Kittybob (many of you know her as Christina) JUST had a baby.
For the past few months she'd been going on about people thinking she was pregnant because had she gained a bit of weight and her stomach had gotten a bit larger, but she fended it off saying she was just fat. Seriously, none of us, including her, knew she was pregnant until her water broke. OH MY GOD!!! Well, I'm just really, REALLY excited right now and I'm off to her house to see this MASSIVE surprise. EDIT: Now that I've just gotten home and seen what I wrote in my extremely excited posting, the title should read "friends." Christina named her baby, Jayne Marie, which was after the father's grandmother, Jane, and she just chose to spell it differently. I laughed when I mentioned the "Firefly" reference and she pulled back and laughed in absolute astonishment. Jayne is her favorite character and she didn't even think about him when naming her daughter. Apparently now, it really is a girl's name. ![]() I told her she should knit the orange cap for Jayne, and she laughed in agreement. I'm so freakin' excited. While not particularly adding to the debate, but more adding to Shaddow's point, it reflects high school in that all the minorities had their own pride clubs, but white pride clubs were strictly forbidden.
When I started interning at Kaiser Permanente, in high school, the program had all of the interns go through racial sensitivity training. It was bizarre. In one of the exercises they had placed the four major races on each corner of the room and asked questions like, "Which race, outside of your own, would you rather not be?" and you had to walk to the corner with the race you choose. Being biracial (Half-white, half-Filipino), the constant "race outside of your own" stipulation in every question made it difficult to not convey looking racist (especially since I don't look very Filipino), and only choosing black and Latino. People actually broke out into tears during the various exercises. When we were segregated into different groups with one of them simply called "Mixed," I got all of the crazy people who were weeping about not being accepted and having these radical ideas about how our group should be regarded as gods to the "blinded rest." What. the. fuck? I have never consciously thought about race in this regard. I never sat down and thought to myself, "Self, your mom and dad are two different shades of people. Go you!" Seriously though, growing up around all these people of different races, I thought everyone's life was like that and so I never really took into account, "Hey, that man's black. This is how I should act around him so he won't hate me." I OFTEN forget Zabuza's gay. I just don't remind myself that he is when we're hanging out. I think if we have to constantly remind ourselves to be sensitive just because someone was born another color or is of another sexuality, THAT'S what's problematic. I take Morgan Freeman's interview with Mike Wallace, where the subject was approached, to heart. When asked about the racial issues, he said to the interviewer, "Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man. And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You wouldn't say, ‘Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.’ You know what I'm sayin’?" (Article seen here) I think it's people Balkanizing themselves that's the issue ("These are our words, you can't use them"), but to many, asking them to give that up, to them, is like telling them to give up their culture and assimilate. I don't have a straight resolution on this one. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-21-06 04:58 PM) |

Yes, this is the very same Christina. Dated Garrett for a while. Whom I was trying to get in a relationship with Pat, and whom Pat once in a while considered the idea of dating.
The father's her current boyfriend, Jayson. Seriously, he never got that talk that all boyfriends dread hearing: "I'm pregnant and I want to keep it." No... he got: "The baby's crowning, will you be cutting the umbilical cord?" In the matter of hugs, however, when I went to hug her last night, I didn't get within gentle nudging distance before she had to pull away because her chest is all tender and sore. But I'm sure she'll be ready for hugs eventually. ![]() (Last edited by Rogue on 12-15-06 03:41 PM) |

Well they seem to be coping all right. Christina's just completely taken with motherly love. I mean, she's just all "AWWWWW!!!" and "She's so adorable!" and all those things you hear new mothers go on about while they look over their sleeping newborn.
Jess (Jayson) seems fine. He has the fatherly pride, but when I saw him he still had hints of the WTF-look he had when Jayne was born. The most ironic thing (and this is why I was so shocked), her gynecologists had told her that she couldn't have children and every time she'd incidentally gotten pregnant, she'd miscarry. She really was upset the last time she miscarried because she wanted to carry it to terms. When she told me her period had stopped, she'd said it was because it was the sign that her life of possibly carrying a child was over. She was even more upset about this because Jess had been going on about wanting children in his later years and she felt disappointed that she couldn't provide them and she'd worried that he'd probably leave her. Well... To be honest, when she was starting to show, even I was denying it because of what she'd told me about not being able to carry and I didn't connect the two. It wasn't until late October, while I was looking at her at a profile one night that I noticed that she really did look pregnant, but again I just dismissed it as her gaining some weight. We didn't really get to hang out much in past couple months since she dropped the class she had with Brandon and me and she had gone back to work slaving at Pizza Hut, so when we'd see her, her belly was hidden behind a counter. And she was trying to find the right way to propose to Jess. ![]() |

Visually, that IS Bodom.
It looks like someone took a recording of them performing and "synched" a really bad midi of "Final Countdown." You'll notice on some parts where there are words, Alexi's looking down and not singing into the mic. If you guys already addressed this in the metal thread, sorry for stating the obvious. I just don't look in that thread. |

