Does it ever make you feel like you are just opposite of intelligent? I do, sometime.

It really annoys me sometime because of how people tell me like I am. I'm not overreacting, just wondering why would people say that. Sure, it means the good thing but if you are "smart" like people tell you are, would you think of the word "genius" or just natural-smart? (In my opinion, I'm more of wisdom-type then intelligence-type.)

When it comes to something like tactic, I tends to enjoy it depending on it. In fact, one time when Desroth and I played chess, somewhere in the middle of the battle, he said, "I can defeat you in two turns." However, he didn't see ahead of the move I SHOULD make. It was just pure dumb luck that Desroth messed up in the end but we "tied" at some point there. But even when Desroth said that he could defeat me in two turns, does it makes me smart enough to avoid the situation I was in, that Desroth was telling me about?

When I was playing World of Warcraft at some point against a 7-years-old, he claimed that I was smart for defeating him in 2 v.s. 2 and 1 v.s. 1 duel. Just because I beat him doesn't make ME smart. It is matter of reflex and work that you can do. Anyone would know not to waste two healing items unless you need them when you are on low health. How does that make me smart?

Even on GaiaOnline, I was talking to someone about how role-playing SHOULD be, instead of how people WANT them to be. Sure, you want them to be fun, but shouldn't it be very focused on the plot? You want it to be easy to understand, but should you make one sentence post, ignoring how your character is in that position? It is not like one simple action, such as sighing, just staring at each other, or any stationary action* will change the whole storyline. Where's the emotion, the environment, and what makes the character special?

In fact, here's where I speak about the RP/Story:

- Heavy focused plot. Having some "gaiden" quest/plot may help if you are using some minor characters to help focus on the storyline.

- Usage of variety of minor character. I'm not saying to give every minor character a major role but as least give them what make them very unique to the role play/story. In fact, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance gaves several minor characters for YOU to choose, and in Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn, they gave those minor characters an important role. Such an good example would be Nephenee/Brom chapter. (When you see Nephenee and Brom in Path of Radiance, they are prisoner who can be recuited for the next chapter. In Goddess of Dawn, they have their own chapter to fight against the rebels who think that they should be the new heroes.)

- Description. Quality, not quanity. Right? The problem is that several people can abuse it so much that it can be mistranslated. The quality of the post is the emotion of your character, or the uniqueness. The quanity of your post is the paragraph(s) of your action, dialogue, and description. These two are more important as one would fail without the other. Just because you made one sentence doesn't make the story will advance like so. If you are going to say one sentence, it possibly is not going to do anything!

After this person read it, she said that I was smart enough to think something like that. But does this make me smart enough to figures this out? No, it is just something I wanted in a RP/story, or how to use each item/attack effective during a battle, or an ploy to confusion your opponent so that they THINK they are winning.

Just because I played alot of tactic video games or role-play less over time, doesn't guaranteed to make me smart. But if people said that I am smart, it's okay by me but I don't believes that I have an IQ of a genius yet. What's your opinion?

* - What I mean by stationary action is that action that doesn't gave much major change and is likely to have no impact on a storyline. If you are sighing for one post and say "I'm bored.", it is likely you aren't doing anything. Or if you walked over to the particular area then returned to the same spot for no reason, it is also likely you aren't doing anything to help the storyline to proceed either.

Seticus, no one is smart in this world, Only Logical. You can have a million degrees and be the biggest dump fuck on the world. Look at Albert Einstein, he was logical in science, but he sucked big time when it came to numbers.

About roleplaying on Gaiaonline, its a big fat fucking joke there. You just need to join a guild that has literate roleplaying and go at it. I know of a few guilds that would love to have you there, so Ill talk to them for you if you want me to.

People say im smart, but my whole family said there are times where I scare them with my way of words. Hell, I can convince anyone to do anything if it comes to it. Thats not smart, its very logical.

Hell, I dont know jack shit about anything book-smart wise. I refuse to learn History, and thats why Im going to Tech school. I feel like an idiot when I had people in school call me smart when in all honesty, it was only 30 minutes of studying that I did in which no one else did.

It makes sence about you playing Tactic games alot. It dosent make you smart, it makes you more logical dude.

Funny, my Oxford American Desk Dictionary and Thesaurus said that logical is intelligent in a similar meaning. Intelligent is similar to being smart. However, I get your point.

