A woman is in a persistent vegetative state. She has been for 15 years, and will not recover.

There have been rumors that her husband beat her, and that is the reason for her problem. This has been investigated, and there is no evidence.

Some say she can smile when she sees her parents, and she can follow motion. Others say that she's always smiling, and that most of the time she didn't trace the movement with her eyes.

Now, the question is, should she be allowed to die? Think about it, what would you want them to do if you were in her position, Would you want to die? I first thought we should let her die. I only heard one side of the story. But today, after seeing her reactions, I am undecided.

What do all of you think?

I'm gonna have to say undecided, because if i was in ever such a state, I would like to peacefully die so I wouldn't have to go through all that.

For her, she might have a different opinion. If it was my daughter, I would certertaintly have her go in a peaceful way.

I just recently veiwed this. She's alive, and could improve with medical attention. She should not die.

I personally would want someone to pull the plug if I were in that position. I hate relying on someone else for EVERY single little thing. Let alone, you would lose all sense of dignity.

lets put it this way:

If she's perminantly stuck like that, and no way of living, then they probably should pull the plug.

If theres a chance she could recover, then someone better pull their head outa their ass, and help the girl.

that's my 2 cents.

I believe with all my heart the husband is doing what's best. And the government should keep out of personal matters like this.

Where is this kind of uproar over the death penalty?

She's brain dead because of a chemical imbalance in her brain that happened after some other medical ordeal, I forgot what exactly. She can breath on her own, but she needs a feeding tube to keep her alive. Her husband maintains that she said that she did not want to be kept alive artificially like that, her parents say that she could get better.

The issue, with me anyway, is that if they pull the feeding tube she will starve to death over the course of a week. That is a bad way to go, brain dead or not. So this is what I think:

Give the woman something the same stuff they give for leathal injection so she goes fast and painlessly, and let the poor woman die already. This is just turning into a poltical circus as it is, and that is just wrong. Let her die.

I heard (don't take my word from this, it's just what I heard) that she wanted to have to plug pulled if she ever became like that. Don't know if it's true or not.

I think she should pass on. Living like that, your pretty much not living anyway.

Let her die in peace.

Dear whatever it is I'm supposed to worship..

That is horrible, she shouldd have been dead long ago. They never should keep people like that alive. becaus: (I know this sounds heartless) She is taking up a hospital bed for someone who might recover.

She's not stopping someone else from getting a hospital bed. There are many free.

Now, about her wanting to die in this case, let's review a few facts:

The husband is living with someone else, with children, and he doesn't have the decency to divorce Terri even though he's with another woman. Why is this?

Because he got 1,000,000 dollars for her death. If he divorced her, he never would have gotten that.

After he has his million, he suddenly(After 15 years) remembers that she would have wanted to die in this situation! And how does he want he to die? In the way that costs almost no money. Just let her starve is what he wants so that he can spend his money!

______________________________

Now, I don't know about all of you, but I believe she could mostly recover. There was even talk of getting her to walk, but the husband forbids tests to see if they can. There is a way for her to do many other things, but the husband refuses to let her!

In my opinion, she should live until it is 100% certain that she couldn't recover.

Yes she may have children but life support is keeping her alive and that's it. Just unplug her and let her die. I swear it's best that way. Why? Because of the fact that all that's keeping Terry alive is life support. She's been on it for 15 years now. So she needs to get off it. Yes it's been known to help people out of vegetative state, but now it's keeping her in it. It's not working. Let go.

She's not exactly in a vegetative state. All she needs is food, and the husband won't try to let them teach her how to do that either.

The parents actually feed her liquids, and it is possible to teach her to eat. All the husband says is "No, she might choke." When she's going to die anyway.

There's your evidence right there. "No, she might choke" is evidence that he's got it out for Terri. She's been beaten by him maybe. But that's true evidence RIGHT THERE!

Actually there is no evidence that he beat her officially. Also, this isn't a new case, this battle has been going on for years. Gov. Jeb Bush had the tube inserted again last time it was removed by passing Terri's Law... but the Supreme Court of Florida ruled it unconstitutional and said that Bush had overstepped his authority (which he did... it seems that the republican party is using this tragedy as publicity, they even mentioned a memo from the party to the members saying it). Sad really.

Jon Stewart brought up an interesting point about that Elara, He mentioned how funny it was that the republican party is talking like they KNOW this woman.. when in reality they've never even MET her!

And aren't republicans supposed to support staying the fuck out of peole's lives? But ever since they took power of the house and senate they've been pushing their way of life on the nation.

Let's make something clear, there is a lot of evidence that she will recover. Others have.

Did we justify Dr. Kevorkian when he killed his sucidial patients, simply because they wanted to die?

My point is, life is tough. She can deal with it, and if she'd rather be dead, too bad. She should life life through.

Now for the question, why do you want to kill her? She doesn't do any harm, there is a large chance of a partial recovery, and you all should watch the videos I placed a link to.

Question to you, Vulkar: Would you want to live like she is? Having to rely on EVERYONE and a machine to live? She can't even die with dignity. She even said so herself that she doesn't want to live through a machine. Why is it everyone's business if someone doesn't want to live their life? Their life is theirs, it isn't yours. Get over it.

She was anorexic before she had a heart attack, and now is in a mentally disabled state because of it. Pulling out her feeding tube shouldn't bother her, considering she was anorexic to begin with.

Sure. Her husband wants the money out of it. But who wouldn't? He's not wanting to kill her for the money. He isn't some bounty hunter. After 15 years of that state... how can a person NOT move on? That is why he is married and has children.

No, but I would not want to be killed. This is a case of them believing in all or nothing. I'd take just part if that was all that's available.

Also, if that was true, how come it took 15 years for her husband to remember? And why won't he see if she can recover? He denies her tests for recovery, and is making a wrong choice in my opinion.

No one is 100% sure that she will not recover. And if you're not sure, do what will make the least harm of trouble.

I seem to remember the the docters took an oath to protect life, and never to take it unless all hope was lost. There is still hope, so she is worthy of living. These docters are being forced to break their oath, because the judge follows public opinion rather than what's right.

Uhh, Wether one believes the fact that she should live or die is really just a back burner to the real issue.

Government should stay the hell away from issues like this. End of story.

Just because some pro-life radical right neoconservative christian republicans decide they don't like that people are exercising their rights as americans they should make a law to stop it. WTF?

I agree that she should be allowed to die and the husband is doing what he feels is best, But I think removing the feeding tube isn't the right way to go. I agree with what Elara said about the same drugs used for lethal injection.

Yes doctors take an oathe to protect life, but they also take an oath to respect the beliefs and feelings of the patient. Which is why it's illegal to force a blood transplant on someone who NEEDS it to live if their religion forbids it.

The judge isn't following personal opinion Vulkar. He's following the LAW.

It didn't take 15 years for her husband to 'remember.' This has been an ongoing argument for the past 7 years. She hasn't recovered in 15 years, and doctors say that the chance of her recovering are extremely small.

Respect others' wishes. She didn't want to live through a machine. Let her go on to the afterlife, where she can be happy. Death is a large part of life.
