I searched the past 10 pages of this forum, so if there's already a thread on this, I apologize.
Anywho. I'm sure all of you have at least heard of the Lord of the Rings, and how there was a movie about it a few years ago. Well, now they're doing the Hobbit! The director from LotR, Peter Jackson, will be producing this time around. Official Facebook Page < rant > Now, there's a few things about the new movie that I have issue with. Beginning with the Dwarves. Now, there are thirteen Dwarves. According to Tolkien, Dwarves have beards. It's their thing. Even the women have beards. Dwarves NEVER shave. If a Dwarf's beard is shorn, (s)he can literally die of embarrassment. Which is why I don't approve of Kili's actor. I've never heard of Aiden Turner before, but he doesn't look like a Dwarf. He looks like he should play Legolas (who was NOT a blonde. Jus sayin'), not a Dwarf. He's too pretty, and he barely has a beard! If he's a Dwarf, he's a baby. I know Fili and Kili are supposed to be young, but seriously?! Another thing, is that I've heard that Viggo Mortensen may be reprising his Aragorn role. He was a very good Aragorn, IMO, but I really don't think he can pull off a 10 year old Aragorn. :/ < /rant > All in all, I'm really excited about this movie. I just hope they don't screw up a ton of stuff like in LotR. (Last edited by Twilight Sparkle on 07-15-11 03:19 AM) |

Honestly, it couldn't be any worse than the animated one with the purple Gollum... that was weird.
I agree that it is strange to see Kili with a short beard, but I am holding judgement til I see the movie. I mean, with Lord of the Rings I think that they did a good job adapting the books to film, even if it wasn't 100% to the book. Yeah, I was sad that Tom Bombadil was cut out and the whole Sharky thing didn't happen... but I still loved the films. I trust that The Hobbit will be the same. |

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I mean, when I first saw LotR I was amazed. If it weren't for that movie, I wouldn't be who I am now. It was a while before I got all snobby and decided it was horrible. XD
I'm sure the Hobbit will be just as amazing. |

Exactly. The books are always better than the films they become. Honestly I feel that the LotR films are still one of the best book-to-film adaptations that I have seen.
I mean, just look at how badly they adapted Harry Potter to film! Stuff cut, things altered so that it screws with later movies, it causes me no end of frustration. I even understand that the Twilight movies are a poor adaptation of the original books (at least in that case I can blame the source material). |

I maintain the stance that as a film, the LotR movies are the best film ever, but as an adaptation, they're butchery. XD
As for Harry Potter, I haven't seen one of those since the 4th one. They just disappointed me so badly. The books were amazing when I read them (nothing compared to Tolkien, of course), but the movies strayed so far from the original material, and were... ugh. I can't comment on Twilight, as I refuse to read/watch it. |

Originally posted by Twilight Sparkle I also refuse to read the Twilight books... but I have watched the movies with Rifftrax, which makes them the funniest things I've ever seen. I don't really know why I kept watching the films for Harry Potter... I suppose that I tried to separate them from the books but it proved to be too hard. The 5th one I feel was actually the best of the later ones... it was butchered beyond belief but the casting on Umbridge was perfect. The sixth one made me want to kill someone and the last two... well, I posted a thread about the most recent one. It was disappointing that they split it into two movies and didn't even seem to try to be more faithful to the book. |

I kinda like the idea of giving the youngest dwarves an eyecandy kind of feel. =P | |||

I find the lack of dwarf disturbing.
...and if I'm lying, may I cross a dwarf! |
