| It took a lot of time for it to slap her face,
Something that she didn't see until that day, “I'm going to graduate” she said “But I'm scared” Taking that first step is always hard So she found a night for her ask for some Velcro. Her mom pushed her off and put her away, It was hard for her to really ask why So she got her dad to spend her dues and she found it hard to do anything Yet she feels she's been left out by her parents “I'm going to graduate” she said “But I'm scared.” She learned that things were hard again, Keeping her grades up wasn't all that easy in the first place, So she took the tears and wiped her face “I'm going to graduate” she said “But I'm scared” Her dad kept a “I don't care” attitude on how things went But in her eyes he really did. She could sense that when she leaves she will be missed, By her mother, brother, sister, but most of all Her father. She may have made her parents mad, But that only makes it so their pride increases “Look at the child we've raised” Her father said, “Such a beautiful sight.” They said to her she's one of a kind She's going to do make it if she puts her self to it. A 2nd Lt. In JROTC... In AFROTC she'll be a Captain. She knew she was going to do her best. Beat her sister to that paper, Called a diploma. But one thing held her back. “I'm going to graduate” She said “But I'm scared.” The rappel trip did help a little. She faced heights over 100 feet. But she didn't really and truly understand How high confidence really is. How could she have not noticed, Such a whimsical thing to slap her face. She knew when she walked that aisle, Across her parents face would be a smile. At the pace she kept going. She would catch that confidence in no time. Most of all this was to be. Something that her family would see. Their little daughter graduate And leave that nest. Just between you and me. She's going to be the best of all. She'll learn as much as she can in College. Maybe even marry someone afterwards. I see a bright future for her. All she's got to do is take that first step. After all she learned that she can say no. Why not learn to take initiative? If there isn't anything she can't do. She can grow up in her parents eyes. She learns that being the best is what her parents see. She is the one who will persevere. She started off as a clumsy fool. Now look at her. A Velcro child of 18. But most of all she learned how to let go. “I'm that girl in cap and gown.” She said “I'm the one with the brave and wits to prevail.” |
