Well, the DJ thing fell through. He ended up asking us for $3,000 when he starts at $1,000 and then pretty much said he's over-qualified, though he'll give it a try for that price.

Riiiiiiiiiight.

He's a former member of the band we'd already hired, and we were hoping getting him would then mean we'd have the band and music and MC stuff all figured out since they all know each other.

Anyway, not a HUGE loss. Especially since he was asking for what was half the cost of the venue.



Had a good Fathers Day with my dad, grandpa, uncle, and family eating lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Newport.

I wanted to actually have a conversation with Grandpa, but none of us could think of more than just, "How you doin'?" My uncle asked him how his coffee crowd is going and then Grandpa told us about how it's dwindling and how, most recently, one of his friends went on a trip to see his kids and Grandpa just got a notice that the man passed away. We're all just aghast and not sure what to say after that.

Anyone else have a good Fathers Day?

Have to go out to Phoenix next weekend for Brandon's grandmother's 80th birthday. The aunt's throwing a party that we won't be able to make it out to following weekend. We're going this next weekend because we can't make that party. Bran has mandatory CPR training that Sunday, and it's extremely unfeasible to drive out there Saturday morning, spend a couple hours there for a party, and then drive back that night.

The aunt just texted Brandon that it's such a shame that he won't make the effort to be at the party to be with his grandmother while she had all of her children and grandchildren present, especially since her sister just past away.

He called his mother as we were on our way to buy his grandmother a birthday present. The aunt's out there right now. I'm really hoping she won't be there next weekend.

Anyway, the family knows she's not invited to our wedding, and I never want to encounter her any time before it. I refuse to "fix" this or "patch it up."

By the way, her ex-husband got to spend Fathers Day with their daughter, whom he molested.

I just fucking can't any more with this bitch.

I don't consider her family. I pretty much draw the line at my in-laws being Brandon's parents (they've been separated 20 years now), his siblings, and his grandmother. And some of his cousins. Not his uncle. Not his aunts. Well, maybe his dad's brother, since Nick's pretty crazy and endearing.

You're lucky to not have serious family drama. Good god, is it the worst. Family is supposed to be your support network and you don't get to choose them. Being saddled with someone who disgusts you is fucking awful.

Anyway, I'm not the only one who's cut ties with her. Many of her friends have iced her out because of how she handled her daughter's situation (in other words, no one's allowed to say anything to the authorities, etc. to keep the father out of jail) and she recently made a scene at one of her friends' weddings.

I'm just glad Brandon's in agreement that she's not invited to ours.

When it comes to new wave, it begins and ends with Oingo Boingo for me. I'm not much of a fan of the genre otherwise.

I have more than a few favorite punk bands from that era. Favorite would be Bad Religion, only based on the fact that I've seen them live a few more times than others.

Funny story.

So last weekend when Brandon called his mother to ask what we should get Mary (the grandmother turning 80 this week) as a present and the aunt was there in the car ....

WEEEELLLLLLLLLL .....

Right after Linda hung up the phone with Brandon, the aunt brought up all the shit again from Thanksgiving and they got into a huge fight. To the point that they were screaming at each other in the parking lot of Arizona Mills, where they were planning to eat. Linda kept telling the aunt to let it go.

Amid the fighting, Linda points out that they should probably tone it down since the aunt's daughter (age 5) is in the car. The aunt screams something along the lines of, "Don't you fucking tell me how to raise my child!! You're such a shitty parent; It's no wonder all your kids are fucked up!!"

They then got back in the car and drove back to Mary's house in total silence.

Since they were going to Arizona Mills to eat, Linda got back in the car to go get food and when she got back the aunt had already packed up her stuff and left. She was supposed to be there another day.



So Mary later calls the aunt to let it go. Eventually the aunt called Linda to apologize.



Anyway, in keeping with the thread .... FUCK CANCER.

I'm currently in Phoenix. The temperature is 113 degrees F, which is lower compared with the average of 125 degrees. The worst we saw the thermostat today was 119.

First season of "American Gods" was ... OK.

This last season of "Silicon Valley" was ... eh, also OK.

We watched the two seasons out so far of Will Arnett's Netflix show, "Flaked," which was OK.

It was Super Hero Day at my center on Friday. Such a fun day. Lots of clients came wearing their hero shirts. A few actually dressed up in capes and everything.
