What the hell is up with these anime openings that have either been dubbed or redone for the American market? It's like they either make them these really cheesy rap songs or poorly done pop songs.

I'm stuck watching the WB right now and it's their so-called anime line-up. I haven't watched Saturday morning cartoons in recent years because most of the shows suck, but now it's like they're bringing in all sorts of anime that seem like they shouldn't have seen the light of American television.

Right now it's on Spider Riders. It had a really crappy opening that was on par with the Pokemon rap.

I would much prefer it if U.S. providers actually put out the Japanese openings, but with things like Inuyasha they don't even bother showing the opening.

Anyone have an opinion about these?

We all know the American market is dumb, and there to capitalize. They're gonna butcher crap because everything is overseen by no-nothing executives, and not any real visionaries that would like to preserve the beauty of the original. I'm not surprised when American television destroys anything.

The only reason America has a vendetta against anime is because Japan's making all the money off of it. That's all there is to it. But America wants some credit and so they become pompasses and say "Hey we'll show your cartoons to all the little kids in a America, buuuut you're going to have to let us play with the sounds. We'll even throw in some sucky voice actors as well."

edit: what really should be discussed is the fact that 4kids totally dropped 33 episodes of Onepiece from the earth. they were cut, gone, never aired. in addition to the missing 33 eps, other episodes were sliced and pieced together.

i think you pretty much answered most of your complaints =/

first... WB, CN blah blah blah... kids shows =/ cheesy, why? because it's made for kids. it would make no sense to make a line-up for kids on an american channel to have the origional Japanese song.

second, if it were to be redubbed, most likely, the lyrics would make no sense whatsoever. it would be somewhat hard to try and do that. it is much easier to make up your own crap, and like others said, give yourself credit, or newcomers credit.

third... from what i noticed, the newier licensed animes on DVD still have the origional stuff.

4th, the only people who prefers the origional are those who are already into the show or anime in general. the real purpose executives want is to attractive newier fans. you cannot attract new fans by alienating them with japanese stuff that they wouldnt understand. so butchering it or changing it may be a turn off for loyal fans, but the point being is that they're already fans, it's not like they'll buy anything because they've already got it. you need new fans, so you want it to appeal to a more wider spectrum of potential viewers, not attract the same who have already seen it.

**blinks** Wow...

I mean, yeah, I hate they way they butcher the stuff too...but...I totally agree with Avatar here....I only care because I'm already into it. When I was a kid...hell, Sailor Moon was on WB when I was in like kindergarten...and I didn't give a shit that they didn't have the original opening/endings, I just liked the show...same thing with Pokemon when I was into it...

However, Adult Swim butchering things....I would have to be a bit more critical on that I would have to say, than with WB, or Toonami or something. **shrugs**

hey! I like One Piece's opening thank you very much!

I think by far the worst opening ever would have to be....Naruto...

And FMA...

This brings to mind the boring American theme songs they had for Dragonball Z, the Japanese theme, 'We Gotta Power', was so much better . I don't think too many anime openings are very good nowadays, DBGT has probably the worst opening for any show ever.

FMA's opening, at least the first season, was great. Are you talking about the songs later on in the series?

Dude Dan Dan rocks the old school ways. Ranma's got some good opening songs too. Old School openings may be gay but the somehow rock.

WHAT?! we gotta power is better than the hard rock american song? that's a pick-me-up song when the american DBZ theme comes on... i think the japanese DBZ songs were lame -.-'

i dunno, some japanese openings need to be changed. but i do like how Yuu Yuu Hakusho did an actual almost word for word translation, and the singer was kinda the same sounding as the japanese, so kudos to them
