| I laid there in bed, staring up at the black ceiling, tears streaming down my face, wondering why I hated my life so much. I still heard them screaming... I wished that they would shut up and let me sleep. I had tried to distract myself by staring at the beam of moonlight that hit the west wall of my bedroom... but the faeries didn't even help me this time. Yes, I see faeries in the moonlight, little faeries dancing around, their silver wings tinkling like little bells. They had always distracted me from the fighting when I was younger, and they usually still did, but not now.
I had one escape left to me... one that I didn't use anymore because I had promised, but at the moment I didn't care. I opened my drawer in the dresser next to my bed and pulled out my little silver dagger. I heard the yelling get louder... I just wanted them to stop. I brought the razor sharp blade up to my wrists, looking at the edge in the silver light. Slowly I pressed down until I felt it bite into the flesh, quickly I jerked the dagger across the skin, rending the muscle tissue and blood vessels as I from the wrist to the crook of the elbow. The pain was blinding, but at that moment I forgot everything else... all the yelling, the abuse, nothing was left but the stinging of the cut in my skin. The sharp hiss that had escaped my lips as I cut myself turned into a moan of masochistic pleasure. I took the knife in my other, now blood-soaked, hand and repeated the process with my other arm. A small puddle of blood was forming on my bed and growing larger... I was loosing a lot of blood... too much. I realized that I must have cut too deep this time, must have severed too many veins and arteries. Most people would have freaked out, but I was calm. I could feel the numbness taking me. I stared again at the dancing faeries in the moonlight, they were still dancing; but now it was slower, more melancholy. They seemed to be mourning me already. Things started dimming into blackness, leaving only the tinkling of silver wings. I laid back down into the bloodstained bed with a smile and welcomed the eternal slumber as it took me.
