EDIT: I should add that I didn't write this thing. It's just another of the many surveys I've been getting all over LiveJournal. I'm sure MySpace people are plagued with these as well.

Marvel (and many other comics) are famous for spoofing famous people into the monthlies. X-Men does it all the time. I can't count the numbers of jokes the writers have snuck in of people confusing Storm for Halle Berry (One of them was Bush). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Originally posted by Xander Well the Blue Sun Corporation was the one that was doing things to River, but yeah, the men that work for Blue Sun were called Blue Hands, so I did mean them. Joss referred to Blue Sun as a cross between Coca-Cola and Microsoft since it was this all-encompassing corporate-monopolizer. He wanted to do more with Blue Sun in the series, but since it was cut so much shorter than he wanted, the movie was the tie-up of that. But to answer the new trivia question: I'm going with Jayne's hat. Other than it appears before he even opened the box, it also has different amounts of packing material on it at different points of the episode. "How's it sit?" On a side note, my mom and I are knitting that hat for my friend's newborn daughter, Jayne. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 12-24-06 08:10 PM) |

The Christmas celebrations around here were pretty good. Dinner party with my mom's brother's family and a few family friends. And tonight was a party with Zoso's family playing games and whatnot.
Zabuza, Zoso and I hung out in the old Mexican part of L.A. for Las Posadas. Good stuff. |

That's funny. They just took a typical Princess/Royal Caribbean cruise out of San Diego and just put a so-called theme on it, but in place of the washed up television actors who are normally on cruises to "scenic" Ensenada, it's Firefly people. ![]() I'd like to see what bad lounge singer they'd put on that boat. Time was the cheesy cruises to Mexico's not-so-hot parts was just an excuse for southern Californians to go out and gamble over International waters. While fan gatherings are really fun, this just sounds like a quick grab at filling those tiny cabins with fans who'll throw money at anything to get a piece of Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin. I'm still holding out for Flanvention. I mean, sure the con planners gouge you for these things, but whatever. Have tons of fun if you go, Xander. |

Originally posted by Xander At the moment it's questionable because Flanvention 2 was recently announced as cancelled. Figures for Booster Entertainment, which is odd since it's all over their site who they're planning to be going on and they won't let me log in to check ANYTHING. There are other Firefly gatherings, but I know most of them really rape you on the ticket prices. EDIT: Booster's being investigated by the police and are apparently not in the position to refund Flanvention 2 tickets or offer any future cons. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-27-06 06:15 PM) |

I'd been meaning to start a thread about resolutions. I figure any excuse to make some self-improvements at your own pace is worth investing some time in.
Since I try to make resolutions that are more for mental nourishment and a bit more for fun, my list isn't so much the typical lose weightexercise morekeep everything clean. Ones on my list I managed to keep this past year: - Spend more time with the boyfriend's family. - Finish at least 10 full novels (With all the schoolwork and other things cluttering up schedule, I often don't sit down much to read leisurely). - Visit at least 1 museum a month. - Comic-Con. - Attend at least one premiere. - Meet at least 3 celebrities (Yeah, I'm lame, but I did it and exceeded it). - Leave the state on 3 different occasions. - Get published in at least 1 magazine or newspaper. It's been a fun year with a lot of new and great experiences, but it went WAAAAAAY too fast. I still gotta figure out the list for this year. Best of luck and good will in the new year, guys. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 12-31-06 01:51 AM) |

YOU ARE WARNED!
My apologies if the video has been removed. I know some of you will argue that this belongs in Video Hut or even Debate, but this is history that we are watching. Despite it being graphic, I feel that those who want to watch this should be allowed. I do realize that watching executions is a VERY delicate subject, but once again I'm posting this to share a viewing of history. Please be respectful in the comments. NO FLAMES! Do feel free to discuss. |

