I watched the film Snatch (2000) it's a really good and funny film.
Immediately went joint second with Terminator 2 as my best films of all time.

Not even a big fan of films either.

Just watched the Al Pacino version of "The Merchant of Venice," after years of people telling me to see that one. Seems like I was most told to see it after Stitch and I went to a production in San Diego that was markedly antisemitic. It got to the point that people in the cast would thickly pour on the anti-Jewish sentiments and the audience we saw it with, comprised of 75% senior citizens, was quick to cry in agreement.

This version was pretty good, and even though Shylock was still shown as more of a villain, it was more out of his character and want of vengeance and not the fact that he's Jewish.

It also made me want to go back to Venice, more so.

I... I watched the frist two Sharknado movies, and I don't know what's worse, the fact that I decided, on my own to watch them alone while 100% sober...

Or the fact that I sort of enjoyed them...

I mean, they're 100% unrealistic, but they were also kind of funny in their own way, and they were definitely fun.

Finally sat down and watched Kenneth Branagh's "Henry V." I think I need to watch the two parts of "Henry IV" to explain some of the flashbacks of Harry drinking with Falstaff and such.

Saw Civil War and it was pretty good. I thought Spider Man was done very well... as for the rest... well... let's just say that I am curious how the next Avenger's movie is going to go.

Also... seriously, why can't people actually talk in these films? Seriously... communication, people! But then we wouldn't get giant fight scenes.

New extended trailer for Independence Day Resurgence

It looks legit awesomely super bad to me haha. I wonder how the first one holds up. I think my buddies and I might see this new one in theaters so I may try to rewatch the original sometime soon.

I think that the first one still holds up remarkably well. The use of practical effects was sufficient to make sure that you never really notice the CGI.

As for Civil War, I liked a lot of it. It was fun to watch, much more so than BvS, but I felt at the end like it was somehow... unfinished. Like it wasn't a complete movie. Seriously, nothing was really resolved except for Black Panther's story. It's like it introduced a ton of story arcs, but told us that we'll have to watch the sequels to see how they play out.

BvS... I felt like it had a lot of weaknesses, like how violent Batman got, and the Martha moment, but I actually really enjoyed it. Despite everything, I felt as though it told a good intense story. As for Lex Luthor, I felt like he was over the top, but that wasn't really a bad thing for me. He was fun to watch on screen, and he had a very strong memorable presence. I felt like he was crazy, but I could still see that genius inside of him.

Am I the only one that liked Brutal Batman?

Lex Luthor was dreadful to me though, super dreadful.

I'm so very behind in the super hero movies, and man do I just not care any more. My friend/co-worker kept telling me "Age of Apocalypse" was crap. Yeah, I sort of figured.

Finally sat down and watched "Far From the Madding Crowd," which was very much a chick flick that felt Jane Austen-y, but takes place well after the period in which she wrote. She was Romantic, this was Victorian. It's well-shot, but I just despised how the heroine kept going, "I'm independent and strong and I don't need a man," to two men who would have been GREAT husbands and jumps on the dick of the first douche who comes her way. All because he's a soldier in a red coat who can play with his sword and tells her there was someone else, prettier, that he was in love with and this causes her to jealously covet him more. Anyway, it all works out.

Also watched "Tale of Tales," which was a bit on the underrated side. I mean, it wasn't, "Holy shit, this is the greatest movie EVER!" but it definitely had A LOT going for it with costumes, scenery and effects. I've missed movies like this. Brings me back to the fantasy films of my childhood. Still, it's definitely not for kids.

The most hyped thing I watched recently was "The Lobster," which NPR and many other outlets kept pushing as the next great, unconventional love story. Pretty much it's a dystopian world where all the people are forced to couple and find someone to marry and constantly be around. If you fail to do this (or, say, you get divorced or your spouse dies), you're sent to "The Hotel" where it's compulsory that you couple with someone within 45 days or you are turned into the animal of your choosing. People who choose to evade this system go live in the forest and are known as Loners, who also have their own ridiculously strict rules that you are NEVER to form romantic attachments with anyone or face body mutilation. The explanation of this all makes it sound more badass than it all really is. It's like it was trying to be a Wes Anderson movie, but without that delightful whimsy.

