Internet time still boggles my mind. I've been on message boards of some sort since I used AOL. 12 years ago.

Happy birthday to Xeogaming though.

That's awesome you found something you want to pursue! My sister is nearly finished with an associate's degree in culinary arts/hospitality. She either wants to be a baker, or own a butcher shop. *shudders*

At 25, I still don't know what I am passionate about, but not having gotten into the vet program, but wanting to stay in New Zealand and have a stable job, I've decided I want to get back into nursing. Though I wouldn't say it's my favorite thing in the world, I am really good at biological/health sciences, and enjoy it well enough.

Sorry to go off on a tangent. Glad you found something worth going after. Best of luck!

Even though not many will see it, but a HUGE thank you to -everyone- who has helped me out during my time trying to find a job. I have finally found one! I begin in a week! And it's a perfect job, Monday through Friday, daytime hours, public holidays off, etc, that PAYS well. I can still see my boyfriend every weekend, be home in the evenings... and I can finally LIVE in New Zealand, as opposed to be trapped in my room for days because I can't afford to do anything. It will be a glorious summer!

Neil Armstrong's parents... Before he went into space.

"Now, how would you feel, Mrs. Armstrong, if it turned out - of course nobody knows - but if it turns out that your son is the first man to land on the moon? What, how do, how would you feel?"

Rahhh!! I totally forgot about this, though I had told myself to check over the weekend to reply! Sorry for my lateness.

So, talking about myself, which is actually quite a difficult task for me. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I signed up for this, though I've enjoyed reading about everyone else, so I'll give it a go.

I'm 25, from California, currently living in New Zealand. I'm divorced with no children, and without much direction in my life right now. The only goals I have are to stay here in New Zealand with my boyfriend, who is quite possibly the greatest joy of my life right now. I really like playing little indie games on Steam like Terraria and Torchlight, and I tend to read a lot. Reading is something that I've always done more than anything else, and it's usually historical fiction or fantasy of some sort. Haven't read much in quite some time though. I don't often watch movies or TV, though lately it's been more and more. Just started watching a British series called Black Books, and of course I watch things like Top Gear, Dexter, Once Upon a Time, and uhh maybe a couple others that I've forgotten about.

If there's one thing I've found out about myself this year is that I am not really patriotic towards my home country. Of course I vote, attempt to keep up with the politics... But I really am just... not happy about it. I like more liberal things. Don't get me wrong, there are some things I absolutely miss about America, but I think it's only because it's what I've been surrounded by my entire life. People ask me what I miss... and all I can ever really think of is inexpensive tortillas and Sriracha.

Ah, I see.

No, I am currently not in school. I tried really hard for that veterinary program in the beginning. I really wanted it. That is, until I got a month into it. I started rethinking the cost versus what I was getting out of it. And then came the physics midterm. I don't know what it is between physics and I, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around it. I still love medicine and health science and animal (including human), biology. I tried really hard to get into another university, one that is closer to my boyfriend, and I'd be in Wellington as opposed to the middle of farm land. I think that also influenced my opinion. I was stuck in a small town around a bunch of sheep. I got into said university, gunning for an ecology and biodiversity degree. I couldn't get the financial aid necessary (I loathe America's education/financial system).

I found out I could get a working holiday visa and stay for another year. The plan was to go back to school in January, to see if paying on some of my loans in the meantime would help. But I think I've given up on that. I think my dream now is to go back into nursing. Helping my boyfriend edit some of his health-science papers really made me miss it. It's $75k for an international student for a bachelors in nursing. It's about $10k for a resident. I am going to see if living with my boyfriend will grant me residency, and in a couple years (once I can get NZ student loans), go back and get my nursing degree. It's solid, rewarding and paid fairly well, regardless of where you work. I don't know if that will happen before or after I turn 30. I hope before. I can get residence in a year, or a year in a half, depending on how things go.

My biggest fear right now is that I'm going to forever be stuck in a job that doesn't require some sort of higher education... And that thought really irks me. :/

Sorry for the novel.

The immigration process is.... Complicated.

The basics include being of good health and character and under a certain age (55 I think?). Good character meaning that you haven't got a criminal record of any kind. The health thing is so immigrants aren't going to be a burden on the public healthcare system.

To become a permanent resident, there are many paths. Mine would be living with my partner (significant other through marriage, civil union or de facto relationship). You can immigrate if you have a degree and want to work in a field that needs more people. You can get a work to residence visa if you find a job that earns $55k a year.

Essentially, it's an island. They want to restrict the amount of people who are citizens. The population of the entire country is almost the same as the population in Los Angeles.

I'm not exactly at a healthy weight (though walking every where these days may help me lose my last 10-15 pounds for me to be 'normal,' and I'm not in any danger for being deported. Same goes with my poor vision- it wasn't a factor.

Umm, I think everyone is doing fairly well. My stepdad and stepsister seem to be getting on well with the death of my stepbrother. My sister is doing well (even though she isn't speaking to me), my brother quit his job and my mom is just a trooper and more supportive than I could have possibly hoped for.