Originally posted by Elara Zoso and I were a tad annoyed with the strange way this was shot, but we figured this was a hidden camera operation. However, it did seem like there were several cameras in the room. According to a few news outlets, some of the things Saddam was uttering before his hanging were comments directed at people who were taunting him. I checked to see if this was on YouTube yet, as the video was posted to a community on LiveJournal, and found only joke videos people post out of speculation (Much like the joke ones people made claiming it was Steve Irwin's death). I went with my boyfriend Zoso (Brandon)'s mom to the vet this morning when she was flipping out over her cat, Willie. He contracted jaundice practically overnight, though we aren't sure how.
|
His normally white with pink complexion had yellowed (a huge sign of liver failure). While I didn't really care for Willie in life (he was kind of a bastard), he was cute and a sweet cat with others and loved to play fetch. What really breaks my heart was holding him and petting him just before the nurse took him away and he was purring and when he looked up at me, he seemed to smile with his jaundice yellowed (normally dark green) eyes. While I absolutely abhor any thought of an animal having to die (though guiltily I am not a vegetarian), at least Brandon's mom (with whom I was crying my eyes out) got closure when it comes to the death of a pet. When my cat Harrison disappeared, I still cry and think of him being harmed by someone or something out there. The mere thought that he's alone and scared makes me upset. When my grandmother's dog lost her sight, smell, and hearing, and she stumbled blindly around the backyard, the notion of putting this animal that I had grown up with to sleep made me horribly uneasy. Anyone else ever have to put a pet to sleep? To me, while it is cutting off their suffering, it feels like I'm signing the death certificate of a family member. Planning on seeing it. Gong Li (or Li Gong depending on which culture says her name) is absolutely lovely and I'm amazed to finally hear of a movie from the region that's coming to the States and isn't starring Ziyi Zhang (who despite being Chinese is in EVERYTHING, including Korea's big Musa the Warrior).
|
Sure, she was really only a minor part in Hero she was still who the American put on the posters and DVD covers for the movie's release with Tarantino's name on it. But back to the subject. I'd heard a lot of mixed reviews, but mostly great ones. I'm sure I'll love it, though. EDIT: I should note that the Ziyi Zhang cracks were all purposely exaggerated. Of course, she isn't in EVERYTHING, but she does tend to star in many things. Not Stephen Chow's films it seems. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 12-31-06 07:51 PM)

Originally posted by Logos That was actually something I wondered about while sitting in the waiting room afterward. This woman was there with her son's guinea pig, and was bringing it in for "the shot." She simply said she was "tired of watching it suffer." Not to open a can of Terri Schiavo worms here, but it bothered me that putting an animal down was perfectly all right because she was "tired" of watching the guinea pig sit in its cage and not doing anything in its old age of 6. Granted in cases where the animal is in extreme pain and a life that's nothing but lethargy, pain, and helplessness is not a life at all, we don't go to nursing homes and knock out the elderly because there's no life left in them. I'm sure animals have a better grasp on mortality, being animals they know what's important and their instincts and intuitions come from a primal nature. I suppose we personify our pets because we grow close to them and believe their just as human as we are. In the end, putting Willie down was probably the best thing for the situation. The initial costs of him being admitted into the animal hospital was $500. They wanted to keep him for 2 weeks at $100 a day, on a drip IV. After getting a second and third opinion with other vets, they said that 90% of the time, the cat doesn't make it through even after all of the hospitalization. I do agree that it was much more humane, but it still broke my heart to have to watch it happen.

While I can see why most of those would be there, I simply don't agree with the placement of some and the order in general.
|
Really it is all a matter of personal taste, but films like "There's Something About Mary," "Four Weddings and a Funeral," and "Bill and Ted" definitely wouldn't be anywhere on my top 50 list. Then again it is a British list, and the Brits (and Australians and Europeans, in general) find all sorts of things funny that we don't. Hence Mr. Bean's popularity. Originally posted by DragonXander Rowan Atkinson is funny, but I don't care for the Mr. Bean character. I don't know what it is, and I'm glad it evokes happy memories for you, TP, but it's just not me. Naked Gun either. Bill and Ted, while also amusing, aren't the greatest for me either. They're sort of like Napoleon Dynamite humor, pre-Napoleon Dynamite, in that they're all about righteousness and not swearing so much. Bogus Journey was pretty campy, though. To add to my earlier post, Dumb & Dumber before Clerks., Dr. Strangelove, Pulp Fiction, Big Lebowski, Princess Bride, Heathers, and Evil Dead II? I think not. ![]() Furthermore, the list is interestingly lacking in Robin Williams. While I'm not really a fan, he did put out quite a bit of great things. I'd add to the list: Tootsie Galaxy Quest As Good As It Gets Waiting for Guffman (or in place of that A Mighty Wind) Krippendorf's Tribe Kentucky Fried Movie Orgazmo (or even Team America) The list could go on. Sorry, I'm just picky when it comes to entertainment sometimes.
