I'm concerned about how close this character's name is to Erebus. I'm both confused and disappointed. | |||

Name: Garrett Langdon
Age: 20 Birthplace: Catonsville, Maryland Weapons: usually fights unarmed, but always carries a katana and a switchblade for protection Appearance: 6'0", 189 lbs. Short, spiked black hair. Wears a tight, plain black t-shirt. White athletic shorts/pants (depending on the weather, of course) with a black stripe down the side. Black fingerless gloves. Silver chain around his neck at all times. white Power Balance wristband around his right wrist. Bio: Garrett Langdon is a 20 year old college dropout from Catonsville, Maryland, a suburb just outside of Baltimore. He is witty, sarcastic, and very eloquent. He's also very arrogant, tenacious, and an aggressive fighter who likes to play mind games with his opponents. Growing up, Garrett was a bit of a problem child, despite his obvious intellect. He often get into fights at school, and it was rare for a week to pass without a trip to the principal's office. Despite this, he managed to get into the University of Maryland upon graduation. One night, in his freshman year, he discovered a secret street fighting ring in downtown Baltimore. Always itching for a fight, Garrett got involved. The fights were to a knockout, and Garrett won his first fight in less than two minutes. Kenny Nicholas, one of the leaders of the ring, took Garrett under his wing. He flourished, winning every one of his fights for nine months straight, making quite a bit of money in the process. His studies took a beating as a result; he dropped out a few weeks into his sophomore year at UMD, and started going to the fights every night. One night, he arrived to the secret location to find a crowd gathered around a strange figure, but no fight going on. Pushing to the front, he saw Kenny's lifeless body lying underneath the figure, who attempted to leave. Garrett confronted the figure, who beat him down with superhuman strength. When Garrett still got back up, the figure barked a word of magic, and he was thrown back again, knocked unconscious. Upon awaking, he took Kenny's necklace and has taken to wearing it at all times. He went into seclusion a few days later, training for an entire year in solitude. When he emerged and returned to the fighters, they told him that the figure that murdered Kenny wasn't the only thing that possessed inhuman powers that were around these days. Garrett, a cold indifference in his personality now, takes on any and all fighters, regardless of any handicap that he might possess. He prefers to fight hand-to-hand, but keeps a Katana with him, concealed under a long leather coat, in case anyone that's armed challenges him. First time I've made a character...if anyone wants more details, just ask. I'm not sure how well I did. |

Garrett heard the gruff voice from across the street, and looks over at the man. He can tell, even from across the street, what the man's intentions are. He smirks to himself, looks up and down the street, and crosses. Garrett notes that the man's posture, expression, and more or less everything about this man suggests pure, unbridled rage, so he decides to have some fun.
"What's up?" he asks brightly, flashing the man a pseudo-friendly smile. (Last edited by cityondown012510 on 10-22-10 03:17 AM) |

Garrett is sent reeling from the punch, but looks back up at Roger, smirking widely.
"I may not be a master of etiquette, but that hardly seems to be a reasonable way to greet a stranger," he says in the same bright, friendly tone that so clearly displays his sarcastic manner. |

Garrett uses the back of his right arm to block the punch with ease, expecting it this time. He drives an open-palmed hand into Roger's chest, pushing him back a bit, but not causing any actual damage. Garrett steps back and laughs loudly.
"Even if you do, that's still not much of a greeting, bud. But since you know who I am...well, pardon my French, but who the hell are you?" |

Garrett begins to walk around Roger in a circle, the sarcastic smirk still plastered on his face.
"But what's wrong with formalities, Roger? That's the best part of the fight, I find. Besides, do you really think I'd take a shot at you now? You're expecting it, I'm not that dumb." |

Garrett spins to avoid the hit, but he's not fast enough. The baton strikes him smartly on the arm, and he stumbles a few feet away.
"Damn, you really mean business, don't you?" Garrett says, annoyed, as he takes off his coat and drapes it over a nearby fence. He also unhooks the katana's sheath from his waistband and drops it on the ground; he's not fighting to kill. "Patience is a virtue, you know. Haven't you ever heard that phrase?" Pacing around some more, eyeing Roger warily, Garrett picks up a discarded, thin pipe lying next to a dirty dumpster. It's slightly bent towards the end, but it will do. He twirls it in his right hand as he closes in on Roger, fire in his eyes. "I really don't think you know who you're dealing with, pal," he says, and without warning, strikes out at Roger's face with the end of the pipe. |

Garrett is knocked to his knees by the force of the blow, wincing. He looks up, grinning wickedly at Roger.
"Aha, that was clever. Now you're learning," he says brightly. He gets back to his feet and inches closely to Roger. He lashes out high with his left fist, simultaneously going for a strong strike to Roger's ribs with the pipe. |

Garrett quickly shifts his body, turning to his left, and brings both of his arms down. He drops the pipe and catches Roger's knee just before it makes contact with his ribs. With fire in his eyes and the sarcastic smile gone, he glares at Roger.
"Okay, now you pissed me off," he growls, and sends a swift, hard elbow towards Roger's head. (Last edited by cityondown012510 on 10-27-10 12:43 AM) |

Phoenix, how can you compare that?! Okay, WWE isn't real. So what? What makes guys ACTUALLY beating the shit out of each other more entertaining than guys pretending to? It's just as difficult to fake a fight, and make it look as realistic as the guys in the WWE do, than it is to actually fight someone. Not to mention, they have to be conditioned just as good as a MMA fighter.
Furthermore, it's SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT. Hence the storylines and soap opera-esque aspect of it. If the realm of sports entertainment has degraded to the point where the entertainment comes entirely from two overly-muscular men beating the hell out of each other, our society has a problem. |

Okay, first of all, have you SEEN Fight Club? Senseless violence was not at all what that movie was about. It was a philosophical/existential masterpiece. You can't really compare MK because it's a video game...the point of this was the difference between MMA and WWE (real fighting and fake), so I don't see how MK plays into that. And yeah. I have the same problem with boxing as I do about UFC.
As for your other point...I agree. Lately, the fights do look a bit conspicuously fake, but back in the day, they sold it VERY well. And as for someone like Will Ferrell being able to do what these guys do...you must be crazy. The conditioning that those guys have to be in to be able to do some of the insane shit that they do without killing themselves is not something to be taken lightly. |
