I know it's not great, but for some reason I'm special ed proud of this. I mean, photography/photo-editing are not my fortes, though they're things I dabble in as journalistic necessities.
I've only recently started doing manipulations. This one was part of a piece I wrote on the woman archers we've got this year (http://www.geekarmada.com/2012/04/25/is-2012-the-year-of-the-woman-archer/): Tips for the future? |

It's really good but you can see the fog on Merida's dress near the bottom. Try lowering her a little to make it seem like they are in the same place.

Originally posted by Sorcha Rohan You're completely right about the fog. I'd thought about it, after posting of putting fog in front of Katniss so it wouldn't look so out of place. The issue with lowering Merida was that the source image was such that the top of her bow was cropped out of the picture: Maybe cropping the bottom? Just for the added comparison, here was the source image for Katniss: |

then add fog to the bottom of the picture or find a way to make it seem more misty. =P

Added some fog in front of Katniss and fixed Merida's hair a little.
EDIT: Here's another edit, but with fog all over the rest of the background: (Last edited by Rogue on 04-27-12 02:27 AM) |

I think it's pretty good. I like to do stuff like this myself sometime. The only challenge I see is that despite the angle which works pretty well, Merida still looks like she's kind of "on top" along with Katniss on the same plane, so together it looks slightly flat if that makes sense. I'm not sure how you'd go about making that improved though, maybe Katniss needs to pop out more to make Merida look more "behind", or Merida needs some more tooling.
Seriously I don't even know what I'd do about it, but yeah that's my observation. Other than that it's good stuff. |

No, I know exactly what you're talking about.
I had actually blurred Merida a little. She's not as sharp as in the source image. I thought about blurring her more so it would look more like a real photo and Katniss would be the only one "in focus," but since I was doing this for an article on both of them I didn't blur Merida as much and just kept them both relatively sharp. I really need to practice at this stuff more. |

And here's Phoenix, after he decided to throw out a challenge to Photoshop his face onto a Pokemon:

Originally posted by Rogue Yeeeaaaahhhhh....I'm soooo not guilty of that either. :p The pokemon is hilarious. I saw that on Facebook and almost died. As for Katniss and Merida...I like it. With the fog issue, I was wondering, because the one where you added the fog to both, AND around the background a little...is there any way the green in the background could be toned down? I'm not sure if I'm cool with suggesting this, because I love the vibrancy of the background...but with all the extra fog, half of the picture looks like they're in a place where it just rained, which, I actually think looks pretty cool. If the rest could be a little dimmer to make it look like it's a bit overcast? As for the rest....I don't think it looks flat. I mean, Merida DOES look flat, but it doesn't bother me. She's animated. It immediately makes sense, and actually makes the whole idea more charming to me. |

I am slowly seeing all of Xeogaming being Photoshopped at some point... I just saw Nelrarity on Facebook and about died. I'd say do me next, but I have no idea what to combine me with.

Thanks, everyone.
Just for the sake of keeping them all together. Here's Nelrarity: Thanks for the notes, Katana. I don't know where the PSD file is any more for the Katniss/Merida picture, but I see what you're saying about the vibrancy of the background. Other than blurring the hell out of it, I didn't really do anything with it in terms of adjusting the levels or color. Good things to keep in mind in future manips. No really big manipulations lately.
This picture of my grandmother is actually a composite: I took this shot of her eating her birthday cake, but the face was blurry. I took a different picture of her where her face was clearer and added it to the other. Really, I just tried to make it so it still looks like an average snapshot so it didn't look too overdone and like an obvious piece I cooked up in Photoshop. |

Interesting... it does look reworked a bit, but in a strange way. Like I can't really put my finger on it, lol. But it definitely looks good.

Here are the source images:
I'm still quite a novice at this. In the finished one, it makes her head looker bigger than it is. (Last edited by Rogue on 06-29-12 12:59 AM) |
