| So they started excavating one of the heads on Easter Island and discovered the heads are just the tip of the iceberg, topping full bodies that are mostly buried below ground.

| Right? It makes me wonder if there's whole villages and other signs of civilization buried from centuries of soil deposition.
And yeah, why did it take them 'til only now to finally try to dig these up. I guess, because we'd rather preserve them where are and speculate about aliens putting them there than trying to figure it out? |

| I figured that they were down in the ground quite a ways to prevent them from falling over, but I definitely wasn't expecting bodies. Kind of a nifty surprise. |
