| Resident Evil 4
Capcom Rated M Survival Horror/3rd Person Shooter Platform: PS2/GC Out of a possible 10: Graphics: 10/10 Sound: 9/10 Control: 10/10 Difficulty: 8/10 Story: 9/10 Resident Evil 4 will most likely go down in Videogame History. A redefining game in every sense of the word, RE4 has scared me, shocked me, and got me so riled up, that I can't see straight sometimes. Graphics: Crisp, clean and fresh, especially for the Gamecube. All of the textures look wonderful, and the character models are clean and vibrant. THe color scheme for the whole reflects the dark nature of it, but I do have a few minor complaints. There are many overused character models, and sometimes, the scenery can get repititous, especially in the Village. Other than that, I love the graphics. Sound: You hear the sound of heavy, shuddering breaths down a dark ahllway, but you see nothing. The hall is lined with prison cells, and it must be in one of them. The sound is one of the scariest things in the game, and you'll come across this scenario a lot. Also, the moments wherein you can hear the "VRRRRR! VRR VRRR!" oh the chainsaws is enough to make you crap yourself. Especially when you can't see your enemy. The voice acting is top-notch, too. Leon sounded a bit over-acted, but that's not really a major issue hear. It was still done very professionally. Be afraid... Control: I love the new over-the-shoulder view, as it can set in anxiety when you cannot see behind you. It's a lot beter to aim now wiht the laser scope on all the weapons (even the shotgun, curiously), and turning is a breeze with the quick-turn command (opposite push on Control Stick + B). Everything blends together well, and they didn't skimp on the controls, thankfully. Difficulty: Considering how long the game was, most of it wasn't all that difficult, as much as it was stressful and the "I don't wanna do this cause I know what'll happen; it'll come alive and kill me!" moments. The enemies aren't overly hard to defeat, but there are moments when you have to concentrate. The bosses were the biggest dissapointment. After killing the Mid-length game Boss in several shots, without him landing a single hit, I was like, "Come on, he's gotta have more than that." Oh well. Can't have everything. Story: The President's daughter is kidnapped, and taken to Spain. She is being held by a terrorist sect, and that's when Leon S. Kennedy comes on the scene! After taking down a hostile local, after about 6 shots with a handgun, Leon gets curious. These people aren't zombies... Could they be something else? Prepare for a multitude of Ganados, armed to nthe nines with axes, pitchforks and knives as soon as you enter the village, religious zealots wiht Morningstars, crossbows and Bazookas as you enter a creepy castle, and deformed freakish autopsies on the Island! You'll make new friends, and reaquaint with old ones in this tale that ties the series together nicely. You're in for a scare; it's Resident Evil 4! Final Score: 9.75/10 |
