Broken Sword said that any attempt to assassinate the emperor would be stopped by him, but his lover, Flying Snow, agreed to help Nameless. Flying Snow then proceeded to duel with Broken Sword. While Nameless interferred, Broken Sword was wounded, thus causing Moon to enter and attempt her hand at fighting Nameless, unsuccessfully. Following Nameless' fight with Flying Snow in front of the emperor's troops, Broken Sword finally revealed his reason in not killing the emperor 3 years prior while he and Flying Snow stormed the emperor's palace. Calligraphy brought Broken Sword to understanding a greater purpose and reason to everything as it was an art from his soul. So, Broken Sword simply wrote out the "All Under Heaven" in the sand to explain to Nameless in a silent way what the emperor was needed for. To unite the kingdoms. Broken Sword then told Moon to give his sword over to Nameless.
