From what I've heard according to Wikipedia, and other magazine articles, the PS3 will not be compatible with PS1 and PS2 memory cards. There's apparently no slots, only slots for the new PS3 "memory sticks".

Honestly, it wouldnt' surprise me if down the road we see 3rd Party Adapters for this, which I'm hoping for, other wise honestly the backward compatibility feature almost seems a little worthless.

This makes me mad, because there's a few games for the PS2 that my PS2 just won't read, so I just can't finish them. I was looking forward to being able to play and beat these games on the PS3, but doesn't seem like I'd be able too. So, I just might pick up a new Slim Model PS2 or something ...

You wanna know the funny thing about the slim model there xeo? If you use a memory card that you used for the regular PS2 into the slim model to use the save data it wont work... You have to format the memory card to save and all of that good stuff..

Perhaps the PS3 Memory Sticks will be compatible with PS1 and PS2 savedata, and so they don't feel that the compatibility with the cards is needed...

Of course, that still cheats me out of my FFT saves...even if what I said IS true. It's just speculation, though.

Hey Xeo, stop by a local FYE store (or any other gaming store) and ask if you can get a memory card transfer block. Basically, it transfers your saved data to your comp for a backup, or onto other memory cards. Maybe Sony is going to force people to buy that to transfer their data onto the new memory cards, but I dunno. At my local FYE, it was 49.99, so its not to expensive.

Well of course the PS1 wont read the PS2 memory cards, you couldn't save any PS1 games on the PS2 memory card. But with the PS3 deal, If it isnt compatible, then maybe they will develop something that will make it compatible. I mean PS3 is still months away from actually hitting the shelves, Who really knows what surprises they will have on the final system. I say lets just wait and see what happens..

Take it from me. I had to go and buy a slim PS2 model because my regular PS2's power supply shorted out. I continued playing my game on it. The memory cards work just fine. Xenosaga II, Ratchet and Clank, Contra, Extreme G 3, Time Splitters. They all work. No defects or anything in the slightest. I don't know where you got your information, but you can go tell your source to check his brain. It also works with PS1 memory cards.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet Sony's going to pull a stunt that'll make you have buy somekind of adapter to use save files on PS2 memory cards. Money huggers...

He meant - and said - PS1 GAMES. That is, you can't save FFT data to a PS2 memory card, even on a PS2. This renders the last part of your paragraph pointless and the first part unneeded and somewhat obvious extra info.

Ill clear the memory card part of this up...the memory card for the Ps3 is fully backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 which means you can save your Ps1 and2 game on the Ps3 memory card. it kinda sucks that you have to start all over but big deal get over it it just makes you appreciate the game more.

Well, I certainly don't have a problem with it. At least not now. I'd simply finish my game on the PS2 start new ones on the PS3.
