January 10, 2007 - Konami's support for both the PS3 and Wii appears to have taken a major hit. The release list in the latest issue of Famitsu reveals reveals that a number of next generation titles previously announced by the company are no longer in development.

# Gradius Series (PS3)
# Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)
# New Action Game (PS3)
# New Role Playing Game (PS3)
# New Action Adventure Game 2 (Wii)
# Role Playing Game (Wii)

SUCKS...

It is overrated to the point of ridiculousness... It's so freaking generic... The final bosses always always suck, and it's lame, in general.

I'd take any Doujin Shooter over it, any day of the week.

It would seem that someone attacked Konami's weak point for massive damage. But I never knew that Konami was, in fact, a giant crab.

Ahem. Now then.

Far as I can tell there's a few ways to look at it: moving away from PS3, moving toward 360, short on cash, and probably some others I can't quite see at nearly 3 AM.

However, only two of those listed are actually named, both on PS3. What about the other four games? How much had even gone into those?

Well, they must have gotten as far as the genre.

You sir, have declared war, prepare for battle. Everything you've pointed out about Gradius, sounds like you've never played a game in the series. Gradius easy? That right there tells me you've never played the arcade versions (if any versions), Gradius 3 arcade is a beast, try finishing that one in one sitting sometime. Another one for you to try is Nemesis 90 Kai for the X68000 (yes it's easy to emulate), try beating that one and call it easy, you won't. The only truly easy one to beat is Salamander 2, due to being able to continue from where you died, but once you get to loop 2 all bets are off as continues go out the window. And how is Gradius overrated anyway, it's a niche market, the shmup fandom is, and generic? Give me a break. Hate to rant but as a fan of the series, I felt I had to defend Gradius, my two cents is all.

In other news, why Konami did this, I don't know I doubt they are in any financial troubles. If it were PS3 games only I'd understand as that system hasn't hit a wide enough range of people yet to risk putting out too many titles for it, but when games for the Wii were cancelled as well, that raised a red flag for me. Could Konami be in financial troubles?

Shaddow, that's because you're a Japanophile. It's ok. The first step is admitting you have a problem.
The only Gradius games I've played were the first one on NES,and Gradius III (which I own) for the SNES.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Bloodreign came in here.

Anyways folks, it turns out this was just a confusion. All of these games have just been set to a "TBA release". Here's the fix:

Earlier reports of a massive wave of cancellations over at Konami's next generation game farm were, it seems, erroneous. Next generation Gradius and new generation New Action Adventure Game 2 live!

For those wondering what in the world of mistaken triologies is going on, IGN reported on Wednesday that the following Konami titles had been cancelled:

# Gradius Series (PS3)
# Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)
# New Action Game (PS3)
# New Role Playing Game (PS3)
# New Action Adventure Game 2 (Wii)
# Role Playing Game (Wii)

This report was based on a release list in the latest issue of Japan's largest games magazine, Famitsu.

Today, Famitsu issued a correction via its Famitsu.com website noting that the games have not been cancelled, but instead have a TBA release date, just as they always have.

For the record, because we're sure you're wondering, there is a "New Action Adventure Game 1" in development for the Wii. We expect it to precede the release of New Action Adventure Game 2, although it too has a TBA date.

(and yeah Shaddow, you should try out Gradius III arcade. Its terribly hard, especially on a keyboard).

To Clockworkz: Lol, Gardevoir?

To Everyone Else: *sighs* Gradius 3 isn't the most difficult space shooter out there... ... I've beaten the arcade version with one credit...

The keyboard is much more precise than the crappy-ass joysticks at the arcade. x_X "Lol I don't move diagonal" is what my arcades are like...

Oh and ignoring difficulty for a moment, I like Parodous better than Gradius 3. It was at least funny enough to break up the monotonous "everything points at you, except volcanoes" syndrome... I do not CARE about difficulty... T_T I mean if it's "Lol Easy!" then I probably wont feel challenged, but in my personal oppinion, it's all about the bullet patterns.

Did Gradius 3 even HAVE bullet patterns!?

T_T

....

and then this is the Touhou game's boss battle (fast-forwards through non-boss areas).

To continue on with my yelling at you... I do not CARE how old Gradius is... Pong isn't that great either.

*shakes head and waits for you to counter me with some point about Touhou's lack of proper stages, so I can bring up Ikaruga as another superior space shooter*

Have you really played the arcade version of Gradius III though? Its completely different from the SNES one. The video you posted is from the SNES version. I've beaten that myself without dying.

You have to admit, the music is amazing. Especially Gaiden.

The SNES Gradius 3 was toned down a lot, mainly to remove the 3-D stage, and to balance out the difficulty (also have to mention the Cube Rush, there's no pattern to that, basically you have to build a safe spot to hide, or do like one Gradius expert named tviks did, manage to go max speed, and still have every damned cube miss you). Stage 9 itself is a beat to get past in the arcade version, what with those damned lasers you have to slide between, along with tons of enemies shooting to take you down.

The SNES Arcade difficulty in Gradius 3 is a joke compared to the actual arcade version of Gradius 3, it's like night and day (remembers back in the day he too once beat Gradius 3 in one credit, but on normal mode, plus I believe I was around 17 when I did it, 1992 I believe.)

And later loops in the arcade Gradius titles jack up the difficulty, with more eneimes, more bullets, and when you destroy a boss, they let out suicide bullets, Gradius V is notorious for sending monstrous waves of suicide bullets after bosses die in later loops.

Gaiden is so amazing I've: a) burned the ISO, b) bought the original game itself, original print, and c) bought Gradius Collection on PSP, for a whopping 3 versions of Gradius Gaiden, even if the burn is a PSX copy, and the real thing is also a PSX version.

Wanna know an overrated shmup or two, Ikuraga, and Radiant Silvergun, RS I've had the chance to play, wasn't my cup of tea, and Ikuraga is probably the most mentioned amongst casual shmup players.

And you call bullet patterns in a doujin something, try DonPachi, and DoDonPachi, hell anything by Cave, and you'll see where these doujins draw their inspiration from.

As for Parodius, absolutely love it, not only for it's gameplay, but it's wacky humor, and poking fun at not only Gradius, but other Konami titles as well, not to mention pop culture.

T_T I didn't find a video of anybody doing anything amazing in the Arcade version...

I'll be looking into Donpachi.

Anyways, bullet hell, tight weaving, the beautiful patterns... These are what I consider aspects of a good shooting game. Gradius's lack of patterns kills it for me... It's nothing but "LOL-REFLEX LASORS" with no sense of grace...

But hey, feel free to keep telling me what you think my oppinion is.
