Fuck you, guy beating his wife (girlfriend?) by the aquarium the other day. When Bran and I were out for a walk, not long after getting out of the car, we saw the same guy we'd nearly run over earlier with was I assume was his son (he darted out, jaywalking ahead of his carrying the kid by one arm), trying to force a woman (the boy's mother, most likely) into his car. She kept fighting back while he shoved and punched her sides. Once she was finally in the passenger seat she started screaming and he tried to cover her mouth. He saw us watching, slammed her door (the boy was crying through this), ran around the side, jumped in the driver's side and took off. She covered her face with her hoodie as she shouted, "I hate you!!"
We weren't sure what was going on, but took note of his plate and called the police to report what looked like domestic violence. It was just so alarming and I just wasn't sure what to do. I mean, at first it looked like they were play fighting, but it escalated quickly. In retrospect, we should have tried to stop it, but again we were just struck dumb. The thing that hit us the most was that this was in the presence and sight of the boy. The fact that there was a child in the equation. |

Obama is seeking Congress' approval to strike Syria. Chances are they'll say no. What will happen then?

So, woman walks into a plastic surgeon's office, the doctor claims he fell in love with her at first sight, and asks her if she's willing to have her body completely re-sculpted by him (lipo, implants, etc). She accepts and thus we get this video...
This strikes me as a sado-masochistic relationship of master and slave. Anyone else thinking that? (Last edited by Rogue on 08-31-13 03:10 PM) |

Also, the other thing to consider is that Syria's biggest ally is Russia. Russia's got a naval base there, they provide Syria with weapons, and this could get real ugly.

So this is going around now.
![]() Pretty sure students have access to libraries and computer labs and the clothing is most likely just prison uniforms, but yeah, you sort of get the point when it comes to all the privileges inmates have while the rest of us get jack shit for behaving ourselves. We can thank all the activists who've pushed for the beneficial things because anything less is cruel and unusual punishment. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 09-01-13 01:25 AM) |

Heading out to the Civil War re-enactment. Still sunburned and hobbling on my bandaged second-degree burned feet, but gonna go cheer for the North all the same.
BTdubs, how'd the nisei lesson go, Elara? (Last edited by Rogue on 09-01-13 12:55 PM) |

Go you. You teach the fuck out of them. Trying to remember what we went over in 7th, I just remembered we concentrated a month or so on Islam. You covering it with them?
Civil War re-enactment went well. We were right behind the Union artillery, and when they surrendered the officers ran over and hung out by us in the shade. Excitedly looking forward to hitting up the Natural History Museum some time this month since they opened up all their new areas and exhibits, which have been under construction for the past 5 years. |

I imagine they at least don't have to build California missions from sugar cubes (strangely enough I never had to do a mission model since I switched from private Catholic school to public and I narrowly dodged that bullet).
Got any special project you're doing with them? But yeah, I agree it's weird they're not getting world history at that age. As I recall from my experiences (I'm including 6th since some places count it as middle school): 6th - Mesopotamia, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and I can't remember what else (but from what I gather they're teaching more about India, China, and Israel now). 7th (I was in advanced placement, and in 7th the advanced history teacher also taught advanced English, so she combined classes. It was cool because she would usually find excuses to take us on field trips and then based lessons around that) - Medieval Europe and the Renaissance, Islam and Arab culture, Chinese and Japanese culture, and Africa. 8th (Also advanced placement, but different teachers for history and English) - American history mostly. The Civil War and slavery stick out the most for me. I think we went over the Revolutionary War and Constitution. Seemed like the Civil War took up most of the year. I don't even remember going over the world wars. - Our English teacher covered the Holocaust and Japanese Internment (though oddly enough he was FOR the internment and worded it like the government was playing a game of tag and the Japanese just sat in time-out before the war was over and they could go back to their lives. He left SO MUCH out). (Last edited by Rogue on 11-03-14 06:07 PM) |

There's something tragically funny about this.
SOURCE The man broke into a sleeping woman's house, raped her from behind, he was caught, sentenced to five years in prison and now he may have HIV. Sadly, they didn't report much on the victim, but the rapist also has three daughters, each from different women. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 09-09-13 04:08 PM) |

Servicemen are putting up signs like this on social media:
![]() More posted here There have been skeptics posting that they think this original pic could be bogus since he'd be identifiable by his ribbons (if it is in fact the uniform's owner whose wearing them), but there are many more just like it. Again, some or all could be a random person in a purchased/borrowed uniform (and it's possible they're ALL real), but what are your thoughts? |

Students at St. Mary's University, including 80 student leaders, apparently have been chanting this for the past 5 years. If the video's been pulled, it's a bunch of college students jumping up and down and shouting:
How in the world is this considered OK? Enough that many people are willing to mindlessly chant this? Source (Last edited by Rogue on 09-06-13 03:08 PM) |

I seem to be reading a lot of French things lately. Just finished the graphic novel "Last Days of an Immortal," an out-of-sequence sci-fi story about an alien working for philosophical police who lives on through clones he makes of himself.
Also reading "The Drac: French Tales of Dragons and Demons," which I'd picked up from the library on a whim when I felt like going through the myths and folklore section. It's all right. Not very gripping, but they're based on medieval stories so they're pretty simple. |

Well, Zimmerman's in police custody for allegedly pulling a knife and gun on his wife (who's been filing for divorce from him) and hitting her father. We'll see how this goes.

An 8 (YES, EIGHT) year-old girl in Yemen died this weekend after sustaining severe vaginal tearing from her wedding night with her 40-year-old husband.

So who's not busy is the question, I guess.
Applying around, but also writing at the moment. Took Brandon's band's photos for a press kit this weekend (along with attending my first ever family reunion) and wrote up their bio, which I'm polishing today. Need to write up the new briefs for my friend's podcast that we've been doing, though granted he hasn't really been up on posting them regularly despite us recording every week for a month or so now. And my neck is killing me from all the headbanging I did on Saturday night when we drove down to San Diego to see my friend's band play. It was an exhausting weekend. |
