Woah, chill Elara. No one said it doesn't happen, and you're already getting jumpy about it. I almost got suspended for refusing to stand, but they didn't waste their time with a contract - they knew I'd probably just tear it up anyway. | |||

Sorry, it's just I know that someone would say it... either that or I'm just to used to posting on another board were if I say "this happened to me" I get flamed and called a liar.
Anywho, yeah... since it was either sign the contract or be suspended I signed it. |

The only times I really ever stood for the pledge was in my ROTC class in Highschool, and that was only because the Colonel for my first two years was one of the coolest guys I've ever met. I never put my hand over my heart or saluted or said the pledge, but in resptect to that man I would stand.
After he retired I never stood for the pledge in my other first period classes over my other years of highschool. Nobody ever had any problem with it either. I would sit quietly and they would stand and I wouldn't cause any problems so they left me alone. |

Originally posted by Pockets wow, what kind of HS allows a person to be a COL for more than one year. usually a COL is the BC, and that's usually a senior's position. O.o; and retire? i would guess that he graduated or something... O.o; wonder what kinda messed up RO program you had =/ |

I stood in HS for the pledge. I didn't say it, but I stood out of respect. And I would still stand even now. I respect everything that the flag, and country stands for. And for those who have died for it.
Look there is a lot of bad thing you can say about our country. (I say a good amount myself.) And there are those out there who will leave this country to someplace they feel is better. And that good for them. But I actually like it here. (Will now probably be flamed for this.) But this is getting off topic... The whole "under god" debate is rather sad to me. One three letter word causes so much stress, and fighting. And I don't know what's worse. Those who try to sue those who make there kids say it, or those who force the kids to say it. I didn't say the pledge of allegiance. But it wasn't because of "Under God." It was because of what it is. A vow to uphold our country. And as soon as I knew what it meant I stopped saying it. I figured I will decide what I will do when I was ready. I guess it could be a religious argument. The word "God" dose seem to have a religious ring to it doesn't it? :p Wars on religion have been going on for longer than any recorded history... I doubt that we will come to any sort of end to it any time soon. (There is an evolution question... If humans evolve. Why are we still fighting the same fight for the last 10,000 years?) But to me it's a little more simple. It's something some people say to reaffirm there patriotic spirit. It shouldn't be forced. It up the individual to decide how they stand. What it kind of boils down to is there are people out there with closed minds, but not closed mouths. (Last edited by GuardianOni on 03-10-05 04:31 AM) |

It sucks, it really does. In my school you don't have to stand up to say the pledge, yet my student teacher almost wrote me up for not doing it. I got into an arguement and told him that its my right as a United States citizen not to say it if I don't want to, not only that, but I had the police officer at our school tell me that if I didn't want to stand, I didn't have to. No one can make you stand for the pledge...and if they do they're wrong on their part.
Now for the "under god" part. That has not killed, hurt, harmed anyone so I don't see why its even an issue. People who are concerned with this really need to find a life and stop arguing over stupid bullshit like "under god" (note: I am not Christian, I'm Pagan. And this I mean no offence to anyone on the board). But honestly, when we have people in the world dying from starvation...why in the hell are we worrying about this trivial crap? |
