One of the things I hate most about being unemployed for more than a week is the overwhelming boredom. There is no money coming in, therefore you have no funds to do things to make the boredom go away. Therefore I had an idea... what are some things that you do to get rid of boredom for little or no cost?

Other than spending all day on Facebook or posting on message boards, obviously.

I personally browse reddit, or just read on random stuff.

I really like to learn new things, though. So that might not be for everyone. I do believe the saying "knowledge is power", and that I'm acquiring power when I'm bored!

Else I just play StepMania.

Piracy.

Y'arrr.

But seriously, if you like games, there's a lot of free ones out there. Some are even pretty good.

That's perfect!

Since my consistent New Year's Resolution is try or at least learn new things every day, that's a great way to combat boredom.

Sadly, I haven't been that intuitive lately. In fact I've been running in the complete opposite, mind-rotting direction. I've been... playing Gaia Online again.

I'm actually incredibly ashamed about it, but the MMORPG they created since I was pressured into starting my account is kind of addictive.

Anyway, I've been borrowing my dad's car to go to the library to get DVDs and graphic novels, and when we can scrape together the money for gas or if we hitch a ride with a friend we go to whatever free things are going on on the weekend. Lately, it's been free Shakespeare in the park performances all over L.A. county and outdoor film screenings.

Being aware of the "grass is greener" notion, one in my position may normally proclaim "I wish I was bored! *insert slew of many MANY activities that take up time here*"

But for once I am not bitten by the grass is greener kinda notion. However...with elections kicking off in a few short months, I've taken to politics as a "boredom" killer. See, I was almost bored. I'm at a bit of a stalemate with my art shiza, caught between being too tired to put forth the effort to get the work done, and too poor to move to the next level. Art is dwindling to becoming a hobby of mine once again.

And thus, my mind has been kept very active, mine more than others, being as I'm only recently taking such an interest, so I have more to learn than several of my peers. But in any case, it would possibly benefit us all, Elara, should you join me in figuring shit out, bitching about it, and then finding ways to make the shit we hate better. Or keep what we like just as well. XD (Partial selfish agenda here. I've always been interested in what you've had to say in regards to this stuff. I watched the debate shrine like a hawk back in 2008.)

Yeah, I have been paying attention to the political stuff off and on... I don't think I am going to pay too much attention to the main event until the Republican circus is over and they actually have a candidate.

I still have to look into any potential state/local stuff.... which is fun since I've noticed that they are not very forthcoming on information, especially at the local level.

This is true, I have power now. Of course, it seems the vast majority of my neighbors are Republicans so who knows how much power I really have.

Either way, that's a new vote in the fearful FLOHPA.

I'm trying to ween myself off the Gaia boob and write Yelp reviews again. Something a bit more constructive in the long run.

I've been poor for like two years, so ...

- As Astrophel suggested, I have started pirating games. New Vegas sure was fun.
- Roms roms roms, hitting up a lot of games I've always wanted to play. In retrospect, I almost think it's awesome I don't buy very many new games anymore since I can't, because honestly there's still tons of older games I want to play and I'm having a blast going through older stuff more normally now. Sorry to be cliche', the old stuff is just better to me ... lol.
- Anime anime anime.
- Music music music.

Just start illegally downloading the world basically.

Thank you, Bitmap, I will keep that in mind. ROFL

Yeah, we've been keeping busy on the pirating end with all the new Pathfinder releases. It's gotten to the point that Ben and I are going to try adapting one of the campaigns for two players if we don't find a gaming group soon... going through fucking withdrawals here!

Teee heee hee hee.... FLOHPA.

I've been playing a lot online pool lately... through Gaia. But it's actually fun and the people I play with aren't immature assholes. Excluding the kid who kept writing "yu suk" and "fuc k u" in the chat when I kept beating him (Gaia monitors the chats for swearing), everyone else is really nice, polite, and good sports.

Otherwise editing photos I haven't gotten to from trips this past year and other things we've gone to.

But here's how bored and lazy I am. I got FREE tickets to see this band I like on the Sunset Strip, at the the Key Club, and I'd rather sit at home and do nothing tonight. Seriously. My lethargy has reached critical mass.

Well, at least there's our geek party at the Observatory tomorrow and the free day at the new dino exhibit on Tuesday.

Online pool ... sounds terrible community wise and everything haha, but I guess if you found a good group to play with that's cool.

I'm the same way about "events" and just wanting to stay home instead sometime. Same with one of my other friends, apparently instead of board game this night Thursday... it became Fantasy Football night. My friends suckered me into it and I signed up, but I really can't express how uninterested I am in the whole thing overall, oh man, lmao. So my other friend who didn't sign up either was a little irked too, so we just stayed home and I played games and the usual stuff. I do firmly believe I personally had a lot more fun than setting up a roster on Fantasy Football or something.

I just told my friends to randomize my team. I just don't care at all about it, plus there's only 6 people in our league. Can it get anymore unexciting than that? ... lol.

Fantasy football? It's like someone took something from the Jock Domain and made it geeky, but in a sense that geeks would still not be entirely interested. No offense.

Yeah, I ended up going out with friends last night to play Apples to Apples (sort of a board game, but it's all cards) at a diner. I ended up pissed off because I ordered nachos for my boyfriend and myself and he ended up not getting any while the other friends, ate most of the platter without putting in any money. Yep. I'm so broke and bored, I'm angry about spending $15 at a place I didn't want to go in the first place.

I'm getting old. My trip can't come fast enough.

Worst part is I just found out the big reason one of my friends really got into it, is because of some TV series that's about ... Fantasy Football.

I wish that were a joke.

I think seeing something in movies or on TV is the main reason why most people pick up certain hobbies or learn anything about anything these days.

So it's sort of raining, off-and-on, and we were supposed to have a garage sale today at my grandmother's house. Yeah, that's not going to happen. At least, I doubt anyone will show up.

I'm still laying in bed with my laptop, since Brandon rarely gets up before 11 these days. Our cats are in bed with us this morning, and to stave off boredom I keep taking pictures of the cats and Brandon sleeping.

Well, problem is my friend that really got into this is such a fad person it's insane. Every week is a new thing for him. He almost spent thousands awhile back on turn tables and such, yeah his interest in that withered away the next week.

That's like a friend of mine who went paintballing once, bought like $3,000 in guns, equipment, gear, and all that crap and never went paintballing ever again.

The garage sale happened. It was just really, really sad. Since we didn't really open all of Lola's boxes and things, people were just going through them, upending them all over the place, breaking shit here and there, and then leaving without buying anything.

By the time I got there, the place was a mess and there was just one guy there, going through drawers in the garage.
