I skimmed the first page, and "Busy" is the closest to this thread that I spotted. If this is a repeat of any sort, then sorry! XD

Well, I don't know if this is my new recent influx of time "at home" or what, but I miss this place, and have been not only lurking, like everyday, but I'm posting again too. Woot! I hope to see more people following this pattern.

But anyway, most of us have been here for quite a few years. I, for one, realized, upon celebrating my 22nd birthday, that I've been here since I was 15. Dude.

So, what has everyone been up to? What changed since you've first joined. Plans, living situations, etc...I really REALLY miss talking to the friends I've made here as much as I used to. And I know that kind of time is pretty much over with, but I would like to get back in touch and talk more than I have been.

But yeah. You guys: Then and Now.

And the newer members, feel free to use this to talk about yourselves more. Tell us more about you than just the little intro thread.

Ah, me. I'm probably the most active lurker, always checking Xeogaming if I have an internet connection even though I don't post nearly as much as I ought to. I'm kinda coming out of my shell lately as I've been posting a lot more than I usually do both here and at Jul!

I've just finished my first year of university.

And trying to post a bit more here, get some decent activity going, at the very least.

I know, right. I started when I was 18 and now I'm 25. We're completely different people from when we started. Sad part is I'm only now finishing college, but this after transferring out of a city college and into a university a couple years ago. Thankfully, it seems like most other people in college these days aren't that much younger.

Anyway, then : I was 18, just out of a long-term, long-distance relationship (of 4 years and some change since it lingered for a really long time), fresh out of high school, had just spent a couple weeks in Europe, and I had pretty much just started at Long Beach City College and on a whim went with journalism as a major.

Hadn't really gone on any crazy roadtrips without my parents yet, had just started getting back into conventions (went to them when I was 14 and started going to Comic-Con and Anime Expo earlier that year), I'd never been drunk (despite having drunk a lot), never had stitches, never had sex, never really been in love (at least now as I look back on it, I hadn't REALLY been), and I was still pretty new to this whole life without fences thing.

I felt like I had more freedom (since I could come and go from school as I pleased), and was just starting to make new friends.

Now : I'm 25. I'm living with this guy that I've been with for 6 years and going to university double majoring in journalism and American studies, one year away from graduation. I just had the craziest school year of my life where I've met and interviewed all sorts of people and seen so many amazing and unbelievable things on all of my random trips and explorations. These past few months alone, I had my life saved, had to get stitches, somehow got drunk (I wasn't the worst, though. One of my friends punched the paper towel dispenser off the wall), and have gone on so many outstanding roadtrips and gone on a lot of (mis)adventures with Brandon and others.

In the last few years, I worked on a Rocky Horror Picture Show cast, wrote and edited for a few publications, got my driver's license, a few more cats (while painfully losing a couple), took up hiking, learned to throw knives, went to dozens of conventions, hundreds of festivals and faires, had earth-shattering sex, never taken drugs, and I still don't know what I want to do with my life.

Good to see some people wanting to come out of their shells.

Rogue, I've been waiting for you to post, as well as a few others. XD Dude, I was in awe of you, Elara, few other people, so reading about you even refering to yourself as "then" I remember thinking "Dude, she's cool as shit..."

Lesse...when I joined, it was December of my sophomore year in high school. Then, I was hardheaded, thought I was badass and tough because I lived in a dangerous part of the city, and was pretty much allowed to run as wild as I pleased. Things weren't all that strict for me, being as there were too many other problems in the family, and despite being a little jackass, by miracle, I turned out to be not so much like them. I wasn't out there drinking at 15, was 18 before I had my first drink, and even then...even NOW, I don't drink much.) was responsible enough to get my shit together and get to school. I was even top of the class most of my life.

Was waaaayyyyy too cocky for my own good though.

Now? Well...still hardheaded, not any taller, more stubborn, still way too cocky, although the self-esteem has improved. It was terrible back then. Lots of health issues straightening themselves out, I'm a great-aunt now, as well as having more nieces and nephews added to my list, made some stupid mistakes, just like everyone else, but here's to hoping I've learned from them.

Career wise, I never thought I'd see myself in art school. Always liked it as a hobby, but that was where it ended. Unfortunately, due to finances mostly, as well as some other snags, I'm going to be 26 by the time I get out of art school, and with only an Associate's Degree. I have additional plans to further my education, but most of the places I'm interested in working for will gladly pay for my continued education, so right now, I'm just going to school, working, and whatever else happens to come along.

Oh, and I still talk WAY too much.

Sorry I didn't post sooner. I was out of town for a couple days.

Nice, Katana. I completely feel you on not getting out until you're 26. Oh man, do I ever.

Do not give up hope, though, and especially NEVER stop learning. I'm 25 and just learned how to solder this weekend. I'm trying to cook up things to do with my summer so I don't veg in front of the TV or computer. I might make a stained glass window.