Lastly, finally watched Stephen Chow's "The Mermaid." I love his earlier work. This one was still fine, but yeah, it wasn't another "Kung Fu Hustle." The story with this one is that the mer-people are pissed off with all the pollution and this absurdly strong sonar that's designed to scare away all marine life from this region, which in turn is causing them serious bodily harm. They send one of their own to pretend to be human, seduce the billionaire who "owns" the bay they live in, and kill him. Of course, they end up falling in love.

So yeah, I've been on a weird movie kick.

Went and saw "Warcraft" over the weekend. Wow ... it was baaaaaaaad.

The CG looked cool, but everything else? Even practical set pieces looked bad. Maybe many years ago before we had high definition it would have flown just fine, but it really took me out of it. They're showing all these really well-made orc characters and then the live actress/half-orc woman is dragged through the scene and doesn't match up with anything. It really took me out of it all. I mean, Bob Hoskins interacting with the cartoon characters in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" is much more seamless by comparison.

The story was OK most of the time, but it crumbled and just staggered to the end. It's difficult to pin-point where the climax is supposed to be. After what you thought was supposed to be the end of the movie, it kept going, worse so than "Return of the King."

I just... wow. Terrible.

I actually felt pretty much the opposite about Warcraft. There were some bad performances, but I really enjoyed the orc culture. Maybe it's because I haven't played WoW, but I felt like it was a pretty original and fun movie which was willing to be realistic with the characters. I came away really liking it.

We saw Independence Day this weekend. Tori liked it more than me, but I felt like it was a lot of action with a midling story.

I heard the spaceships are now so big they have their own gravitational pull which in turn picks up cities and drops them on others.

Yeah I think that's in the trailers haha.

Maybe Will Smith was right to turn it down.

I still kind of want to see it for Jeff Goldblum alone though.

Saw "Batman: The Killing Joke"

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was great hearing the actors from The Animated Series again... they will always be my favorites. I did take issue with one portion of the plot that they added in because it makes zero sense, but I would not say that it ruined the movie.

How does it stack against Under the Red Hood? I thought that one was really good.

Forgot to mention I saw "Star Trek Beyond" the day it came out. It was good. Probably only really likable if you're into the Trek films. It actually felt like I was watching one of the original crew films.

I thought Into Darkness was so bad it kind of scared me away from the rest of the JJ verse.

Really hopeful for the TV reboot.

This was absolutely dreadful. I was completely bored. Ultra serious, sterile paper thin characters, everyone whispered throughout the entire movie but I guess it didn't matter since the dialogue was atrocious. Sure, I got to see some cool Predator action again, but I could have rewatched the original and had 10x more fun.

I love the original but that's it. I am so happy Alien has finally once again broken free from this franchise and is doing its own thing again.

Goddamn masterpiece. This was incredible. Arnold even seemed more dangerous here than he does in Predator. This is the Arnold I love, pre-T2 Arnold where he slaughters everyone with no remorse. One man army near the end. Some of the greatest one liners ever. Stick around. And the music was amazing, I instantly knew it was the Aliens guy with that ONE sound effect I'm sure fans know I'm talking about who've seen this and Aliens haha.

Arnold is... kind of the bad guy? This was a different side of Arnold, kind of. He still kills everyone and the final shootout is fantastic. It hilariously felt like a Steven Segal movie and plot, but with Arnold. One of the best loadout/gearing up scenes ever. Amazing music here too.

This was a rewatch, haven't seen this one in years and man does it hold up awesomely. 1987 the year I was born, this is the 80's incarnate, a time capsule. It felt a lot like a precursor to Total Recall in ways too, had a vibe striking between that and Robocop for me. Maybe with some Mad Max Thunderdome and Demolition Man thrown in. What a blast.

Finally watched "Zootopia." Did not realize how true to our times it was going to be. It's still appropriate for kids, but it's definitely more for their parents and other adults watching. I mean, "Breaking Bad" references...