I'm sure most of you already knew this (especially since these things are all over certain states and have had signs for the past few months about going out of business), but the big chain music/DVD store is shutting its doors and it's in its final days.
(For the Long Beach/Paramount members, the WOW! store on 2nd and PCH is on its last week, the one of South and Palo Verde, near my house, is on its last 3 days). I hit a couple of them over the past day or two and raked in what I could find out of the remaining crap. Seriously, the stores have been completely raped of what would be considered good. VERY little metal, a lot of bad indie and emo, TONS of no name rappers. All of the CDs for bands I love were gone, but I did find a few for bands I like. The haul: Evergrey -- Monday Morning Apocalypse Fountains of Wayne -- Welcome Interstate Managers (Just for "Stacy's Mom") Scotch Greens -- Professional Strapping Young Ladd -- The New Black Nightwish -- Once Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation -- Mighty Rearranger Stephen Lynch -- Live at the El Rey Corvus Corax -- Best of... (I liked the cover) Rogue's Gallery -- Sea shanties Mon Frer -- Real Vampires Jeff Walker und Die Fluffers -- Welcome to Carcass Cuntry A bunch of random oldies and folk CDs for my parents. The total: $38. 23 Most of these were opening bands for bands I'd gone to see (Scotch Greens for Flogging Molly, Strapping Young Ladd for Fear Factory, Evergrey for Children of Bodom and Iced Earth, etc). To any of you who go, happy hunting. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-15-06 09:09 PM) |

Xeo, honey, click the guy's name who posted it. You'll see he makes all these fake metal videos.
Example: EDIT: Oh and I'd been meaning to post this since I saw it on SNL, but my friend reminded me that they also performed it at the SpikeTV awards so I figured I'd throw this in now. The Metal: The guy in the suit is the same guy who played their friend, Lee, in the movie. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-15-06 09:50 PM) |

After spending some time on other message boards, getting lost in other people's forums, I noticed how many things I hate about them:
- There could be a thread completely dedicated to the all discussions about something like "Firefly" or "Metallica" or "Whatever the hell kids talk about" and there would be about 20 other threads just started ALSO about the same topic on the first page of the forum as though anyone who wants to talk about it just starts a new thread. - Posting in a thread that hasn't been posted in for 2 days is considered bumping. - Posting simply an emoticon is considered a serious addition to a conversation no matter how irrelevant the emoticon is. Example: Person 1 writes, "My dog died, I'm so sad." Person 2 posts, " ![]() - People are so concerned with post count, they don't read the previous posts in a thread, or even the first one, but only post their idiotic views on the title. Say a person posts a thread asking about the main plot points in the Star Wars Attack of the Clones cartoon, you get this disjointed conversation from everyone in the thread just raving about what they think about Star Wars, not addressing any of the questions or the fact that the topic isn't even about the movies. - In an effort to get their threads seen, people consistently double post " *Bump!* " and this isn't frowned upon by any mods on duty. - A lot more attention goes into what people write in their signatures than what they write in the content area. And people include little messages about that all go, "If you agree, post this in your signature" and people do it as though by doing so "Harry Potter will take over the world" and "Bush will eat a dick." - Oh and the ever-moronic not spelling anything out. Hw r u? I r teh awsum. When I remember more, I'll post them, but for now this about covers the surface of some of the nonsense I've been skimming through lately. Originally posted by ShuyinOriginally posted by RogueOriginally posted by Gredius Oh god... the endless posts that simply read, "POST FOR GOLD!" I mean, how disrespectful is that? "I'm not even going to bother reading what this thread is about, I just want the initial 50 gold for posting. I didn't start this new avatar to collect all the daily gold and daily chance items, to donate to my main avatar, just to read what people actually took the time to write and make conversation." Gaia, while being an amusing game from time to time, attracts an ungodly amount of preteens who all think that because they're online and mommy and daddy aren't watching, they can say all sorts of things about themselves that just make anyone over 18 groan in frustration. Haha. When Inara was hosting this senator or councilor or something of that nature and Kaylee was excitedly wanting to see what "he" looked like and Jayne stood by to get a look too, and it turned out to be a woman, Jayne got all excited by the thought of Inara and woman having lesbian sex (or even just the thought of two women altogether) and simply said, "I'll be in my bunk."
Later when Inara was bidding the other woman good-bye and they were being all sweet with each other and Jayne saw this, he turned and said again that he'd be in his bunk, but then Wash and Zoe, having a newer understanding of each other after what had happened to Wash and Mal in that episode said that they would be in their bunk. EDIT: Had to fix a typo. EDIT 2: I suddenly realized the Saffron question was still open. She was called "Yolanda" by the guy who had the antique gun that the crew of Serenity stole. To Monty, she was Bridget and later in the episode Mal jokingly calls her YoSaffBridge. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-19-06 03:20 AM) |

I'd thought about buying one of the Borg Captain Picard figures they had for sale the day before (since there were SOOOO MANY of them), and the next day all that was left were the highly unpopular Governor Worf dolls. Weird. Oddly enough the website's still going, as though they aren't closing. Maybe they're going completely online? |

Does anyone really play solitaire on the computer anymore? I recently played Freecell when the Internet was out, for the first time in over 2 years and it was strange. Like I was using a dead technology.
I do play with real cards (not often, though I do carry a deck in my bag), but it's mostly for playing poker and other games with people when we're bored. |

I also vote Jones, but I swear you were never into that before, Xeo. ![]() I used to vote Mountain Dew on everything, but I'm trying to cut back on that. Vault... while it's pretty much just Surge from the days of old, doesn't really cut it for me. Bought a case of it the other day while my boyfriend and I were working all night on our take home finals and it really wasn't doing much to keep either of us awake (but then I operate on will alone most of the time). While I dislike energy drinks, I still prefer the taste of Dew when it comes to the high caffeine sodas. Jones, though, for high sugar sodas (as though there was much of a difference). |

Yeah, the flying was just them jumping up in the air while the person shooting this quickly takes the picture.
I'm amazed when it looks like they're phasing through things. It looks tricky. Seriously, though, this takes A LOT of time and I can't imagine how much planning. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-21-06 02:58 PM) |
