Four years now since I've held onto a Dream of mine. This dream of mine will never come true, and it was futile of me to even dream of it.

Should I just give up this Futile Dream? It'll never come true, that much I've known.

Having something to dream about wether or not it's possible is sometimes all you need to keep on going. Never give up on dreams, they're what make us human. Dreams come and go. Dreams can change too. Whatever your dream is, hold on to it. Change to a new dream if you have to, just keep on having a dream kay?

I believe you are missing the point. The whole point of this is whether he should stick with the dream he's got right now.

I'm just going to be very simple and blunt. Give it up. Everytime I hear that bullshit about how your dream will come true one day if you always hold on to it, I want to punch the person who said it. That's complete bullshit. Sometimes, people have to wake up to reality. And the harsh truth of reality is that nothing happens the way you want it to. You say you have a dream that you know will never come true? Well, give it up. Its not worth your time anymore. Move onto something else.

Dreamers get nothing done. Only those who take action will accomplish something in their lives. A dream is just a dream, nothing more. Move on to another dream if it makes you feel better. It's pointless to stick with a dream you understand to be futile. Why waste your time on something that won't work when you could be spending time with something that could?

Well, I don't know what this dream is, so I'm not 100% on my vote, but I say that if it is indeed futile then it is best to let it go so that it will no longer drag you down.

I'm not too sure how realistic your dream is, so I can not answer as well. And despite what Sparda said, my dream was to be a recognized photographer, and guess what? I'll be attending the best school of photography in the U.S. next year.

My Dream:

Spoiler:
I'm in love with an Engaged Women. I've wanted to be with her, but she could never see me past being a 'brother' to her. And this has been going on for nearly 4 years.

Thus I ask, if I should just give it up or not.

Ah, I figured that was it.

Yeah, let it go. I know it hurts, but it's better to let it go.

I'm usually the last person to tell somebody to give up on something, but I guess I have to this time...

when you think about it, I am the last person posting, telling you to give it up... so I guess I am the last person to tell you to give up eh?

everyone is so negative on this board, I say stick to it.

Futile is a word invented to hold people back, If it was truley a futile dream then your mind wouldnt have let you have dreamed about it for 4 years now. At any moment in time your mind could just drop this idea if it was at all anyway impossible to come true as a safety factor so you wont wind up hurting yourself. And if you give up on her consider the regret you'll hold for the rest of your life.

I dont believe Dreams get you nothing, while direct action brings you everything. Thats only distrusting your mind a true dreamer could over come any obstical thrown at him to accomplish his/her goals. Time is just a limit on imagination and wasting time truley does not exist while the coulds and couldnts are societys words of limiting your expectations and dreams.

But if you really believe that a dream cant come true then well buddy it wont, doubting yourself is only creating more limitations to hold you down.

A dream is something that will always be on your mind even though you might have given up on it. It doesnt mean it will never happen, we live in a world that anything can happen at any given moment. Time could be your friend in this situation, so I say do not give it up, but lay low on it, until the time is right to realize the dream again.

i dunno if someone already said this (tis late at night, and after this post, im leaving, and i dont wanna read what others have said. yeah, im a jerk -.-') anyways.... dreams are dreams. if you ever accomplish it, then it's not a dream, but rather a goal. so go forth and dream, but if you are truly serious about something, call it a goal.

I concur with Sparda to a point. Yes, dreams are pointless if that's all they're ever going to be. However, some dreams are impossible to accomplish at a certain time, such as dreams of careers or something. Like Sparda said, things don't always happen the way you want them, but sometimes a dream can help you not to make a stupid decision to prevent you from getting at least somewhere, if that makes any sense. So basically I'm agreeing with Avatar as well. Dream it up, get into it, and then turn it into a goal. But I do think that certain things need to be a dream in order to become a goal.

As far as this dream is concerned...I say that you should try and find that happy medium Kai. It's hard to find, but possible. Don't rely on it to the point that it's making you depressed, but don't exactly just give up to the point that it makes you depressed. Only because sometimes when you give up totally on one thing, it can have a chain reaction and make you give up on a lot of other things as well, due to the depression. It's hard finding the happy medium when it's something that you truly want or believe in, but that is something that you maybe can focus on instead? That way, whatever happens happens, and you can get through it and deal with it no matter what is thrown at you. If maybe sometime it happens the way you'd like it, then great! If not, then you'll be okay.

If any of that makes any sense, then it should harm any more to try it.

Hold onto it. Although I am not in the popular side of the vote, I think you should hold onto whatever this dream is. If you know it will never happen, but you like to think it will happen someday, then hold onto it. It will be worth it in the long run. This dream, just thinking about it, might force you to do better in situations that are tough. To hopefully prove yourself worthy of your dream. Just try your best to keep it, and try your best to fulfill it, you life will be much more satisfying that way.

Kaijin you have already stated it is futile why bring yourself down with this dream. You already say its futile to bother with it Give it up...If you dont you are probably just hurting yourself in the long run. Plus there will always be someone in this planet for you Kaijin. Stay friends talk to her but just give it up.

I hate saying this cause i really think if you set up a goal or something you really want you should stick with it but under the circmestances just give it up.

He already stated what his 'dream' is.

I don't know why your dream is considered a spoiler. But i'll respond to it as such.

Spoiler:By keeping this dream you're only hurting yourself. Don't let foolish fairy tale thoughts cloud your judgement. All the "Follow your dream" BS doesn't apply here. By keeping your infatuation with her, you're only stunting your relationship. I'm sure she's a happy women, being engaged and all. Be happy for her, and let her go. You're only 17. You have plenty of time to persue another.

Just wanted to point out, Shuyin, that there is a major diffrence between love, and infatuation. So yes, that insulted me to a degree, though I agree to an extent...

I'm letting this dream go. This may hurt her, but just being around her will hurt even more. Its harder to stay friends with her then to just end it all at once.

And didn't I once told you, Kaijin:

Love and fear can't exist together. If we must choose from one another, it would be best to be feared than to love.

Now your probably will not relize it, but if you desire love so much, you will eventually break down once something else take place. Look at you! You are about 17 years old, looking at a engaged woman and hoping to developing a better relationship... If she is completely engaged, she must be happy with her husband then. Otherwise, she might get a divorce paper, divorce his husband, wait few years until both of you get married...

True, hold on your dreams speech doesn't effect much. (Don't get me wrong people, I alway have two side of being in point of argument.) But it is just as Avatar said, if you want to set a reasonable dream, make it your goals... Don't get everyone involve that could force against their will.

And Shuyin, didn't Marter Luther King Jr. just gave out his "I have a dream" speech so he would give the black more respect and freedom? Saying that pretty much counter your statement. (And for some reasons, mine too. O_o)

*Scream in native language and then afterward, slap himself.*

Then you could just say that (I screwed up on the Engaged part but the age part will work)! How long she got until she is married?

Plus, what if you got some information like her soon-to-be husband die or just found out that she was eager to be with you before the wedding starts? (Sorry, this just change my whole point of views.) Or try to fake something and make yourself look more heroic or show that you need someone as caring as her...

But the point is... think about it. If she getting married, then there is alot of reasons why she is getting married. Don't mess with someone's else chance. Give yourself another chance to see someone you really like or someone who may have the same feeling for you. You can't expect to get everything, right Kaijin? Just give it a time to think and feel what you think it is the best for you and for her.