Never, EVER lose your curiosity or your sense of wonder. And definitely don't give up being stubborn.

In truth, I think the years have made me more bitter and cynical, but I think it's just to protect the inner me that's still a child with pure emotions who just wants to be happy with everyone.

It's amazing on how time has passed since I started posting at any message board -- around the time I started learning Japanese is when I started posting at ABs. As a community, we watched each other grow up over the last 7 years quite a bit. I'm not a heavy poster, but I always loved reading the posts.

Well, I would like to accept the invitation of new members telling something of themselves here. Haha

I am currently in my senior year at highschool and desperately want to ba an author, emphasis on desperately. I write alot on my free time, but just a couple short stories. I have one novel I have been working on now for quite a while, and would love for it to be published. But, hey, we'll see how it goes. For right now, I just want to get out of school.

As for activity on this site, I don't do much. I'm frequently visiting, but either feel odd joining in on random conversations or the RP ideas I think about posting aren't really that exciting, because I horde all of the good stuff for myself. Maybe i'll start posting some of my stories and such for feedback. Who knows. It can't hurt that much.....maybe.

Oh gods, the changes!

Um, let me see.

2003: I was 19 when I first came on to this board from Vizzed, long long ago. I had been drunk but never had a hangover, lived at home with my controlling parents, didn't drive, was in my second year of college as a psychology major. I hadn't had my first job yet, spent a lot of time gaming, and was a cutter because I hadn't gotten my emotions under control. I also had just gotten out of a long and dysfunctional relationship and was torn between two guys that had an interest in me. Had first sleepover at a guy's house night before going to the release party for the Mirrodin set of Magic: The Gathering.

2004: Dated one of those two guys (Pockets), broke up later. Chased the other (AnimeRPJunkie) for a summer, stopped cutting. Had an online relationship with Benja, ended that. Got first job ever as a monster for the annual haunted house known as Shipwreck at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Turned 20. Started working on my novel Darkfang. Had first hangover... did NOT like it.

2005: Got engaged to the next boyfriend (Darkguardian), was left by him a month later, got control of my bank accounts from my mother during this time and switch majors to biology. Got a tattoo. Began dating venomouslobster, turned 21. Worse hangover.

2006: I learned how to drive, got my first and second car, my AA in Liberal Arts and transferred to a four year university. Became a history major. Worked for one month in brewery supply store. Learned to brew beer.

2007: Venomouslobster broke up with me, last complete year working Shipwreck. Joined a bowling league with three other friends.

2008: Went to Vegas with bowling team, came in last place but learned to play craps. Began dating Ben. Started working at Cabrillo Beach. Had insane semester of four back to back history classes, attempted. Moved out with Ben into our own apartment in Long Beach. Got into hockey (go Pens)

2009: Flew on plane for first time, visited Pennsylvania. Saw game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals in Pittsburgh. Went to Niagara Falls and Lake Erie. Got two kittens that have since destroyed many things and had first Halloween where I did nothing. Began going to Rockbottom Brewery and discovered a lot of really neat places around town. Turned 25.

2010: Completed last semester at CSULB, I graduate in two days. Working second job with the Census Bureau and realizing that my Spanish skills are better than I thought but not nearly as good as I need them to be.

You know, I turned down a date recently because the guy is a Pens fan. I was like "Uh...what if I end up really liking you? I can't bring you into my house, dude..."

Speaking of hockey though, update: still obsessed with hockey. Guess who's going to the Cup this year, baby!!!! Chicago and Philly!!!! Go Flyers!!!

Although...Richards touched the Cup...That's like bad juju. Even if Crosby did last year and they took the Cup...the bad juju just took longer to reach the Pens, since they were taken out in the second of the playoffs this year!!! Ahahahahahahahaha.

Edit: Phoenix, you know, I felt the same way. Like, weird about jumping in on discussions already being had. Pretty much, all I did was sucked it up, and just dove in. Even if I didn't have anything "new" to add, even if it was just agreeing with something already said, or reiterating a good point, only phrasing it my way, it got me involved, and helped me get to know people, and then things just got better from there. I also realized that I wouldn't be chastized for doing so. That was one of my insecurities, agreeing with a point already made seemed redundant at the time. But it helps people get used to seeing your name, reading your thoughts, and in my opinion, helps both parties. You'll see, if you stick with it, it gets easier.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable final match-up of Sharks vs Pens to see how my relationship survives. Heheh heh.

Yeah, we have a lot of lurkers on the board... I recognize some of the names from Vizzed, and they are active over there so I don't know why they don't post. It would be nice though, we could use more activity.

My turn! I joined this forum six years ago, which would make me...13. Nice. When I was thirteen, I was a horrifically self-conscious blob of geek who loved nothing more than shielding himself from society with his vastly overgrown hair and playing RPGs.

