I also read an article the other day about how a microorganism found in soil will "eat" tumors and leave healthy, human tissue alone, and there is no adverse reaction.

What worries me, however, is that because of these government and pharmaceutical backed therapies like chemotherapy and radiation are currently what is mostly prescribed, that if there was an actual cure for any type of cancer, it wouldn't do well. It's unfortunately all about what and who makes the most money, not who can save the most humans.

But don't get me wrong, I'm extremely excited for progress!!

Posted on 10-06-11 04:20 PM, in Ancient Aliens Link
I watched the first episode of season 1 as well, with the figurines that when made larger (and to scale) could actually fly. It made me think that it was humans traveling back in time rather than aliens. Humans, at some point in the distant future create a time machine, decide they want better technology earlier, so teach the ancient Egyptians, Incas, etc how to fly. Mother nature, to prevent any sort of paradox, made it so that these things were forgotten through time… And all that's left to do is conspire about it.

The loss of a close family member is hard.. and I'm sorry to hear she has passed on. And as Elara said, so young! Cry your heart out, there's no shame in that.

Posted on 11-12-11 04:05 AM, in If you have a 4G phone you're wasting money Link
My cell phone is… well, everything. Phone, text, email, Internet, gaming platform.. Sad, huh? But, while I usually text more than anything else, I do chat on the phone with some friends who don't live near me.

Also, because I don't have a "permanent" home… I move around a lot, it seems… from my ex's house, to a house with a roommate, to my mom's and now I'm going to New Zealand… There is no "home phone." My mom doesn't have a house phone, and neither did the other to previous places I lived. *shrugs*

As for 4G? HAH. I don't really care so long as I can do what I want on my phone. My brother in law and a few other friends were in San Diego, and he was like "Oh, cool! I'm picking up 4G!" I couldn't help it, I snickered at him.

Posted on 11-15-11 07:53 PM, in Not looking forward to Thanksgiving through Christmas Link
Though not too many family members of mine will be present, there are the usuals: Grandma, Aunt, another aunt and an uncle, a cousin or two, my mom, step-dad, sister, brother, stepsister and -maybe- my stepbrother. There was supposed to be a huge gathering of family this year, but my sister's wedding on the 4th kinda through that off a little.

I'm also hoping to have the best Thanksgiving ever with as many of these people as possible, because it'll be my last Thanksgiving for five years. It's not exactly celebrated in New Zealand.

Despite the drama… having lost my dad when I was younger, it's brought the entire family a little closer. I truly cherish my family and the limited amount of time we have to spend together despite the large amounts of dysfunction.

Ouch, after reading your post, Rogue, my "fuck you" pales in comparison. But.. fuck having to be awake before the sun comes up because the guys broke my car last night. And I agree, fuck the drivers out who think that the holiday is an excuse to drive like an asshat. v.v

That is heartbreaking to hear, Rogue. I think someone should definitely call, Adult Protective Services. I mean, despite her illness, no one deserves to live like that, with people like that! I know it's hard because it's family… but it all sounds so fucked up! =/

I uhh… haven't got anybody anything… yet.

Things prevent such kindnesses. Like trying to save money to go to New Zealand, bills, not working full time, too much school, not enough time… etc.

First of all, that's awesome, Nelrith! I'm happy for you! Just don't get burnt out…

Typically people go for a class that is either too easy and for the sake of it being so, or they stick to things too close to their major.

Yeah, that really is typical. And I've come to notice that I got REALLY bored with my major classes even more after a while, downright hated them in some cases. I think that's why I ended up picking up another major and acing all of the classes for it.

So, the community college I currently attend is trying to make it so that you don't get funding if you take the "oddball" classes that don't line up with your major. They say it's to get people to transfer to universities quicker, but… well, first of all, not all people are transferring to university, and secondly, how are we supposed to become well rounded people, if we can't afford to take some extra "fun" classes?

It's also becoming mandatory to choose a major in your first year of attendance… and if you decide to drop a class after the first day (like the class isn't what you wanted), they're going to start charging. =/

I'm glad I was accepted into university in New Zealand! I don't have to worry about too much of this stuff in a couple weeks… until I have children.

What's awesome about other countries is that once you take your general education classes in their equivalence of high school level… you never have to take them again. I wish I would have found this out earlier; I'd have been long gone by now!

I'm happy. This week marks the end of the semester.. which means I never have to attend this college again!

More importantly, I received my passport with new, shiny student visa in it yesterday! I'm so happy I'm practically bouncing up and down. All that's left is packing!!!

Posted on 12-17-11 01:50 PM, in SOPA Link
So, the American government is trying to censor the internet. This isn't much of a debate, as none of us would like to see that happen. This is something we should all be trying to stop, as it shapes not only our futures, but the world's future, as America often sets a standard for the rest of the world.

Now, I know the video is a bit long.... but it is very informative! Watch, listen and learn, and hopefully something can be done to prevent SOPA from passing!
