Skynet's not far along now. ![]() Actually the Asimo was introduced way back when I was in high school. It'll probably take even longer before they get this thing off the ground. Reminds me of the Mechanized Propulsion Systems guys who come around to anime conventions every year swearing up and down that this is the year their mech starts walking and so on. I always thought the Asimo walked like an elderly Asian lady. (Last edited by Rogue on 11-14-07 07:42 PM) |

Yeah as I re-read my words, I meant to say it was more of a likeness than a blatant stealing as it might sound when reading over it. Moore might have inspired them, but it wasn't just flat out lifted from his work.

Yeah outside of the occasional show I don't watch much TV these days either.
Found the episode on YouTube. The Solvang jokes start some time after the 4 minute mark. The jokes are pretty terrible, but hey whatever: |

I can see Nathan in both of them. Odd.
Especially since Adrian Pasdar had a beard for the first few episodes of season 2. |

Just got back from driving like a bat out of hell back from San Clemente where time passes like molasses in January ... in Antarctica.
Like that would make a difference. ![]() Drank my first can of Monster tonight. Granted it was Monster Java Loca Mocha, but still. Never had the stuff before much less any other energy drink outside of the amount of Red Bull it takes to make a Jager Bomb. |

Good grief I just had to empty anything that I truly cared about out of my room and pile it all in the bathtub since there have been builders in my house redoing all of the ceilings expect those in certain parts of the house.
Before having to do all that, my bed was in the center of the room with piles upon piles of junk stacked all the way around it, along the walls, on top of every surface because my room's been in a moving-out limbo for the past couple months, waiting for the builders to get done renovating my new room. There's just so much stuff on the floor that I don't know what to do with. Most things that anyone would consider junk have some sort of sentimental value and for some reason it hurts to part with it. Either way, sorry for drifting onto my own room insanity. Godspeed you on this endeavor, Nagis. ![]() |

There's nothing else to this other than to say that I'm almost ashamed of how much I laughed when I watched this.
The joke is old, out-dated and so on, but I still laughed. |

It's just for fun. Don't go all hysterical or anything.
Not sure how you really could make money after your death and "selling your body to science" isn't really viable pre-humously, but what the hell. It's an Internet meme. ![]() $5090.00 |

Just for the sake of simplicity, I removed your layout.
If I remember right, there was a guy in Alaska who built and then sold his own mecha that he was able to get to shoot nails and fire. Still have yet to find footage of it. I dunno, which is better though--having a robot with smooth and fluid movements or have calculated "robotic" moves? |

Originally posted by Super Hiro That he is. ![]() It's really funny seeing him as Magneto sometimes considering how much lay he got in the comic book. Mystique was putting out for him every chance he got. And if I remember right, there's a secret gag reel from X2 that have a lot of gay jokes with Ian like when they're sitting around the campfire shortly after he and the X-Men join forces against Stryker he and Rebecca are sharing a hot dog. I got to see the reel once at a convention, it's fucking hilarious. Anyway, back to the OP. I don't really get the idea of drawing so much attention to the character's sexuality, although now it's justifies a lot of the slashers out there who go for making characters gay to fit their fantasies and so on. Who knows? Maybe it explains the tension between Dumbledore and Voldemort or Dumbledore and Snape? I'm pretty sure the magickal world of HP is a lot less homophobic. ![]() |

Went and saw it in IMAX 3D.
Outstanding. PG-13?! It's like watching someone playing a videogame that's a cross between God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. Seriously. Still, I love it. ![]() |

In some Buddhist monasteries, they did have spare rooms set about for the monks to have intercourse with local women as they saw sex as a spiritual act.
Just sayin'. ![]() So in working out my character a bit more with Cairoi, we've made it so that Cally's power involves having to imagine everything entirely. Example: If she simply creates a bird, it could come out resembling a bird, but it wouldn't have any internal organs or anything of that nature so she has to think of every detail which as one would imagine could get pretty exhausting. She trains herself to think of the basics and more significant parts very quickly, but otherwise she only uses the power when necessary or when the situation isn't crucial. Hence, this should cut down on the idea that my character can just god-mod whenever she feels like it. ![]() |

Yeah, the whole notion of sex being a spiritual act wasn't as much of a commonly held belief as the idea that sex is a distraction from enlightenment and so on and so forth. Celibacy is definitely the more thoroughly accepted mantra.

