Fear will kill your mind and steal your love as sure as anything;
Fear will rob you blind and make you numb to others suffering

Well, the helicopter crash in Afghanistan recently? Mom got worried that Dad was on it. After all, it crashed near where he was stationed. I was sitting in the living room, playing Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 on my small TV when mom just started crying. This made me think 'wait a second, no one even said he was involved,' so I got up, gave her a hug to try to get her to calm down, and went back to playing my game.
Ah, and don't worry, he was fine. We found out later that day.

A year or so ago, there was a tornado near where we lived. Mom was running around panicking, dad was even more irritable than normal, and we didn't live with grandma at the time. Me? I was calm; I packed a bag, grabbed my gameboy, had my shoes on, and was out the door in ~5 minutes - not scared, just quick.

3 years ago, at school, we were told a tornado touched down nearby, and we were all rushed to the basement. I sat down with my legs crossed and my forehead to the ground (we were told to keep our heads down, after all), thinking about what I'd do when I got home. On the way back in, the only thing keeping me from being completely calm was the fact I was soaked from the rain.

So here's the thing. I remain calm when bad things happen (tornadoes, hurricanes, death), yet I get irritated/angry/upset over stupid shit (difficulty in videogames, for example). Is this unusual? Is it something to be concerned about? I doubt it's that bad, but...

NOpe, just means that you've been desensitized by everything, and just have the wonderful numbness associated with being submerged into an eternal misery. It'll pass.

Oddly enough, I share in the same. People may call me heartless and uncaring, but the sick fact is that I don't care. If its not happening in a way that impacts the planet as a whole utopian Sim City society, I just don't care.

I have peeps overseas doing stuff as well, but I don't let it affect me at all. But, if my memory starts to mysteriously destroy data, I throw a fit. Eh, priorities, I guess.

I'm the opposite of the last paragraph, (meaning I get worried about the slightest things involving danger of a loved one or the death of one, and such, and don't give a shit how many times my Dante got kicked around by Vergil's god damn Devil Trigger form (100 fuggin' Helm Breakers!! GAH!!! ) before I figured out the trick (about 10, for the record)) but at the same time you're not unusual at all... Like Zabuza said, you were just desensitized (or something...) by whatever misery is around you (if any) (although I've been surrounded by a bit of misery, and death never ceases to frighten, or make me cry.) and it probably wont pass, but simply stay with you forever. It's the awareness of it, and the questioning of the way you are, that will probably pass.

Tamarin its not strange, I'm the same way. I get upset over stupid shit and am calm as hell in wierd circumstances. It is...strange. After all, it might be the videogames doing it to us, so Videogames are good, not bad, they help people stay calm in difficult circumstances, because they have already experienced similar circumstances in simulations. I've played sim city for hours at a time, every day when I was younger. I dn't think I could over-react in those disasters...

Really everybody has their own unique way to act during times of unease or crisis, I usually remain calm and immedatly take control, you remain calm and simply do the right thing. We all also have to have an equal reaction to contradic this calm, you it being get upset over video games, while mine is getting overly upset with a misplaced object in my room or car. So it's really not strange at all it's just how your mind reacts the the enviorment and situations your put in.

Like Zabuza said, not weird, just desensitized. It seems that you've learned to accept death and disaster as a unavoidable thing and choose to deal with it rather than panic. That can be a very useful thing in life.

I've been known to do that sometimes. Major disaster hits and I don't care, I lose at a game and I'm screaming my head off. Friend has problem and I am calm and rational, doing my best to help; yet I get into the same situation and I don't listen to my own advice. It's funny really.

You're a bit stoical, that's all. I've noticed i've become the same way. Things like a death in the family, or an event like being stuck in an elevator don't really cause me much grief or anxiety.

Some say its a phase, others say that its how your personality will shape.
