch an anime dubbed, unless I'm forced to like seeing an anime at a theater (Howls Moving Castle).

Dubs - Die.

Another complaint of mine, is WHO they pick for dubs. It gets so old hearing the same 10 people in every single dubbed anime out there, seriously, if you see a lot of licensed anime, I'm sure you can notice quickly.

I agree, Trigun's dub ain't half bad.

Full Metal Alchemist and Getbackers (Two of my favorite anime) are disgraced with the dub voices.

I don't remember if I liked Samurai Champloo's or not.

I haven't seen much of FMA, so bare with me on this ...
But, the kid who did the voice of the character in the suit, was apparently someone completely new, it was his first voice over. And Ed sounded like a 40 year old man. Ugh ...

I personally couldn't stand Samurai Champloo's dub, again because I'm a bitch about hearing Spike in every anime these days, but I also thought Jin's voice over didn't fit at all either, and the girl's didn't fit well either.

(to continue on the subject of same voices actors) English voice actors don't change their voices when they're acting in different animes. While japanese voices actors, I'd say the same person making the voices in two animes, and don't sound the same, at all.

Lucky because I can enjoy them both without problem... I've seen the entire Inuyasha series in Japanese... and the first half in English... and I seriously have no prefrence either way... it's all just a little different... not bad or good... just different and i don't see why so many people have a problem with dubbings...

" i don't see why so many people have a problem with dubbings..."

Some people have problems with them because most of the time the voices doesn't fit the original characters.

That, and the level of effort between US voice actors and Japanese is huge.

Trust me, I used to watch nothing but dubs too. But all I've watched over the last year is subs, and whenever I go back to watch a dub, I have to keep myself interested, because the lack of the voice fitting the character, the lack of mixing it up a bit with the same voice actors, and the lack of enthusiasm shown in american voice acting is poor, I just lose interest.

I don't watch nothing but Dubs... i watch baisically an even mix of Dub and Sub and i have never seen a time where the "voice doesn't match the original character" and there is nothing about effort in it... These voice actors put more effort into their job than most of our big name actors do their movies... so don't talk about effort... I've seen these people at work... and I don't mean on DVD extra's...

Like most of the people here, I don't like dubs. I used to not care, but there are just some series that I have watched were the sub is SO much better! I'll watch a dubbed anime, don't get me wrong, but I prefer subbed.

Also, in a lot of cases, you get a more accurate translation with the subtitles than with dubbing.

I'm pretty much along with Elara on this one. I'll watch dubbed anime, but generally prefer subbed. I've yet to see decent dubbed, then again, I have a lot of anime to catch up on.

The few dubbings I really hate happen to be Gravitation, Sailor Moon, what ever falls in the lines of putting voices there and not explaining the meaning.

On Sailor Moon the would say Rini's in love and Serena would pop up with a gold fish.

Love in Japan sounds like Koi so that's what they meant. It took me awhile to get that.

What makes things funny is that they changed the names so that Americans wouldn't have to go "huh?"

Edit: To be honest the master peice dubs happen to be the Studio Ghibli works.

Ok... I'll agree with Elara... A lot can be lost in translation... I to... Prefer natural Japanese... and to be fair there are a couple of really bad dubs... *COUGH* Escaflowne on the WB *COUGH* But I'm sick and tired of people complaining about the perfectly good ones... such as Inuyasha... I have heard so many people complain about that one that it's just not even funny... there is nothing wrong with it... Ya... the voices are different... but not as much as every one says... believe me... i've tested it... and they are actually fairly close...

The point that you went out of your way to tell us that Inuyasha's voice is normal shows the depth of your dubbed knowledge. I'm not attacking you, so don't get offended. But it seems that you're giving yourself a little to much credit. Inuyasha's voice is renound for how terrible it is.

But there is nothing wrong with it... I've watched it many times and had no problem... and I have plenty of dubbing knowledge... I've seen almost all of my anime's in both in English and Japanese... And I've found very FEW bad Dubs... give me one reason Inuyasha is bad...

I was talking about how the dubbing is terrible. Not the show. Saying its a bad dub speaks for itself.

But if you must, i'll spell it out for you:
Inuyasha's voice is irritating and not very convincing.