They definitely put in some interesting twists in there. The story, which is the oldest still-existing tale in the English language, was rediscovered by monks who when transcribing it, not only cleaned it up, but added in what Christian references they could. This retelling of Beowulf feels like Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary took that story and threw the gore and sex back in (granted there wasn't much of it in the movie. Probably why it got PG-13?).
The ending was intriguing to say the least. And I completely agree. I swear Queen Wealthrow kept looking a lot like the queen from Shrek 2, as did the other women who just looked like random CG'd figures. Interestingly enough, Grendel's mother has Angelina's face EXACTLY. (Last edited by Rogue on 11-18-07 04:29 PM) |

Though the makers of it have been quoted as saying the movie is "enhanced live action," it's actually motion capture, in the same vein that new video games are being made, such as Force Unleashed and so on. The effect is very rotoscope-like, though, reminiscent to A Scanner Darkly.
After a while, there are moments when it doesn't seem animated at all. In my comment, I meant it say that of all the female characters, Angelina comes out the clearest and most resembling herself, whereas Robin Wright Penn's character is somewhat blockish like she came out of another CG film. Really, it's almost unfair to just call Beowulf CG. It's almost more in the same grouping with 300 and Sin City, where in both films everything's shot on a blue/green screen while the actors are real. It's like Beowulf took the extra step and made everything computer rendered, but with the actors still performing as they would. |

So yesterday, as Zoso and I were walking out of the movie theater after seeing "Beowulf," we were approached by a girl asking if we wanted to watch some ads for movies and tell her what we thought of them. She was wearing a Neilsen Media Research shirt.
If you have any familiarity with Neilsen, you'll know that they are the ones who indicate to companies and networks what should be cut from the market, what shows should be canceled and they pretty much hold many of the cards when it comes to what people see or get to buy as they gauge what people are doing. I jumped at this opportunity to be a small part in this deciding what the public might be seeing (for the record, Neilsen LOVES getting their hands on people in their late-teens to mid-20s since they consider our age range to have dispensable income that we spend on entertainment as opposed to bills and such). True to Neilsen's nature, along with the questions about what we thought of the trailers, they asked us what shows we like watching that are currently on (generally whenever they ask someone these things or whenever a Neilsen family reports watching certain shows, they claim every 1 person who reports watching it represents 40,000 people. Enough people reporting in can save a show. Both Zoso and I claimed Heroes, My Name as Earl, Mythbusters, and Family Guy as shows we watch seeing as The Simpsons is probably safe ratings-wise). They showed us two different ads for the next big spoof movie entitled "Meet the Spartans" which looks like there really isn't any discernible pattern of which they're making fun, it's just making fun of anything and everything that's pop culture. Near as I can tell what the story is, it's the Spartans of "300" pretty much reenacting the movie, but with Deal or No Deal, The Apprentice, Spider-Man 3, Happy Feet, Paris Hilton, and other pop culture references thrown in as gags. I flat out said that the only reason I would watch it is because of the whole 300 thing (and because Kevin Sorbo's in it somewhere) and said that the whole spoof movie thing is completely overdone these days especially since they've reached the point of where there isn't any coherent pattern other than poking fun at what was popular this year. The girl interviewing me didn't write down most of what I said. ![]() |

Whoa, Belial. That's outstanding. ![]() And Katana, thanks for asking about my dad. He's fine these days. The wound closed up and while there's a huge indentational scar that goes from the middle of his neck and down a foot on his back, he's otherwise lost 100 pounds from eating healthier and getting some exercise, he doesn't need insulin, and he takes meds that help control his sugar level (or was it blood pressure? He takes the stuff before he eats and when he doesn't eat soon enough he can feel either his blood sugar or blood pressure dropping and he gets irritable). It was just devastating at the time. Thankfully diabetes isn't near the curse that people used to think it was. So among things I'll be doing for the first time, I'm driving to Phoenix on Thanksgiving morning to Zoso's family. It will be my first time driving a reasonably long distance with nothing around but my car and the road. Now while I've been on many road trips before, I've never been the person driving. I drove part of the way from San Clemente late last week, which is an hour away from home and, for the first time, I drank a whole can of Monster. There's plenty of civilization between Long Beach and San Clemente, though. From here to Phoenix is desert. |