My sister... I love my sister; I love my entire family. She is under the impression that I simply don't care about my family, specifically her and her son, since I don't 'like' or comment on every photo and video she posts (which are all of the baby). I haven't really spoken to her since 21 September. It makes me sad really. Though I live so far away, doesn't mean we can't be supportive of each other. I'm not the only family member to be so far away either! Aunt and uncle in Hawaii, a cousin in Alaska, another in the Virgin Islands, etc. We're all so spread out, so I'm not sure what her deal is. (it's kind of a touchy subject)

I get on great with my brother though. He and I will always be buds.

This photo was taken by my mom at my best friend's grandparent's house. I was 17 years old and going to my senior prom with my best friend, Laura. The guy in the background was my "date," but really we were all just going as friends. There's another guy who is not in this photo at all.

17 year old self to 25 year old self: She would probably think that everything I've done is pretty exciting and not really something most people do. I think she'd be friends with me, just so she could hear my stories of immigrating to another country and am now dating the guy who was her best online friend at the time. I think she would be rather displeased with the lack of degrees and set career. To be fair, the 17 year old me didn't know where she would be when she was 25, and that thought scared her. I think she'd be scared for me if she knew where I was today. Or that could just be the current me thinking of my current self. She would tell me that life goes on, regardless of what happens, so take a deep breath and go slow.

25 year old self to 17 year old self: I would think that she is the happiest at that moment than she had been in years. I would think she is a bit oblivious and extremely naive of the world. She has a lot going for her, and I think there are many paths she could have gone down that would have been much... smoother. Less traumatic. But that is what gave me my life experiences, so I suppose it isn't too bad.

This photo brings back a lot of nostalgia. It reminds me to remember that happiness I felt that year when things are going tough. We have a lot in common still. We're both dreamers, we are both tough and try really hard to push ourselves past obstacles we are facing. We both want what is good for us, and to learn as much as possible about things we enjoy. We still enjoy escaping in a book and going on long walks while stopping to smell the roses and flowers. We are explorers who want to travel the world. I miss that naive me. I wish I could have stayed ignorant to a lot of things that I've gone through.

That's kind of an odd question, because it was only a few months later when I started dating the man I married. Through her hardships, she was glad to have someone to take care of her, even though that wasn't really the case.

My current boyfriend is quite amazing and ever the gentleman. Good manners, good looking (dashing I dare say!), very intelligent and usually pretty easy going. He makes me laugh. We've been dating since around March... and I still feel giddy and special and happier than ever when he hugs or holds me.

Other than my best friend Laura (who's in that photo you posted), and my mom, if it weren't for him and his family, I would most likely be back in the States right now. He has been helpful financially, mentally, physically and emotionally. I really do love him to pieces.

Since we had so many years before actually meeting, to get to know one another, there wasn't a whole lot in the way of breaking the ice. When I first arrived in NZ I stayed with him and his family; he even picked me up from the airport. One of those first nights at his house before I went to bed, he specifically asked for a "proper hug." One or two nights after that we were sleeping next to one another.

It felt extremely "right" when we were lying next to one another in bed one afternoon and we both simultaneously put our arms around one another. The next time I saw him after going to university we shared our first real kiss. I still get chills thinking about it!

Though neither of us know where we will be in the near or far future, and we seem to both be too nervous about making plans, since there's the possibility that I might not be able to get a residence visa to make plans together as a couple. We both want to be together and we have both hinted at living together, owning a house and having a family (in the far future).

I guess we shall see how things progress.

Hmmm... I may have been around for Masters of Darkness, but I'm not entirely sure I posted much, if at all. There seemed to be a message board war going on at the time (at least, that's how it seemed).

I'm not entirely sure why I come back so much. I'm on almost every day, I just don't post a whole lot, never have. I like you all well enough, and most of the time you all have a lot of interesting things to say. I get a lot of my news from here as well, from quirky to political.

I guess the main reason I stick around is the nostalgia. I've been on message boards for over 10 years now. The first message board I was ever on I was the one where I met my current boyfriend. It was a Final Fantasy XI board, a game neither of us ever actually played, hah. Being on a message board is essentially the main memories I have of being a teenager. I spent more time on boards than anything else, it seems.

The only time I feel like I've ever really surprised myself is the amount I have been able to drink in the past without feeling sick or getting a hang over.

Oh, and also my driving during an autocross race (a race against the clock in your car in a course made of cones) in my Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo. I was rockin', drifting every corner without losing control, getting quite possibly my fastest time of the day. Then I realised just WHAT I was doing and freaked myself out, tried to over correct how I was drifting, and proceeded to ignore my brother's advice of "DON'T BRAKE!" Needless to say, I spun out, and didn't even get to finish my lap. Surprising myself in the middle of an action was horrifying.

Hah, well, I've only raced a couple times, both just for fun. I was involved with cars quite a bit through my ex, and I'm embarrassed to say (as a girl) that I know a bit about cars.

I raced my little 300zx at the autocross, and I raced an old beat up 1990 Ford Escort at the same autocross the year before. I honestly think I did it because I was pressured by my ex and my brother. I had more fun the second time around though. My first time ever going around any track was in that Escort, and as soon as I was finished I had such an adrenaline rush, my hands were shaking. My ex came up to my window and pretty much said that I sucked at this. It made me not want to do it again and kind of made me cry, because I had originally only tried it because he wanted me to.

I did however enjoy a little street racing from stop lights. Especially against little kids in their Hondas and loud mufflers. It was also really fun when my tires would chirp going from 2nd to 3rd gear.
