So, currently then in the book I'm writing, my character has been knocked unconscious by a poison, and remains that way for several hours.

Also, since I'm trying to make my book as realistic as possible, then I ahve one important question...do you rest when unconscious? Will you be less tired after being knocked out, or will you need more sleep in order to not be tired?

Yes, I did google it, triyng out a lot of searches, but I couldn't find anything. So, if anyone knows, I'd be glad to be informed.

The last time I was knocked unconscious, I didn't dream and when I came to I was having trouble staying conscious. Things were hazy and I was exasperated with all of the people trying to keep me awake.

Keeping in mind that everyone's different, my experience is obviously not the definitive.

I've heard from some people that they just suddenly see black and nothingness (this is from people who strangle themselves to get high).

Then again, falling unconscious probably has completely different results when poison is involved. Try looking up the results with alcohol. Alcohol is a poison and we drink to experience the feeling of our body trying to get rid of the toxin. I've heard stories that being poisoned has many of the same effects as being drunk (dizziness, imbalance, etc).

Last time I was knocked unconscious, everything was hazy and went by pretty quick. Like Rogue said, I dont remember dreaming or anything, I just know that I woke up and realised what happened.

Makes ME want to do research

For me it was similar to what Rogue and Nagis has said. I've only been knocked unconscious through anesthetics, never from getting hurt or anything, and I was little the last time I was operated on. I was four actually, and the only part I can remember is feeling like people were sitting on my chest and having difficulty breathing. My mom and brother told me the rest though. They said I kept begging them to let me go back to sleep and they said that I couldn't focus my eyes on anything for a little while afterward. **shrugs**

So, being groggy somehow would probably be a definite for your character. Teehee.

Otherwise, good idea to look up alcohol. **nods**

XD Whoops, accidentily stickied this thread for a moment.

Yeah, one time I was knocked unconscious, and it was just kinda like having trouble focusing my eyes, hazy, and I felt kinda weak.

They all pretty much got the point across.

yay! Psych Major to the rescue. As you can see from everyone's experience, the general is they aren't rested. T

he body might heal itself slightly, but the mind will be disoriented because when you are forced to go unconscious, be it by a hit or sleeping gas of sorts, you don't go into the natural cycles of sleep and these cycles are the ones needed for rest.

That's why when a person comes out from being under with sleeping gas, many times, they wake up and within minutes are actually sleeping.

This is a pretty basic explanation I'd have to dig out my psychobiology book to give even more specifics that generally go over people's heads (including mine).

I have to say that my experience goes along with what WhiteRose said. I was put under for a procedure and when I woke up I was groggy and fell asleep soon afterwards.

Hmm... I was knocked unconcsious by anaesthetics for an operation and when I woke up from them, I felt fine. Although it did take me a little longer to wake myself up, after a brief walk around the hospital room I felt refreshed... Wootage for being different from other people!!!

Possibly or you did wake up groggy and fell asleep right away and don't remember it. But people's body do differ so you could have woken up rested.

Nah, my mum was also surprised by my fast awakening.

But yeah, I've always been different, so you'd probably be better listening to the makority on this subject.

Wouldn't it depend on if you had a concussion or not? I don't really understand.
