OK, so my dad got "Wild Wild West" for his birthday. Oddly enough I'd felt like watching it because of how steampunky it is.

I'd seen it a couple times when it came out in '04. I didn't think it was all that great then. It's still not all that great, BUT I appreciate some of the little things a little more.

Went and saw "The Warrior's Way" tonight. It was entertaining, but the excessive, obvious CG hurt it.

At the Asian media convention I went to last month, the producers said they wanted to film in the Badlands (Arizona/New Mexico area) but decided to just shoot it in New Zealand.

Being a lover of Arizona's terrain and sunsets and ghosttowns and such, and then seeing these green-screened backgrounds, it was kinda depressing.

To be perfectly honest I haven't seen a movie from.beginning to end in a while. I've got three kids. Interuptions abound. But... the most recent movie that comes to mind is District B13. Its a foriegn film (french) about a walled off gheto in france where crime basically rules. It stars David Belle, the creator of Parkour and heavily features amazing displays of parkour/free running.

Wonderful movie, amazing acrobaics by the two lead actors in the film. One of my favorites.

Saw Black Swan. Literally the most disgusting, terrifying movie I've ever seen, and most of it is psychological.

Natalie Portman gets the Oscar or I kill Sean Penn with a rusty switchblade.

Even if she wins it, can you do it anyway?

I recently bought a DVD copy of the 1999 version of The Mummy. I'd seen it in theaters a couple times when it came out, and owned it on VHS before a boyfriend borrowed it and didn't give it back.

I remembered loving that movie, and being blown away by the effects. I watch it now and pieces of it seem so cheesy -- like it's intentionally bad at times, playing off action/adventure movie cliches.

Don't get me wrong. It's still a very enjoyable film, especially if you grew up watching the Indiana Jones movies over and over and over again.

OK, so I borrowed "The Black Cauldron" from the library. Yep, it's definitely an animated fantasy from the '80s. It's soooooooo slow.

Come on, Disney. Seriously?

It's kind of funny, though, with how many gags and stylistic things were lifted out and used for later movies. Not shocked that this sort of thing scared Disney into ending their dark ages and beginning the Disney Renaissance.

In many senses the hairy guy is Gollum.

I do have to say, Eilonwy is pretty strong for a pre-Disney Renaissance princess. Unfortunately she's not well-known enough to be a part of the Disney's "princess mythology" which Andy Mooney cooked up in 2000 when he left Nike and came to Disney to launch the Princess franchise.

Have you ever read the book? I believe the series starts at 'The Book of Three', but I forget. I haven't read them for so long. The movie is horrible, though.

As for movies, I just saw "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "How to Train Your Dragon". Both were very good. The idea of sorcerer's in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is amazing. I wish science were that awesome.

"How to Train Your Dragon" had a shocking ending, but it was really good. Toothless has got to be one of favorite animated movie characters for a long time.

I've never read the books. I actually only found out that it was an adaptation when my boyfriend was looking up the movie on Wikipedia when we started watching it.

I just finished "Wall-E," which we also took out from the library as we hadn't seen it yet. Yeah, I definitely loved it much more than "Black Cauldron."

It's the simple things that make it much more enjoyable. You really don't need words to understand and feel.

For other Disney movies we haven't seen we still need to watch "Bolt," "Cars," and of course, "Tangled" and "Tron Legacy."

Tangled is well worth the watch. To be honest, I cried. Hahaha

It's has some dark undertones, but it's really a great movie. I think part of the end is dumb, but I'll explain that once you watch the movie.

Finally saw Ichi the Killer after I've heard so many rave reviews for it over the years.

Yeah, I don't see why it's so amazing. I mean, the violence is kinda intense, but it's that exaggerated Japanese action movie torture stuff. Think Kill Bill and Machine Girl with how blood shoots out of cuts like the unfortunate sap who got killed had a blood pressure of 500/240.

The story was a bit confusing, which sorta fits with Takashi Miike's style, I guess.

One of my best friends is in town for the week and we're seeing it together tonight.

To be honest, between the Dude's two movies that are out right now, I'm WAY, WAY, WAY EXCITED to get to see True Grit. I'm a sucker for westerns and the Dude in another Coen Brothers picture.

So I saw Tron Legacy last week, but I saw True Grit more recently.

Honestly, it's hard to pick which is better because both were quite good.

But to speak more on True Grit, if the Dude lived in the 1800s I could easily see him being Rooster Cogburn sleeping in a sunken in bed behind a Chinese grocery. Great movie.

If Hailee Steinfeld doesn't win anything for her performance as Mattie I will be severely disappointed.

Finally saw American Psycho.

It was pretty good, but the ending was a bit confusing. I can't believe Christian Bale was like 25 when that was made. God, he looks older.

I loved the ending! I just saw it as ...
Spoiler:
he lived and got away with it, which made it all the more scary and believable I guess.

Had no idea he was 25 though, wow.

Last new movie I saw was Big Trouble in Little China at a friends, wow talk about epic! ... lol

Since I'm over at Brandon's dad's house and his brother does nothing with his life other than play video games, we've been watching Netflix off the X-Box when he's asleep.

Last thing we saw was Tenure, starring Luke Wilson, Gretchen Mol, and others. It's not bad, but it got kinda slow in parts. It's pretty much the story of a university professor trying to get tenure, but has to compete with this new professor who's also up for it.

Nothing exciting, but it's amusing.

But it came out in 1999 or 2000.... I remember.

Saw "Date Night" and "The Other Guys" today... first one was much better in my opinion.

Whoa, what the hell was I thinking about when I wrote that.

Yeah, it was totally '99 when that came out. I remember the song coming out the same summer everyone was obsessively listening to "Livin' la Vida Loca."

I really don't know why I wrote '04.

Last movie we saw was Star Trek: Insurrection. My favorite Star Trek movie next to star Trek IV: Voyage Home.

Last night I picked up Galaxy Quest and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell at Wal-Mart for $5 each.

I've seen Galaxy Quest many times, but I'd never seen the other one, although I had heard quite a bit about it. Nothing about the plot, however.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is based on the short stories of Tucker Max about his misadventures with sex and dating. Usually the stories are beyond unflattering to women and himself. He's pretty open about the fact that he's arrogant and only interested in getting laid.

He's sort of like Maddox, in that he started out as a free thing on the internet, got a book deal, and now he's raking it in doing his idea of telling-it-like-it-is.

I got the "Unrated and Unapologetic" edition of the film.

The movie, which actually has a story, isn't terrible, but I could see why a majority of people hated it. There isn't graphic sex, but there's arguably graphic shitting.

I'll give Max this: it's amazingly honest in how he portrays himself. He doesn't make himself a hero at all.

Got Oldboy through Netflix last week. It's kind of a mindfuck. You can sort of see what's coming, but you don't see EVERYTHING.

Seriously, bravo Korea for coming out with some amazing films and putting up some stiff competition for Hollywood and the rest.
