Troy Davis, who was convicted of murder twenty years ago was sentenced on death row. A few years ago, there was doubt of his murder and we all know that if there is doubt there is in fact a re-do on his trial. Starting from scratch, and working it's way around it.

NOT IN GEORGIA IT'S NOT!

Troy Davis was instead executed last night at 11:08 PM. No chances. He's dead.

Thanks Georgia. For reminding me that this place sucks so much ass.

I admit my ignorance, especially with how many people were freaking out about this on Facebook (mostly people who very likely looked it up on Wikipedia or what have you in the last 5 minutes and then getting angry to appear well-informed or what have you) last night.

I'm no fan of the death penalty, though there are some cases in which it seems just, but why is everyone so mad about this?

P.S. A guy was put to death in Texas around the same time, and NO ONE'S talking about that.

^^^ Yeah except he was dragging black people on the back of his truck killing people. Of course no one is talking about that! Good riddance to him!

Reason why people are so pissed off at the Troy Davis case is that there was a HUGE doubt of his murder. And there were numerous accounts saying that the police forced the jury to put him to death. Making this an unfair account on the justice system.

And I agree with you. It's just that most of the Facebook rage regarding the death penalty last night was off the opinion that there should be no death penalty at all.

My boyfriend explained it to me. Indeed, the man deserved a re-trial at the very least.

I don't know why the news I watch wasn't talking about this. I guess, because it's been back-logged with new information on the Kelly Thomas beating and cops getting charged with his murder.

The only time any man should kill another man is on Call of Duty or Unreal Tournament. The only time a white man should harm black man or vice versa is when two buddies are beating the crap out of one another in Mortal Kombat (or boxing or WWE).

I firmly believe that this applies toward the death penalty, though I believe that convictions of rape, murder, and hate crimes should be punishable by a slow torture, although that omits my the harm comment. Death begetting death is asinine under the circumstances that the man faced. Most people don't fear death, but fear pain enough to think twice before committing such atrocities. On the other hand, if there was irrefutable evidence that such acts were undertaken, I would warrant death.

I believe that the man deserved a fair trial, and that my ideal system would not work... but man, if I had a damn Death Note and knew without a doubt who did what...

I'm also really tired right now and can't concentrate on a single thought well enough for this post...

Georgia killed a man who deserved a re-trial.

But on the bright side at least he is free from this planet. That at least I am happy for.

One thing that my dad and I had a huge arguement on was the fact that he was "Put in Jail for a reason, and if I was on death row I would be saying I was innocent too". It was this he said minus the "Nigger" comments he added. But either way; he still deserved a retrial. And Lord only knows what he really did that night when the police officer was murdered.

But still. It will leave a sour taste in your mouth. "Nigger" or not. Georgia fucked up. Even the police messed up with evidence showing that they forced the judical audience to vote against him. Black or not. This was hands down something fucked up Georgia did.

Your dad actually used the N-word?

Sorry, it just blows me away when anyone under 60 uses it.

But yeah, I agree that this is pretty fucked up. In many ways I see the death penalty as a necessary evil, albeit a horribly misused one most of the time.... but this whole thing was wrong. If there is even a hint of doubt or of jury tampering there should have been a new trial. I hope there is an investigation into this, because it sounds like they got rid of him before there could BE a new trial.

Yeah, I'm actually curious if there's going to be an investigation. If everyone knew he was innocent, why did he have to get axed like that? I imagine that there was a lot more behind it than just simple injustice.

Call me crazy, but I get the feeling Troy was silenced for some reason. If he wasn't, then that's one of the most spectacular and disgusting organized hate crimes I have ever heard of.

I only hope that he can manage to find peace in spite of all this.
