| Well, I don't think people really get the case. She isn't suing for flaming, she is suing for slander. This person was attacking her reputation, saying things that she had no evidence for these claims. It is pure and simple slander.

| It's called Defamation of Character, and it is a big no-no. It basically stops, or helps combat those who sue for false charges. For example, a man is charged with raping a woman he didn't. He's found not guilty. The man now has an oppourtunity to counter-sue the woman for defamation of character, because he has had to deal with social exile on account of the charges brought against him, and it is difficult for him to get back into the world. Especially if he's a doctor charged for groping a patient while they're under anesthesia.
Though this is not nearly as extreme, it should not have been taken lightly. But then again, it shouldn't have been an 11 million dollar lawsuit. |