Now, I'm a strapping nineteen year old renegade with significantly shorter (albeit still shaggy) hair. I'm fairy set on my career path of writer/filmmaker, and I've heard all the cons you can think of to that lifestyle choice, and they don't particularly bother me.

I'm setting up a production group with my friend Doug. We'll be collaborating on a few movies this summer that are a huge jump in overall quality from my/his previous things. I'm also doing a few short stories and continuing to toil away on my 3-Day novel.

Besides all that, I know I'm significantly different. I'm significantly more extroverted than I was at 13. I make friends quicker and I speak my mind fuller. I'm in a very stable relationship for over a year now. However, I think I've lost something in these past few years. I think my complete selflessness has given out and I'm in some kind of grey area. Whether or not this is good or bad is debatable, as I do treat myself significantly better than I used to.

I've lost, found, sank, swam, flown, jumped, written, cuddled, fought, walked, ran, slept, drank, breathed, watched, experienced, danced, played, joked, lived, and died many times. And for some reason, after all of this, I still find you people entertaining.

It's nice to know what you want to do at that age Cairoi, keep it up.

Seeing some of you are still getting school in at your mid 20's makes me feel a little better (that sounds terribly selfish to say though? lol...), since I will probably be around that age just getting an Associates if all goes well. Hoping to speed up the process by keeping busy with some classes in the summer.

Right now I'm set on either Electronics Technology or networking/IT stuff with Information Technology, my college offers two year programs for both which is really nice.

I realized a few years ago and during high school that I wouldn't want Game Design to be a career (turning my number one hobby into a job didn't seem appealing), and wanted nothing to do with programming. But I still really enjoy technology and getting more hands on physically with some stuff. I took a Computer Hardware course this semester and might take a follow on course someday, these can both lead into getting an A+ Certification. I might also be able to get some other certs down the road for these two degree's, whichever one I decide to stick with.

Other than that there's not much going on. I put on like 20lbs over the last few years which was more than welcome for me, I needed it, and last year I bulked up a bit but it was hard on top of my full time warehouse job to work out afterwards... but this summer I plan to get back in shape again and bulk up. Hehe, tired of being the little guy...

Nothing wrong with being the "little guy." I'm little, and I get by just fine. XD Yeah yeah, I know, it's not the same for girls, but I'm the female equivalant of what it means for guys. I'm on the short side, I have hardly any curves to me, it's not like I have nice, long legs, and I definitely lack in the boob department. And...despite having my own stepladder at work, and various "small" jokes, I'm just as angry and disgruntled as I would be if I wasn't the "little guy."

Maybe.

Okay, that didn't help at all, did it? XD

And nothing selfish about feeling better that you're not alone in something. I'll be 26 with only an AA degree...and I, as well as most of us here, understand your situation very well. Financing college is REALLY tough, and going to college and having to hold down a steady job is no easy task either. Anyone else who pulls this off, I salute you.

And thanks for the mild belittlement, Cairoi...."Still find you people entertaining." Glad us little people can amuse you. XD XD XD Hahaha.

The funny thing is I was kind of big compared to a lot of others when I worked at Jiffy Lube... dunno why, that place just attracted small / short guys. Maybe that's average for mechanics?

Luckily I have been able to pay myself through college so far, but yeah. I expect taking out some loans here in a bit if I can't get a decent job soon. My parents can't help at all, but luckily my community college is as good as it is and I hope that's the case for others.

The thing that pisses me off more though are books. Last semester I tried retaking college algebra yet again (dropped because the teacher was one of the worst I've ever had), and the math book alone was like $180-200 or something. More than the damn class itself.

**nods** Yup. So far, I've been lucky. I spent $280.00 on my Japanese class, for the books. But it included a workbook, textbook, and some sort of audio CD. PLUS, the class was available for 6 semesters, and a new textbook only needed to be bought for every 3. (6 semesters meaning that there were 6 levels of it available to take. Dunno if I made that confusing, so I wanted to clarify.)

Beyond that, luckily my teachers at the Community College here tried to make things as cheap as possible. Art school, on the other hand....while there are hardly any textbooks, I'll be spending about an additional 500 bucks in supplies each year. Not that 500 dollars worth is mandatory, but you need to spend money to get supplies, and you need supplies to grow and get better, and what's the point in going to art school to begin with, if you don't want to give yourself the best chance at getting better at various media as possible.

And I've noticed that mechanics are a little on the smaller side too...but...I've tinkered around with cars a bit, and not gonna lie, being tiny made it easier to work comfortably under the car, or squeeze in under the hood.

EDIT: Elara, I FINALLY got what you meant...about the Pens vs. Sharks. I had been wracking my brain since, and was too embarassed to admit it, cuz all I kept thinking was "They're both out of the play-offs...even when she said that...." but now I get it....and I almost died from the giggles. XD
