Which sequels? I always kinda wanted to get some of those.

I also recommend Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies as an after read... I found it well done.

I had started into Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a few years ago, but dropped it because I hadn't officially read the original yet and I wanted to see just how much they changed Austen's prose. Silly, I know, but I've held myself to it all this time.

The sequels I got are called Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and Darcy and Elizabeth, apparently this author wrote a third sequel, which I might pick up depending on how good these other two are.

Finished Pride and Prejudice and immediately started Boethius' The Consolation of Philosophy.

I also randomly started reading Tuesdays With Morrie, which feels like the time I read The Bridges of Madison County. It's this thin book with large font, and it just feels like one of those bestsellers that's so sugary sweet everyone pushes it on you to read.

Fuck it... *Goes back to Boethius talking to Lady Philosophy while he awaits his torture at the hands of the Romans*

Read Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher's memoir regarding her family, drug, alcohol, and relationship issues. It was a very quick read (2 hours overall).

Also read the first Freshmen graphic novel, which has been in my collection for a few years now.

Still working on The Consolation of Philosophy, but only because I've been having to read that one in a text file and I haven't really been around my computer in a while.

Still not finished with The Consolation of Philosophy.

I've been distracted.

Also, I keep picking up other things to read.

Just started Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, which is a memoir about an American girl who traveled to Borneo and ended up in the harem of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. It's an interesting read thus far. The woman who wrote it is now married to the bassist from Weezer and they have an adopted son together.

Finished Some Girls: My Life in a Harem. It was blah.

I read Persepolis all the way through, finally.

I should really stop reading all these memoirs written by women who really just devolve into stories of drug addiction and depression.

Anyway, picked up a whole bunch of graphic novels at WonderCon, so I'l probably be working through that stack.

Finished Lysistrata in a day. It's short.

Also up-to-date on Ava's Demon.

Currently reading Joe Golem and the Drowning City, The Sun and the Moon: The Remarkable True Account of Hoaxers, Showmen, Dueling Journalists, and Lunar Man-Bats in Nineteenth Century New York, and a novella called The Venturer.

Read Sailor Twain: Or, the Mermaid in the Hudson.

It's all right, but the ending is fairly blah. I know people love these ambiguous endings, but with how many of them there are these days a lot of them feel like a cop-out -- as though the authors don't know how to end it, so they make it all the more strange just to keep you head-scratching.

Reading The Zookeeper's Wife, a biography on this Polish couple who saved hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust using their zoo. Not that far into it, but it's pretty decent thus far.

Really, I'm in the middle of 4 or 5 books right now. There's several I'm still working on in PDF form and on my shelf, but I've got so many that I need to finish before they're due back at the library.

Finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Hit-Girl: Prelude to Kick-Ass 2 and Kick-Ass 2 yesterday.

Since I'll probably go more into Kick-Ass in the movie thread, I'll go over Perfume a bit.

It was one of those books my sophomore honors English teacher was insisting I read, and frankly, with many of the things that happen in it, I'm surprised she was pushing this off on a 15-year-old. A good read, to be sure, originally written in German, about a man was an extraordinarily strong sense of smell -- to the point that he becomes entranced with girls who smell of innocence and wants to capture it for himself in a perfume.

It's not exactly the sort of book I would recommend to just anyone because it's a little on the abstract side when it comes to his olfactory obsessions, as though he's smelling people's souls.

I've got a few books out of the library now, but not sure which one to start. I took Drink: A Social History of America with me yesterday, but the first few pages were just so irritating to read as an American. The book is written by a British man, Andrew Barr, who's spent the intro just going, "This isn't an issue it Britain, but it is in America and therefore America is inferior."

The first page is mostly taken up by a footnote of him ranting about Americans calling indigenous people "Native Americans." He asserts that they should be called "Amerindians," and therefore calls them that for the rest of the book because (and this is an actual quote) "Amerindians generally do not object to being called Indians."

Now, one of my majors was American studies, and I do get that it's actually easier to study America from afar rather than being an American studying America in America. Americans seriously go to places like South Africa to study America. However, Barr's judgemental writing on Americans, as a subject of Queen Elizabeth II's, is like being a Muslim Irani citizen and hearing an American give a lecture on how backward they believe Persians are.

I may agree with him, for the most part (because, hell, I'd been thinking America's view of liquor was backwards this whole time), it's just, for a non-fiction book with a lot of opinion interjected, it's actually obnoxious just trying to read it for the information.

I'll power through it, but I'm telling you, it'd be easier to watch the guy from Dirty Jobs do his show for the History Channel, How Booze Built America.

Been going through a lot of graphic novels lately. Tearing through The Boys finally, after all these years of meaning to.

Read the latest released Usagi Yojimbo volume. Just finished Frank Miller's Hard Boiled and 300.

I am doing a ton of reading for my written comps. I've finished reading John Dewey's Experience & Education and Jerome Bruner's The Process of Education and have just started on Building a Bridge to the 18th Century by Neil Postman (he calls Plato a fascist within the first twenty pages... but it's interesting)... once I finish that I have Border Crossings by Henry Giroux and then I get to write a ten page paper of rambling! Joy!

Oh... and also been reading far more Dragon Age fanfiction than is probably healthy for me, but I don't care.

So... on that whole Amerindian thing... I've heard the phrase, and historians tend to use either or... but this whole notion of them thinking one term is better than the other is bullshit. Personally, I think that the term "Amerindian" is for writers who are too lazy to type out the words Native American.

Finished all four books. I'm still "eh" on Dewey and Giroux for their writing styles, but I loved all four books. Postman is awesome, even though he is SO biased and it shows (you thought the Plato thing was funny? You should hear him talk about Postmodernists)

I'm reading through 1984 by George Orwell, and Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.

Both great books to me.

Finished The Boys last week. Still upset with how the final volume went. It's the Red Wedding for Garth Ennis fans, but carried out far worse.

Been trying to work through The Unwritten and Sweet Tooth now. I'd started them when they were new, but now I'm playing catch-up with the latest graphic novel releases. Chew's next.

So yeah, read the last of Sweet Tooth, all of what's out in graphic novel form for The Unwritten and Chew and the first volume of Northlanders.

My most recent read was Jacques Tardi's "Goddamn This War!", translated from its original French. I've been really into his comics lately (unfortunately I've only been able to get one volume of his "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec"), especially his WWI pieces.