Are you trying to say that in categories, there are things we are smart about and thing we have no flying fucking clue about? Such as math, history, english, etc.?

No thank. But it is very generous of you.

However, the word "smart" have lost it bearing when it can be proven false. Hell, would it be even better to say that I have more wisdom then in intelligence? Even logic couldn't help wisdom since one is word of science and the other is word of moral. Even with wisdom, you still need the brain of common sense as much as logic does.

Beside, what the hell is up with genius? It's not like they are right in every categories in education, which, in my opinion is pure bullshit. However, watching The Edge, even genius are depressed if they are billionaires.

You can say Smart and Logical mean the same things, but Logical is how well you can use your brain, being smart is how much you know.

ALOT of people think they are looking for the smart side, but when it comes to the real world, they are actually looking for the Logical standpoint if you think about it.

To call someone smart is an insult; intelligent, a complement; and logical, a whole different realm altogether.

A logical argument can be completely artless and lacking in proper rhetoric, which does not reflect intellect. Intellect is far more subjective than logic; the latter should in face be universal by its own nature and definition.

I know what you mean though. I'm an idiot, and I get annoyed when people say things of the sort.

If someone calls me smart, they generally mean it as a compliment, so why get bitchy over it? I get called smart often, as well as intelligent and sometimes even logical. I don't get offended by any of them because I understand what the person is trying to say. Take the compliment and let it go.

The problem is that it must be a fact rather then a compliment. If I was smart, it would be established as a complete fact that I am current "genius" at some point where I was completely right.

Elara, let try it this way. If I kept saying that you are smart over a period of time, it would technically lose its meaning. As Nagis said:

Look at Albert Einstein, he was logical in science, but he sucked big time when it came to numbers.

It's not like he is really "smart" in life but has his intelligence into science. When you say it to me, I would feel like that the people is more wrong because the word does not seem to be applies accurately to the fact about me. It would be saying like that mental-retard could be "smart" and a genius "dumb" instead of the other way around. If it was someone's opinion, then it would have said: "Yeah, that seem more logical. Hey Elara, you seem to know about these stuff," rather then a established fact: "Hey Elara, you are smart about math."

If you even know geometric, you would already know what you learned from it, but it doesn't qualifies as being smart since you may not know trig or how limits work.

See what I mean? Saying that someone is smart make it seem more like a fact whereas the person may not have that intelligence yet.

Logos, It dosent matter if he is talking funny or not. And if there was something he should be telling us, he would have already said it by now.

Seticus, you dont have to take anything from anyone. If you find someone calling you smart offensive, just tell them. If they get hurt by it, then they dont have any buisness talking to you in the first place.

I don't know where Elara comes from, but "smart" is often used as an insult or as sarcasm. I was just a bit worried since if I remember straight, Seticus used to be of of the least odd sounding people on the board.

I was one of the least odd sounding people? Never knew that. O_o What am I right now, if you don't mind answering? (If you said that I am more odd right now, I'll would agree with you there since I have a weird brain pattern.)

Either my grammar sucks or you must have drinking. Chances are, it would be the first one.

Anyway, what I am trying to say that being called smart isn't an actual fact, since people can uses the term to express their feeling but not your. Think as this way, if someone called you smart for only solving one difficult problem, how would you know that any other people could have done it if they knew the same problem?

Unless someone take an IQ test, you can't really say that so-and-so are smart because of their ability to think more critically. Anyone could have think the same. What I am trying to say that being smart isn't really good compliment if the next thing came to the worse and you failed the class.

I know people have to make mistakes to learn from it but how does the hell being called smart is better when people could do the same thing?

I agree with you there. You can be smart for only belief time, but in anything else, you are just whoever you are. Not smart but not stupid either, just what you are.

Smartness is easy to come by, genius is not.

Smart people are people who are particularly good at one thing, so good at it in fact, that they make people think that because they're so good at that, they are good at everything.

we all have talents, mine is Bullshitting people. I make people believe that I've read something, or done a lot of work, when in fact, I've just lazed along my normal path, not doing anything special. It's a good skill, and it helps a lot with writing.

Uhhh, Kinda went off topic I think.

Uhhhh.

Intelligence is relative to your age. If you are "Smart" as a kid, you just know stuff people your age don't normally know. I was "Smart" then I got lazy as hell, and stopped trying to learn. Also, smartness cannot be judged by grades. Any idiot can pass a class, only smart people can do it without doing anything.
