The lingering effects of his last term. We probably won't see the end of that until just short of Fall this year.

It's Free Comic Book Day! YAAAAAAY!!

*Head esplodies now*

I already got my comic shop crawl done for this year. Got some good stuff out there.

Got all kinds of crazy with a Batman standing on a street corner with a Spiderman. Both of whom were posing at cars.

EDIT: I just read the 25th anniversary release of the first issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Damn is it dark compared with the cartoons and movies based on it.

Epic, I need to check out the TMNT comics sometime.

I got a good chunk of stuff too, already filled up my first [small] box!

The store my friends and I checked out had another store around the corner rented out for the day or so for 25 cent comics. It feels so good walking out with like 60 comics and only spending $15. Then went up to the main store and got a few more things.

I mainly built up my collection of X-Force (have everything up to 32 I believe, then some random later ones), handful of Cable, got 1-5 of Stormbreaker: Beta Ray Bill, a handful of Silver Sable (looked cool?), and some other random stuff.

It seems like after awhile, once you get further into an older series it starts to get harder and harder to finding volumes. I think I've got the common stuff for X-Force, so it could be a little more work to find the rest. My friends and I also noticed with later X-Force, they don't even list the volume, just the date. That's a bitch, what the heck?

House of M seems hard to find around here or something. I'd like to get that and all of Civil War sometime soon.

Got three free comics and a Dark Tower hardback comic for buying over $25 worth at Elite Comics. The three free comics were kind of meh, I was a little late I guess so there wasn't much of a selection.

They had a few artists and such at the store, as well as some good looking chicks dressed up. Fairly disturbing when an old-old guy got his picture taken with Super-girl, his hands were all over her.

Definitely check out Civil War. It's a bit easier to understand compared with House of M, since you can pretty much get it at any comic understanding level.

With House of M, you need to understand that Scarlet Witch and The Vision were together, she went crazy and killed a lot of people including the Vision and Hawkeye, and House of M is Wanda (Scarlet Witch) trying to live her life as she and every other character in the Marvelverse wished they could have lived.

I've been meaning to read Dark Tower. I tend not to spend too much on graphic novels as I tend to buy them for cheap at conventions, but Dark Tower is still among the pricier books.

I'm not surprised House of M is hard to find. Truly the Civil War is a better, less confusing story, but House of M for some reason is hotter to collectors. When I was going through the half-off bins at Wizard World a couple years back, this guy actually fished out the copies of House of M and handed them to the guy saying to hide them and sell them at a higher price somewhere else as "they're going on Amazon for $20," he said.

Looks like you got a con coming up this month, Xeo. Lucky. Wizard World was postponed this year due to the economy. I gotta wait until July for Comic-Con. *Pouts*

Good grief, the comic shops that I went to were either filled beyond belief with people or were eerily empty. Meh, more comics for me.

Seriously, the TMNT comic was a give-away today. If you can find it, GET IT. It's outstanding. Pretty much a reprint of the first issue, but you MUST read it.

I may need to fire a columnist.

Her stories are usually on time, but since she insisted on being a sex columnist, it gets hard to read her stories sometimes. She's rather conservative and there's nothing wrong with that or promoting abstinence and being anti-abortion. She does, however, completely berate people who do choose to have sex, in a sex column.

What's killing me, though, is that her writing is also flooded with logical fallacies. In yesterday's article, which was addressing the Plan B pill, she went of on a tangent of "Plan A" being a "smarter choice," but never specifies what "Plan A" is. Is it not getting pregnant? Not having sex? Choosing to keep the baby? What?

But what I was having trouble swallowing was when she throws in non sequiturs, saying things like, "Evolution states that it is an accidental organism" regarding an unplanned pregnancy. How does evolution figure into this? Uh..?

Or when she writes that a woman feels she's ridding her body of the "parasite" like Hitler rid Europe of the Jews. In other words, if you are impregnated and no matter what your reason, if you choose to take the morning after pill and evacuate the cells that would become an embryo (eventually becoming a fetus in a few weeks), you're a Nazi.

And even after one of the copy-editors discussed the necessary changes with her, she still had a bunch of random statistics that she had thrown into the story. I left a note in her story's Google Doc saying that I needed the sources for fact-checking purposes and the links to where she got the information. Even one of the executive editors flat out told her she needed to include these things after he saw my note and my discussing it with him.

Her response to the situation: deleting my note and not adding the sources.

I REALLY hate the idea of having to fire a student writer. Since the guy who hired her as a columnist is an executive editor, the other two exec editors are saying he should be the one to fire her.

Shitty situation. And she's in one of my classes.

Awkward.
(Is it akward, or awkward?)

Either way, it sounds like you've tried to point out her mistakes with note(s) and whatnot, then she just flatout ignores them? Something definitely needs to be done.

If the majority says the executive dude should be the one to do it though, hopefully that happens.

Heh. Suddenly reminds me that I gotta read Infinity Gauntlet stuff, which pretty much leads up to the death of most of the Marvel characters.

Went to faire today, followed by Bogfest. I feel completely beat. But it's a good beat.

Gonna hit up a museum tomorrow for a new exhibit. Not sure what's going on for Mother's Day.

Probably should help Brandon with his extra credit project for history.

And yes, it is "awkward."

So I had a ... few drinks last night ... and ended up almost breaking my friends G1, I cracked his screen up really good though. I'm not sure what happened, he was on the phone with someone then I just walked up to him and started talking, somehow knocked the phone out of his hand and it landed on the concrete driveway. It was like time stopped when that thing lifted off into the air and hit the ground.

Luckily he didn't seem upset about it at all. His mom works for T-Mobile, and it sounded like was going to get his phone upgraded or something soon anyways, on top of having a warranty. I felt terrible though and he knows I'll help him out with any money needed for fixing it.

I better throw out that peppermint chocolate soy milk I've had in the fridge for a few months.

Yay, last final for the semester tomorrow. Looking forward to summer session for some reason.

Watching a lot of old cartoons online is real chicken soup for the soul.

Yeah... it's good for longer than regular milk but that is the only real difference. Our fridge's condenser fan burned out so we had no real fridge for two days and that was enough to spoil the soy milk. Sad, over half the carton was left.

I just finished my last final, so happy that it is over.

On another board they have a thumbs up/down rating system, I just noticed I am down to the minimum amount of thumbs... guess that is what you get for not bowing down to majority ideas and calling people on bullshit.

There is beer in the fridge... I want one to celebrate the end of the semester, but I have to work the opening shift tomorrow.
