Not a true meme, but one my coworker posted in our work journal that I thought was interesting. Here is how you play: make a list of those you have loved, past or present, then find a song for each that best describes the relationship. Usually "your song" does not really fit how it went, so go looking and see what you get... some of the results can be rather funny.

As for me... I have kinda a long one.

1) Lee: "Yellow Submarine" - The Beatles. He got me into the Beatles, and it was a fun adventure... besides, it is so him. Don't try to deny it, Stitch, you know it is true.

2) Elias: "Enjoy the Silence" - Depeche Mode/ "Haunted" - Evanesence. The seemingly ideal relationship that went horribly sour. The two songs reflect the happy beginning and the honestly desturbing end.

3) Ryan: "Darkness" - Disturbed. Ryan was a more platonic relationship than anything, but he was a big help in recovering from the Elias ordeal... the strength to get me through it.

4) Pat: "Roulette" - System of a Down. No chorus better explains how I felt during most of my attempts to catch that man, and I think those here that remember it would agree.

5) Garrett: "Heart of Glass" - Blondie. He doesn't post anymore so I have no regret in saying that while it tore me up initially, his leaving is the best thing that could have happened to me. The line about being a pain in the ass? Spot on.

6) Jayarre: "Don't Stay" - Linkin Park. This was honestly the hardest one to nail down because of just how insanely up and down that relationship was, but this song I think captures perfectly how I felt at the end of it when I reflected back.

7) Ben: "The Best is Yet to Come" - The Scorpions. Yeah yeah, the current relationship gets a sappier song. Like the song says, we have only just begun, and so the song I choose may change later but for now this one fits perfectly and captures the enthusiasm we feel about the big move and having everything to look forward to.

So, what songs do you guys choose? I am sure there will be some interesting results.

1) Regina: "Paid in Full" - Sonata Arctica. Reflecting back on the last moments of our relationship, I truly didn't love myself and without even realizing it I was blaming her for the break up. It was always, "Why did you do this to me, Regina?" when it should have been, "Why did I do that to you and myself, Regina?" The end of the song fully summarizes how I feel. I need to learn to love myself.

2) Kittie: "Summer Breeze" - Type O Negative cover. Seeing her smile back puts me in a good mood instantly, even though it didn't work out. We decided to remain close friends and she's still my summer breeze.

Here's some of my relationships. Some of the really short ones are tough to really capture since they were relatively forgettable or insignificant. Sorry, guys who got left out.

Nelson: "Title of the Song" - Da Vinci's Notebook. He and I were together for nearly 4 years (broke up with him a month before the anniversary), ranging from when I was in 8th grade and almost to a few months before I graduated. The relationship was held together by cliches, really. Boy bands and pop starlets were all the rage throughout this relationship, and he used to give me CDs filled with songs about love and so. Everything we ever said to each other was a "naive expression of love" or what have you. After the break up, and several weeks of him calling me crying over it, he flew out to California to try and convince me to come back.

Steve: "Permission" - Joseph Arthur. Granted the song is about raping someone, but this one month-long relationship was hell. I was 18. He was 30. He also had no friends, but he had boatloads of mommy issues. He was very controlling, verbally abusive, and would claim that I was flirting or smiling at random guys even if I just stared at the floor. He slapped me once, mostly hitting my neck. I stared him down and he left. For some reason I retained the relationship as long as I did because I felt, in some part of my soul, like he needed someone. Even after we were broken up and he kept calling, wanting to spend time with me alone in his apartment, and I refused he got very angry and call me all sorts of names. I chose the song for the fact that Steve seemed to insist that I put things through him before I could go do them. I think it ended up breaking his heart when I told him I went I saw "Matrix: Revolutions" with friends before I saw it with him, as he'd insisted.

Brandon: The "Duck Tales" theme song. Omit everything about ducks and you've got what it's like being in this relationship. Brandon and I are the types to drop everything and fight robots, kiss sharks, drive off to god-knows-where to kick a zombie in the nuts, or whatever. We've been together six years and it's still all fun and games.

Surprisingly, you can't actually dive into a pit full of money - if it hurts when you do it into water, think of what it feels like to hit a pile of gold coins... Ker-splat!

Well, if you count "relationships" I wouldn't really have any songs to represent them. They were all short and meaningless. But person I've had feelings for has two songs defiantly come to mind.

Laura : "Don't Bother" and "Whenever, Wherever" - Shakira. Laura is from Colombia. Shakira is from Colombia. Whenever, Wherever: I'd would be singing from my point of view. Her distance really adds to my attraction to her, I would do A LOT, and have, to be together with her, I have small breasts, she has me wrapped around her finger. I need to be reminded how much I like her, or else I start to think I hate her.

Listen to the song, that summary will make a little more sense .

Don't Bother: The first two verses fit her SO perfectly. She's gorgeous, an incredible cook and completely in shape. She goes to private school and speaks perfect french. She's very popular and has a lot of great friends. She does Tai Chi..etc" Now the rest of the song doesn't quite fit, because the song is about a girl Shakira is describing, but if it was from a first person point of view, it would fit. I don't feel like I deserve her and it's hard for me to believe I could be liked as well. Also there is a point where Shakira is speaking and sound EXACTLY like Laura.

So yes, that turned out a bit long. It's funny how much a song can remind you of a person.

So I says to Brandon, I says, "What song describes our relationship?"

"I don't know!"

"Pick one!"

"Uh.. uh... Duck Tales!!"

"D'oh. I already used that one. Pick another!!"

"Uh.. Wild Wild West!!!"

"What? Why?"

"I dunno. Because we like the wild, wild west?"

So there you go. From out of the mouths of babes. Because we love Arizona, the history of the wild west, shows about it, westerns, etc, we're a Will Smith song for a crappy movie. Well, at least there was steampunk involved.
