You know... the board's been around 7 years. I don't think I've even seen seven different pictures of Mr. Xeogred.
I think you owe us a photo. |

Watching Clash of the Titans. Not the original one with Ray Harryhausen's effects, but the new one starring Sam Worthington. It's OK so far, but really CG heavy.

Yeah, I once got a speeding ticket while I was still on my learner's permit. I was driving my dad's car (which had a gas pedal I wasn't used to yet) and I was going by that dark section next to CSULB that everyone does 50 through.
Ever had a friend whose significant other was impossible to be around? |

Ha, didn't realize they would place the border there, but then again I'm not surprised having spent a chunk of my college years in the O.C., covering events in Fullerton and Santa Ana for the paper. Like just before an event, this speaker actually introduced a student speaker as being a "South County native," which was greeted with "oohs" and loud applause. South County is where the wealthier communities of Orange County are. I felt like I was in the South for a second. The O.C. is also notoriously RED and HATES Los Angeles.
Funny thing, Santa Ana has the largest Latino community in the state, supposedly. But I could swear San Diego's was larger. In all honesty, I love the Bay Area, BUT I will not argue that one end of the state is better than the other. I WILL however defend Los Angeles to the death if someone wants to play that stupid game. |

Yay, I'm not alone!
Yeah, I'm not deeply into Kitchen Nightmares, but Hell's Kitchen... ooooooh, I'm hooked. About to watch it in a few minutes. ![]() |

Free. I've had several jobs that were either unpaid internships or volunteer. The next lowest would be when I was on the Viking newspaper - paid $49 a week, flat rate.
If you could start a re-enactment event, what era would it capture and what sort of shows, activities and food would be there? |

I really feel you should go for it, especially getting to go to school there.
Yes, the money is intimidating, but really I feel it's a small price to pay for something you really want to do and become. If I were in your place, I would snatch this opportunity by the testicles and skip to the airport. |

Are these over? The news doesn't talk about London any more, switching to Fullerton ready to riot over the death of a homeless man beaten by cops.

Originally posted by Elara Pretty much police beat and repeatedly tazed this homeless guy (Kelly Thomas), who supposedly was mentally ill, and he died a few days later in the hospital. The guy's father came forward and has started this crusade against Fullerton. The chief of police suddenly took an indefinite leave of absence for health reasons, and videos are suddenly popping up of Fullerton cops beating up people in different incidences. The only footage of Kelly Thomas' beating was taken from far away on a cellphone: His father's been on TV every other day crying about how Kelly's last words in the video were of Kelly crying out in anguish, "Dad! Dad! Dad!" (which you can hear in the video above at about the 0:45 mark and onward). It's really graphic and I'd rather not show it here, but if you Google "Kelly Thomas hospital" and look at the images, you get the shot of him from after the beating. THIS is the image people are putting on posters and swarming the Fullerton police department carrying. |

I loooooove mustard. I'd say it depends on what I'm eating, but I think my favorites are honey mustard for dipping fries and other things, and stone ground for meats and bratwursts.
I just had some really good stone ground stuff in Vegas this weekend. It was meant for the American grill next door, but I put it on my barbecued pork from the Chinese place and it was freaking ORGASMIC. What is your favorite kind of metal (steel, titanium, copper, brass, gold, etc)? |

Fuck feeling like shit about a short series of thoughtless comments made by a friend about me on Facebook.
To the friend, fuck off. I'mma take a walk. EDIT: Great... now the shit has hit the fan. And I had no part in it. (Last edited by Rogue on 08-16-11 06:10 PM) |

I've said it many times before but FUCK MONEY. Fuck the greed over it, fuck needing it to do almost everything fun (even if something's free, you still need gas or train fare to get to it), and FUCK my complete lack of it.
I want to take this road trip up to Washington and Oregon next month, but I probably should get a job since my parents are on me about it and they're against me going on that trip. Seems like any time I leave town they take it as my not being serious about the upcoming Europe/Middle East trip. And on the note of the Facebook bullshit, it's beyond gotten out of hand. This might actually be life-altering. No joke. |

That's the thing. My dad actually JUST finished paying for the trip this week. He gleefully showed me the paperwork showing the balance owed as $0.
I mean, my mom keeps guilting me, saying, "Just get a job for a month. You don't understand how the job world works. If they like you, they'll WAIT for you. They'll bend the rules for you." Yeah... in this economy where they'll quickly find someone else who WON'T be out of the country when they need her. As for the Facebook insanity... yes. You know this person (or at least of them), but I'd rather not say anything until after this hopefully gets sorted out tonight. |

Read the three volumes of The Unwritten that are out. Looking forward to the fourth one in October, but we'll see if my library picks it up.
Started reading The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer. So far it's not bad, but I should REALLY read something good after it to balance out the pop culture anachronism. I mean, I love history re-imagined, but this is getting out of hand with everyone turning into a vampire hunter or zombie slayer. |

The funny thing about True Blood is it's based off this book series of which I read the first book, flipped out about it being awful on LiveJournal, and burned my copy.
And now it's a multi-million dollar cable program. Heh. Well, my other current guilty pleasure right now is mermaids. Just borrowed Splash from the library and watched the shit out of it. ![]() I discovered this sort of furry-like fandom where women make their own mermaid tails and sim around in open ocean. Stitch and I were going to crash their convention in Vegas, but apparently their event switched from three days to just Friday. |

All right, things seem to have been smoothed out, so crisis averted for now.
As for my parents, I don't know. Brandon and I are going to try selling things and saving the money. I WAS getting paid to watch my grandmother on the weekends, but my aunt seemed to put a stop to that by not letting her come over or otherwise Lola voicing in some fashion that she doesn't want to leave. Now the situation with Ben. I'm sorry, and I feel your pain. Brandon has been unemployed for three years almost. He quit working for Marty and Becky in December of 2008, and he DID have that Census job last year, but otherwise he's been collecting unemployment. Anyway, his claim ended a few months ago and we've been living off of what money I was able to earn for watching Lola or gifted money that was sent by relatives and family friends for my graduation. With no money from unemployment, no money for watching Lola, no gift money left, and my complete lack of motivation since being fucked over for this job I worked that I was SUPPOSED to be paid for I'm poorer than I've ever been in my life. I had $3 to my name yesterday and we weren't sure whether or not to put it into Brandon's gas tank or use it to get lunch since there's no food in the house. I've been living off of the generosity of friends, which is very hard to live with since it's always the same people giving and I have so few friends that I see nowadays. I actually loved Brandon's unemployment, because it was more time together and more flexibility in getting to do what we wanted when we wanted, we just had to live cheaply with what little he was collecting. But yeah, now that the claim has run dry, there's definitely been a strain. But not to take the focus off of you and your concerns with Ben. I mean, I know the feeling of not wanting to pick up work because you've been burned by a previous job. That FUCKING newsletter murdered my momentum and motivation to get to work writing and editing, but I'm kicking my ass over not starting on those freelance stories I promised this friend-of-a-friend local editor for a news site. Have you spoken with Ben about your worries? You made some HUGE sacrifices for him. You moved to the other side of the country, left everything behind that was familiar, especially family and friends. But I'm certain you realize this. It's just... communication is important, vital even, in relationships and marriage. I hope things work out with your new job, and hopefully when Ben finally gets back on the horse there'll still be jobs. (Last edited by Rogue on 08-18-11 06:18 AM) |
