| So... new e-mail finally. He pretty much backflipped once again on the font he wants.
He finally got down to giving some inclination of what he wanted, after beginning his e-mail with, "i had to take a break from this because I felt like I was digging a hole and getting nowhere." Thanks for making me wait around two days for that. I made another edit and mailed it off. He actually fucking wrote: "But I'm confused why I like the Book Antiqua bold when it's larger and the Book Antiqua bold italics when it's smaller?" Because I'm supposed to know WHY HE LIKES SOMETHING?! ... My life has become a Seinfeld episode: Or at least a strip from The Oatmeal. I have no idea why I'm trying so hard to get this done, but it's like this guy is self-destructive and will never be happy. One last edit and it's over. EDIT: OK, so I got another rather belittling e-mail saying I haven't made the changes he wanted, which I FUCKING DID. I sent him:

| Finally watching The Magnificent Seven. I'd started watching it a couple times throughout my life, but would always fall asleep. It's good, but definitely not my favorite western. Most of the actors that make up "the seven" freaking rock all the same -- Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, etc.

| The Fuck You still stands. I gave him the ultimatum and even went so far as to make a sampler using one of the pages from the newsletter, copying-pasting it four times over into a new InDesign document and changed the fonts four different ways and pretty much went, "Here's what they look like on the page, pick one."
He hasn't e-mailed me back in two days and wrote in his last e-mail to me, "I feel like I'm being punked." This man is 49. He founded this Asian activist group 20 years ago. I'm not sure if I respect him any longer. EDIT: I sent an e-mail to the president of the organization yesterday, explaining the situation as best I can and sent him the most up-to-date PDF. I haven't heard back from him either. For all I know they sent that to the printer and are going to let me just wait around for their responses that I'll never get. I was waiting by the computer for a response all day yesterday, for either of them, and got nothing. I'll be out the entire rest of the weekend, so I'll just try not to think of it. I guess what has me worried is how this might affect other work I'm doing. I don't know. I'm certain they can't sue me. I haven't been paid and I haven't signed any contract. If there's some sort of order put out for me to surrender file, it's all theirs. I've actually been feeling nauseous since submitting the ultimatum. | I've blogged. I used to blog for a friend's site, Geek Armada, but I got rather busy and stopped. I also used to blog for a Long Beach-based site on entertainment and things going on in the area, but I haven't worked on that since like 2005 or something.
The writing job that I'm doing is sort of like blogging. It's being hosted on Wordpress, like that university's paper was. But yeah, I've had a LiveJournal for years, but I haven't actively posted on it in a while. This thing. It almost feels like blogging has taken a dive since the advent of Twitter and Facebook. I used to follow dozens of blogs, but then many of them either faded away or converted to using one of the two. | Happy Independence Day!! Love, your local American Studies/journalism major graduate.
After hanging out at a friend of a friend's barbecue, Stitch, Brandon, and I headed up to the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and watched the fireworks shooting up all over the place -- from Pasadena, the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, East L.A., downtown, South Central, and every neighborhood in between shooting off illegal fireworks into the air. | Indeed! As I kept thinking and even saying to Stitch as we were watching all of the illegal stuff being fired over South Central and East L.A. it was like being a general watching battles happening in the distance.
The Hollywood Bowl looked like a volcano erupting in the hills. We could see some of the Rose Bowl from the other side of the mountains too. Dodger Stadium and some other spots were shooting off their own professional displays too. The only other time I recall seeing such a grand 4th of July jubilee was riding the Metro Blue Line right after Anime Expo a couple years ago. It goes through South Central, Compton, and other poorer neighborhoods where everyone is somehow able to get their hands on the good, illegal stuff. It was like riding through the fireworks. It almost seemed like people were aiming for the train. Pity there's no high point in the O.C. I'm sure being able to see Disneyland and Knott's at the same time would have been a trip. | Watching Dodge City starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. I'd love to finish it if only our PS2, which we're using as our DVD, didn't have trouble playing DVDs so much.
Pretty decent western so far. Errol Flynn is still just so damn badass. Seems like every Errol Flynn movie I've seen has Olivia de Havilland as the love interest, and honest I'm glad. They are great together. Shame about him dying so young. |

| So.. uh... interesting new development in my dealings with this organization.
I STILL have all of their newsletter stuff, and the guy I've been dealing with hasn't e-mailed me in a week. I e-mailed the president yesterday. As you can tell by our last correspondence (the e-mail above), he was saying that he would talk to this guy to try and get something going. So yesterday's e-mail to him was pretty much asking if he had spoken to the guy yet and informing him that I haven't heard anything in a week and I've still got the newsletter. This was his response:

| I think the main reason would be because he founded the organization 20 years ago.
He still dominates the meetings, almost acting as though he's still president, and the meetings seem to most often address issues that are more of a concern to him. Everything else falls by the wayside. Another point is that he is sort of the organization's talking head. Whenever there's a celebrity (Sarah Silverman, Adam Corolla, and M. Night Shyamalan to name a few) or organization that they want to take on, it's this guy who does all the talking and ends up on the news or on some other show or even DVD featurette stating the stance of the organization. It was this sort of thing that really made me respect him. He can be very abrasive and tenacious. It's just... since I've started having all of these dealings with him I've started to feel less and less respect for him, and all of those things I used to think were amazing feats against "the man" now just come off like the railings of some goon complaining for no reason at all. | I always interpreted the gods-who-used-to-be-human thing as when you die you get your own heaven. At least, this was how it came off when I was explaining the plot to What Dreams May Come to my eighth grade Advanced English teacher who took Robin Williams having his own interpretation of paradise as Mormonism.
All the same, as far as I can tell that video takes some of the extremes of the different Mormon beliefs (since, like all religions, not all denominations believe the exact same things as each other) and mashes them up. The issue of race, for example, as a bit skewed, making it sound as though all Latter Days Saints are racist. Joseph Smith supported abolishing slavery. I think it was Bringham Young who was the first to say dark skin was the mark of Cain, following Smith's death. Again, my apologies if my facts aren't completely straight. |

| Granted, but it's only on a channel you have pay extra for that doesn't come with any reasonable cable package, it's always only on while you're at work, and it's never available on Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, or through torrents. It is then canceled and never given a DVD release.
