There's been an unsettling amount of bad cop stories coming out (see the Kelly Thomas thread) these days. Not sure if it's really a surge in bad behavior, that they're covered more by the media, or if social media's playing a bigger role in it and people are voicing their anger more than they used to about these things happening. | What stories I've seen have not included the police's perspective more than their report, "Well, he didn't seem to complain about anything during those 8 hours we had him."
We haven't seen the arresting/frisking officer or know her name or have any statement from her regarding why she stopped him and his friends. Also, in typing this into Google to find more information, I started typing "Philadelphia" and it got through the "Phila.." portion and suddenly popped up with "Philadelphia testicle" as the first result. Still, there is the whole phenomenon of DWB (Driving While Black), in which it's been shown that people of color are more likely to be stopped or detained for no reason, simply because of racial profiling and such. Again, there haven't been many details regarding the kid's run-in with the police since they haven't released more information than what's in the linked article. We don't know what he was doing other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. |

| I'm part of a group called "Daenerys Targaryan is Overrated" (link).
I've had trouble liking or understanding Dany since early season 2. Hell, late season 1, really. It's just that she's so self-entitled to a land that she doesn't even know. The people who run the page have read the books (and occasionally take to openly spoiling things), and get mad at the Dany fans who ignore her faults, especially the people who go on about how great her relationship with Drogo was. He was RAPING her. Anyway... all the hate has made me a Stannis fan, inadvertently. Spoiler regarding a major character: Spoiler: I now also know that Jon gets stabbed to death. Fucking hell. |

| Finished that volume of Runaways, I re-iterate that it's terrible.
Currently working through the collected omnibus of all of the Age of Apocalypse books. It's so freaking huge. I finished the main story with Legion, but just sort of stopped caring about the rest. More working through Mike Carey's Lucifer books now. Lucifer being a companion series to Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. The first story's pretty boring, but now I'm into the second and the art is better. |

| For me, when it comes to the phone, it's a combination of things. For one, I'm a shy introvert and even when I see someone I know well in public, I still hide so they won't come talk to me.
At the same time, I grew up answering the phone at the house and forgetting to give my parents their messages, so they'd get mad and I started just "letting the machine get it" so I wouldn't have to be held accountable. When the landline rings, I still don't answer it because it's never for me, and the people on the end would leave a better message than I'd be able to remember to tell the person for whom the call was. But I think the number one reason why I've come to hate my phone is that it's a 24/7 direct-to-me, demand hotline for the world. When I was working on the paper and had people calling all the time for one reason or another, usually sources getting back to me, I didn't have as much anxiety because no one could really talk to these people on my behalf for me, so I got used to it. Still, in the off-hours Brandon would have to answer my phone, even if it was friends wanting to go out for a beer. These days when my friend/boss calls, I get anxious because it's normally that he wants something or perhaps he wants to berate my work. I get the same way when he messages on Facebook, which is much more stomachable way for people to communicate with me. Random fact, just to keep on topic: I was excited to know the Germans had a word for pleasure derived from others' misfortune: Schadenfreude. And that they also have a word for weight gained from emotional over-eating: Kummerspeck (which literally means "grief bacon"). |

Even the Washington Post is complaining. Also, going to have to re-iterate the spoiler thing. I live on the westcoast. Things air on in the east and the official fucking pages for these shows and such will post immediately about the episode. I know. I know. The common answer is to stay off social media, but that's victim blaming and you know it.

Preface: I have no opinions on this kid or his music career (in the fact, I think I may have actually defended him when people would say, "Haha! He's gay!" and I'd go, "If he is, what's wrong with that? Why attack someone based on sexuality?"), but like any self-entitled celebrity there's a certain sense of schadenfreude I have in seeing them get what's coming to them. |
And I agree this case is vastly over-reported, but here we go. So the kid's possibly facing deportation back to Canada for his all-around bad behavior. A petition on the White House's website demanding the kid be forcibly removed from the U.S. has over 100,000 signatures, which means Obama may be the one to make the call on this one. Source Thoughts?
